Android :: Froyo 2.2 Updated - Search Button Only Limited To 3 Options
Aug 12, 2010Just updated my HTC desire to froyo. So far I am loving the chrome2phone features and the wonders of mobile hotspot. Everything seems faster in rendering and processing. Also I am using dolphin browser and its a great browser compare to our stock. 1 word - tabs. Just wanna share 1 noticeable difference that kinda made me disappointed.
Our search button.
Back in 2.1. Our search button searches everything, from people contact, internet, maps, music etc. Now the search button only limited to well even tho there are 3 options. All, Web, App. If u choose web, it searches the web. If u choose App, it goes to market app. If u choose All, it just went to the web. Now if I want to search for people contact. i have to open people app then click the search button. If I want to search something in my email, I have to open mail app then click the search button. Seriously, tho 2.2 is really impressive with the features. Losing the old search functionality is. Well I have to click twice to get to what I want...
Now 2.2 people app> search button=profit
then 2.1 search button= profit.

May 13, 2010Does anyone else wish that the Android Market had sort options? I know when I browse the Market, I can filter by paid apps vs free apps. That's part-way there... I also want to be able to sort by rating/ranking (# of stars), number of times downloaded, cost, and so on. Also, carry these sort options over to the Search. It's even worse as you have paid and free apps mixed together.

Sep 21, 2010Last night I rooted 2.2 with UnrEVOked 3.21, and I'm pleased that I have Titanium Backup and Wifi Tether. The only other two things I wanted to have were uncapped FPS, and some better battery life. In another thread, I read that you may use a different kernel without using a different ROM. I downloaded KiNgxKernel's BFS #9 and installed, and while I got the frame rate I was looking for, the operating system went in to super laggy mode. It was unusable, so I booted in to recovery and restored the stock kernel from my nandroid backup.
Does anyone have any recommendation on a kernel I can use with the stock ROM?
Also, one other question, I constantly see people advise that cache clearing is vital when changing kernels. I am only aware of Dalvik cache, and the menu option in recovery to clear that cache. I also read many posts that say clearing it is unreliable and only possible with a full wipe. Can someone clarify please?

Android :: Market Search Box Complaint
Nov 19, 2009using Droid the market search box will bring up previous search list and it drives me nuts that I can't click on one and EDIT it before it just launches.I would prefer it would put it in the box and wait for me to hit search button, giving me a chance to correct or expand on or otherwise edit the chosen previous search text.I really wish it would act like google on the computer where the results page has your search text in a box on the page allowing you to tweak it EASILY. It is hard enough to type on this thing and ANYTHING that would eliminate retyping would be GREAT.I don't see a topic for android suggestions for general improvement (as opposed to app suggestions), so I put this in here.

I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to format a link for my apps published by my company using this format. For searching by developer name, the doc says to use the following format:
market://search?q=pub:<Developer Name>
It also says it returns exact matches only. My publisher name is "Polyclef Software". I guess I'm wondering why Google can't make a market search feature that searches for substrings in the publisher's name, but aside from that, how am I supposed to format the link? Neither of the following work:
market://search?q=pub:Polyclef Software market://search?q=pub:Polyclef+Software
I've tried a number of variations now and nothing works.

Feb 3, 2010I am adding a menu option in my newest application that will allow users to view all of our other applicatiosn we've published to the market place. The problem we are having is we created a second more business like developer account, but want to let users also see all of our old apps. I know how to have the search point to one developer, i.e. pub:<developer name>, but does anyone know of a way to have it search multiple? So that when they click the button all the apps from the older developer we had along with the newer business developer we created?

For example, if first I type in the word transformers and then click it, it will search youtube or if I am on the android market/internet search for transformers. Next if I went to search for transformers 2, I start typing in the word "transformers" and right away the above word appears, but if I click on it, it goes right to the original search. Dec 19, 2009Since I've set Dolphin as my default browser, when I click on a link to search for an app in the market I get a not found error. For instance, there is a link in Documents to Go (the paid key file) that is supposed to take you to the market to download the actual Documents to Go apps when I click on that link it opens the Dolphin browser and then there is a not found error. Before I set Dolphin as the default those types of links would open the market place to the application.

May 19, 2009To pretty up the URL we have on our site a URL /get/g1. It redirects to our market.android.com/search URL, eg http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:ourappname.
However, going to that link in the G1 browser results in a 404 instead of opening the Market to our app.
Questions: 1. Is this a known issue? 2. Does the browser preprocess links on the page but not intercept them in a redirect?

Sep 24, 2010Before today, when entering a search term into the Market app, the results at the top of the search would all be exact matches of that search term against the app name. For example, type "translate" and the user will see all the apps called "translate" before the "Google Translate" result (which is by far the most downloaded translate app). Now, this no longer happens. If you type "translate" the first result is "Google Translate" (and no preference is given to exact matches).
Note: posted on this forum partly because hardly anyone reads Android Discuss, and partly because developers need to know how their apps are being prioritized in app search results).

Apr 2, 2010How is an app's position in the Android Market search results determined? Is it as mysterious and complex as Google Web search results? We obviously don't want to change any words in our app's title or description that would hurt our position.
Same question applies for not only search results, but when clicking on a Category in the Android Market. How is the order of the list determined? I would think that Google would have published some guidelines at least that could help, but I haven't found anything yet.

I can't get this to work for two word names. For instance, if I want to search for all of Google's apps on the Market, I would search for 'Google Inc.' since if you look at Google Earth, Google Sky Map, etc. those are all published by 'Google Inc.'
I've tried the following:
market://search?q=pub:Google%2BInc%2E
(equivalent of: Google+Inc.)
market://search?q=pub:Google%20Inc%2E
(equivalent of: Google Inc.)
market://search?q=pub:Google Inc.

If I search for a generic term at top it may say 5 results found, but in the search results it says to re word your search. Why won't it just tell me the 5 it found?
This is on a Sprint hero with 1.5 cupcake obviously.
