Android :: PDF In Response To POST - Android Browsers Perform Additional GET And Save That As File

Sep 25, 2010

My Django view generates a PDF via pycairo in response to a POST (I'm not redirecting in response to the POST). When I POST using desktop browsers I can save and/or view the PDF using Adobe Reader or Document Viewer. However, when I POST via my android browsers the Adobe PDF Reader and the ThinkFree viewers both report the file as corrupted.

Looking in the logfiles on my appserver both Android browsers are sending a POST followed immediately by a GET for the same page:

CODE:.....

When I look at the file saved to the phone it is the HTML of the GET request.

Here's a skeleton of the view:

CODE:...........................

So I'm wondering what could be causing the android browsers to perform the GET?

Android :: Test Http Post Response In Emulator?

Oct 26, 2010

Let's say I want to perform a quick HTTP post to a website within my android app. If I were to set up the http client and send the post all in the onCreate method of the main screen (inside the UI thread) just for testing purposes, what would I use to quickly see what the response is to the post? I tried something quick and dirty below inside the onCreate method when the app first opens and nothing really happens, is there something more I need to do/obviously my toast idea is just bad.

HttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient();
HttpPost post = new HttpPost("http://forecast.weather.gov/zipcity.php?inputstring=04419");
HttpResponse httpResp;
try {
httpResp = httpClient.execute(post);
StatusLine status = httpResp.getStatusLine();
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), (CharSequence) status, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
} catch (ClientProtocolException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();}

Android :: Multipart File Post Fails

Jul 13, 2009

I have a class that implements a multipart file upload. The code works on every java client I've tried it on but does not work on Android, *and* it's the only HTTP request code in my Android app that doesn't play nice with my back end service. I've looked through the posts to see if other are having similar issues but so far have only found posts like this http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/msg/c4b0270153d194d9 , which are nearly the same as mine. T The symtoms I'm seeing are that the connection responseCode is "-1" & no entries show up in the Apache access or error logs. It seems as if the request is never making it off of the android platform. The code gets right through the connection writes in the debugger with no errors, but hangs on the connection read, times out and then returns with -1. Behavior is same for real phone and emulator. As I mentioned, this code is in use elsewhere and works fine.

Does anyone know of any gotchas one needs to look out for when posting a multipart file in Android? Anything about doing a POST or a POST w/ data on Android?

I'm including the code/class below so you can see what I'm up to.

Android :: MultiPart Post File Not Working On 2.1 SDK

Apr 27, 2010

I'm working on a sample application that does FileUpload using Multipart post, with Andorid 1.6 SDK the application works as expected but with 2.1 there is an issue basically the application does not execute and stays stale as soon as the upload process has started.

Basically, i use "java.net.URLConnection" for establishing connectivity with the server. Is there any changes made with the core Java API's in Android SDK 2.1 that causes this issue.

Android :: Save File To Sd Card?

Apr 22, 2010

I am trying to find the best way to save files to the phone. Basically I have an XML file on a web server that I would like to be able to save on the phone. Should I create a specific folder in my project to save to and if so how do I save the file. Or should I make it to where when you click the Save button it checks for an SD card and if there is and SD card create a folder (if one isn't already there) and save the file in the new folder or save it to the phone? If someone could explain the most efficient way of saving files for my app and how to save the file from the web server I would greatly appreciate the insight. Any tutorial links would be awesome.

Android :: Cannot Save Picture / File Not Get Written

Apr 23, 2010

I am still not able to save a picture when I send an intent asking for a photo to be taken. Here's what I am doing:
Make a URI representing the pathname
android.content.Context c = getApplicationContext();
String fname = c.getFilesDir().getAbsolutePath()+"/parked.jpg";
java.io.File file = new java.io.File( fname );
Uri fileUri = Uri.fromFile(file);
Create the Intent (don't forget the pkg name!) and start the activity

private static int TAKE_PICTURE = 22;
Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE );
intent.putExtra("com.droidstogo.boom1." + MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, fileUri);
startActivityForResult( intent, TAKE_PICTURE );
The camera activity starts, and I can take a picture, and approve it.
My onActivityResult() then gets called. But my file doesn't get written.
The URI is: file:///data/data/com.droidstogo.boom1/files/parked.jpg
I can create thumbnail OK (by not putting the extra into the Intent), and can write that file OK, and later read it back).
