Android :: Using Ksoap Over HTTPs To Request Data From Server?
Feb 11, 2010
I'm using ksoap over https to request data from a server. It works fine, but only every other time! Looking at the traffic with wire shark it seems that on every other request something goes wrong with the ssl traffic/handshake (data doesn't even get sent except for an fc-fault coming back). Doing the same requests using curl the server always responds fine and afaik the iPhone version of the program also doesn't seem to have any problems with the server.

I just ran across the 'PAW Server' app and it's pretty neat so far. I don't want to use it with http though, so I enabled https and restarted the app. It doesn't work at all now. I enabled bluetooth so I could manually update the config file on the sdcard and restart the server in http mode. It instantly started working again. I've tried a couple of different ports but can't get the https mode to work at all. The docs say that it will be slower which is understandable, but since it's not working at all I have to assume that I'm doing something wrong and missing something obvious. Anyone else using the PAW Server app with https enabled?

Using appbrain on my PC seems to work fine when I'm not logged in. When I do log in and try to click on an app I get this error message:
"Error: Server Error The server encountered an error and could not complete your request. If the problem persists, please report your problem and mention this error message and the query that caused it."
Anyone else have this issue when using Appbrain on their pc?
Well, It looks like I solved the problem. I just deleted my account and created it again and it's fixed (for now).

Is there a way I can identify a handset on the server side of an HTTP request? I realize many headers are included on the request, but I am uncertain as to how the handset might be uniquely identified? Perhaps the Sim signature or some such fingerprint?

I have looked into various posts about how to retrieve something via HTTPS on Android, from a server that uses a self-signed certificate. However, none of them seem to work - they all fail to remove the "javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Not trusted server certificate" message. It is not an option to modify the server to have a trusted certificate, and it is also not an option to make the server certificate match the server's IP address. Note, that the server will not have a DNS name, it will only have an IP-address. The GET request looks something like this:
I am fully aware that this solution is prone to man-in-the-middle attacks etc. So, the solution must ignore the lack of trust in the certificate, and ignore the hostname mismatch. Does anybody know the code, that does this, using Java for Android? There are plenty of attempts to explain this on stackoverflow.com, and plenty of code snippets, but they don't seem to work, and nobody has provided one block of code that solves this, as far as I can see. It would be interesting to know if somebody really solved this, or if Android simply blocks certificates that are not trusted.

Anyone else experiencing this problem or know of a solution? I have a Digicert signed https certificate that is throwing an SSLException (Not trusted server certificate). This doesn't make any sense as Digicert is a recognized certificate authority. I can connect to my https url without a problem via IE, Firefox, and Safari so they appear to have no issue with the certificate. Here's the code I'm using. Very simple stuff......................

How could I create a ContentProvider where the data is fetch from the internet. As the data is parsed maybe allow the requesting client know the download progress and results so that they are displayed as it's downloaded. My idea is to share this data across other apps. I'm not sure if a ContentProvider would be the solution?

this Android code worked fine before, but i'm having problems for some reason. here is the request i'm trying to make: https://www.google.com/reader/api/0/token. i'm getting 400:Bad Request as a response, and i'm not sure why. isn't this the correct URL for requesting a token? the auth token is being passed as a header in all requests now, and i can request feed list, and it works just fine, so there's nothing wrong with the auth code. what gives? in addition, i can request a token in a normal browser, like Chrome, and get a token as a response body. so the request itself is not the problem. i just can't figure out what is wrong with my requests in code...

I am developing an Android app for a website. I'm trying to get some information from the website by sending a cookie using a HttpGet request. I don't know where I am going wrong with the request. I am using AsyncTask to send the request to the server. The request also uses a token which I receive when I login to the webpage. All this is clear in the code below. This is part of the process in the doInBackground() function of the Asynctask:
BufferedReader in = null;
JSONObject token = Login.getToken(); // Token received after login, used in the cookie
try {
r = token.get("session_token").toString();
} catch (JSONException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();

I have a .Net Web Service which returns a single integer value. When i call upon it from my application, no value is returned. Nothing at all really happens. I set up breakpoints and watched it's progress and it seems the problem is coming from when i get to this line:androidHttpTransport.call(SOAP_ACTION, envelope);
I have a hunch that my URL string is the problem. I've tried replacing the "localhost" in my URL string with my local and network ip with no luck. Whenever i replace the localhost with the ip in my browser i get Server Cannot Access or Unable to Connect pages. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

I'm working on an app that calls a web service, then the webservice returns an array list. My problem is I am having trouble getting the data into the ArrayList and then displaying in a ListView. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I know for a fact the web service returns an ArrayList. Everything seems to be working fine, just no data in the ListView or the ArrayList.....donned on me that the data the webservice responds with is a complex type. I really think that's where I am getting hung up, but not sure how to correct it.
I finally figured out my webservice returns a JSON Array. Now getting that over to the ArrayList and/or ListView is the challenge. I have a feeling that once this project is done, it might make for a great tutorial or example...

I write a app that'd store local data on phone as well as online, and users can modify the data on their phones with a Android client and modify the remote data stored in a server through a browser interface. The assumption is that the app would need to work offline and sync. when it's online.
One example is that you have address book data on a server and a android client.
what's the best way to keep the data synchronized and detect conflicts?
