I working on the app where I get the data from the server using rest call and add it to the view. I get all the initial data correctly. I use AsyncTask for doing it. Now I want to periodically (say 2 mins) fetch the new data from the server and add it to view.Periodically fetching data (polling) from the server in Android.

How I'm able to do what I've written in the topic. I've looked through many tutorials on AsyncTask but I can't get it to work. I have a little form (EditText) that will take what the user inputs there and make it to a url query for the application to lookup and then display the results.
What I think would seem to work is something like this: In my main activity i have a string called responseBody. Then the user clicks on the search button it will go to my search function and from there call the GrabUrl method with the url which will start the asyncdata and when that process is finished the onPostExecute method will use the function activity.this.setResponseBody(content).
This is what my code looks like simpliefied with the most important parts (I think).

I have my email settings to retrieve every 5 minutes, sometimes when I reply to a email I get the unable to send mail then I check the account settings and it says unable to communicate with the driod outoutgoing server, I restart my phone then it will work but this is not a solution long term. Sprint has restarted my phone too.

device and when application receive response from server app will dismiss the dialog or bar and will show data .
For this i am using AsyncTask -

But ProgressDialog is not shown.(I guess the reason for it is the thread is not complete and android invalidate only when thread has completed).
My Questions-
1- If my guess is right ? If yes then how I should implement it?
2- If there is any other better way to do this?

The Facebook app on my Desire doesn't seem to be working. A couple of days ago I couldn't refresh the "Notifications" page, it gave me a brief message about an error. Now I'm getting the same message on the News Feed page
"An error had occurred while fetching data. [101/Invalid API Key]". I'm on T-Mobile, if that helps.

I went into Weather Bug (free version) to check the weather and accidentally hit the menu button. Decide to check preferences for the heck of it and I see "Enable Updates' set to yes and Update Interval set to every 1 hour. What?? I know it's probably not a huge drain - but I had no idea that it was checking on a regular basis (and why I don't know). So please check your apps to make sure they are not updating data auotmatically! After that I went into every app I had to make sure I was either signed out or or set updates to manual.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have successfully been getting GPS data through the registerLocationListener() and onLocationChanged() methods. The only problem with this is that the speed reading of my app freezes if there is no more GPS data (e.g. when I go indoors, enter a tunnel, etc). The behavior I want for my app is that the user is somehow notified that the speed reading is probably not accurate due to a lack of fresh data (set speed to zero, blink the speed reading, etc). How can I do that? I though of checking periodically whether the GPS unit was detecting any satellites, but I'm not sure how to force periodic checks.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running a Web service that allows users to record their trips (kind of like Google's MyTracks) as part of a larger app. The thing is that it is easy to pass data, including coords and other items, to the server when a user starts a trip or ends it. Being a newbie, I am not sure how to set up a background service that sends the location updates once every (pre-determined) period (min 3 minutes, max 1 hr) until the user flags the end of the trip, or until a preset amount of time elapses.
Once the trip is started from the phone, the server responds with a polling period for the phone to use as the interval between updates. This part works, in that I can display the response on the phone, and my server registers the user's action. Similarly, the trip is closed server-side upon the close trip request.........
Finally got Velocity installed and setup the way I like it. It's a tremendous improvement in overall performance compared to the stock. Kudos to Trident for taking the time to put this together for all of us. I only have one problem with it that I hope I can do something about or I may end up back on the stock ROM. Velocity comes with the latest Google maps version, which I hate because you can't clear the data so over time the app builds up more and more used space. Since I use the Google Maps Navigation pretty much everyday for work, that's going to be a small problem. Does anyone know if there is an app out there that allows you to clear the map data periodically? Or is there a way I can push the stock Map app into Velocity and do what I did before and simply ignore the update notices? I know I can just keep uninstalling it and reinstalling it periodically and i may end up doing that if there is no way to clear the data because I would really like to keep Velocity. I hope this doesn't come across as a knock on Velocity because it's not meant to be. I think it's a tremendous upgrade to the Ally and if it wasn't for my unique situation of using Google Maps so much, I wouldn't even be asking.

So it looks like mobile phones these days are capable of providing gps data ;) I'm building a django app with a mobile edition that I want to be location aware. My question is, how does one access GPS data? Is there a standard, or do you have to custom code for android/iphone/other. Ideally, I'd imagine it being provided in the HTTP request in the same way you get information such as the IP Address and User Agent.

In my application I am sending data to server if I had not pressed back button when data is sending to server then data is successfully saved on server and new screen (one created in layout folder) is displayed which says data is stored. But at the time of sending data if i pressed back button then also data successfully saved on server but I can't see that new screen that data is stored on server. How to handle this situation?

Looking at the traffic with wire shark it seems that on every other request something goes wrong with the ssl traffic/handshake (data doesn't even get sent except for an fc-fault coming back). Doing the same requests using curl the server always responds fine and afaik the iPhone version of the program also doesn't seem to have any problems with the server.

I want to display these English characters in Chinese language in my application. Is it default if the user selects Chinese Lang for their device or should i have to do something else.. I know how to localize images, strings that are stored in resources, but i want to localize the strings coming from internet that are stored in a single language in database.

If the administrator enters the data to the database in chinese language, will it be displayed in Chinese in my ListView?
