Android :: Need Gmote Server Type App To Control Home PC

Jan 29, 2010

I'm looking for an app that is like Gmote but will allow me to communicate with my computer over my 3g internet line instead of wireless. Is there anything like that? will those paid apps that allow one to control their home computer via closed network do it?

Android :: App To Control What Type Of Connection Other Apps Use

Jun 27, 2010

BB user here and the only thing holding me back from getting an Android is the fear of going over my 200MB limit on data.

I want to use my Android over 3G for emails and calendar sync. Everything else through WiFi because I am constantly connected to WiFi through my campus/home/work. Only need email on the go.

Is there a program that can control what type of data other apps use?

For instance:
Email: 3G (WiFi Preferred)
Calendar Sync: 3G (WiFi Preferred)
Contact Sync: 3G (WiFi Preferred)
Browser: WiFi Only
YouTube: Wifi Only

Or along these lines.

Does anyone have any app that comes to mind?

General :: Control PC Using Android Without Server Software?

Sep 6, 2012

I've messed with many different apps on my Android phone that, in conjunction with a server app, allow me to control my PC with my phone. I'm curious though if there is a hardware solution that does the same thing and doesn't require any server software to be installed on the PC?

Here's my idea. A dongle that's plugged into your PC and is recognized as a generic HID device. The dongle then connects to your phone via BT. Then using an app on the phone, you can now use your phone as a keyboard, mouse, or PowerPoint controller.

This would be great for times when you don't have admin rights on the PC needing controlled and wouldn't be able to install a piece of software, but you can at least hook up a mouse or keyboard and they work. I have to do a lot of PowerPoint presentations at school and would love to just simply pop a dongle into the PC and almost immediately be able to start controlling the presentation from my phone.

Android :: Able To Install File Without Adding MIME Type In Web Server

Feb 12, 2009

I kept my .apk file in my "apache" webserver at "Document root" path. This is the only file at Document Root . I had removed index.html file at this location. If I keep the index.html file then other files where not displayed if I open the URL i.e http://<ip_address> using a web browser Now from my Google phone browser I'm able to download the apk file and and install it in Google phone. Note 1: I had not done any settings to add the MIME type "application/ vnd.android.package-archive" in apache web server. Note 2: I was connecting to my webserver through WiFi. But the same apk file I was not able to download from my Gmail (as attachment) and I got "unknown file type" error in this case. After reading few related topics, I came to know about the MIME type support required in webserver for android applications. Now I'm wondering how come file gets installed sucessfully from my apache webserver even without adding the MIME type "application/ vnd.android.package-archive". Any clues what's happening here?

Do I implement a more lenient ServerManagedPolicy by twiddling with these settings and associated preferences in ProcessServerRequest? My app operates fine in airplane mode, and I can anticipate it being used for extended periods of time where internet connectivity is unavailable.

Android :: How To Run Gmote Before Windows Login?

Nov 1, 2010

I have just installed Gmote on my Android phone and absolutely love it. I now have no need for the keyboard on my windows 7 computer in the living room. I only use this for video / music so Gmote is perfect for this. It means I can control everything on my phone without having to walk to the other side of the room to tend to my computer. The problem is I want to keep the windows password logon screen, but Gmote is not running at this time so I am unable to enter my windows password using my phone. My question is how do I get Gmote to run before the login screen so I can use it to input my password? I have gone into gpedit.msc and tried to add the program to a start up script, however this has not worked. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this working so I can input my windows logon password with Gmote?

Android :: How To Control Activity Flow - Back Button Versus Home Button

Sep 2, 2010

I have 3 activities in my app: Activity1 -> Activity2 -> Activity3. Inside Activity3, if the user presses Back, I would like to return to Activity2. In Activity3's onPause event, I added a finish() statement. That's probably not even necessary, but I wanted to make sure this Activity gets cleaned up. This works fine.
However, while in Activity3, if the user presses Home or starts a new app (through notification bar or some other means), I want both Activity3 and Activity2 to finish. If the user returns to this app, he should resume with Activity1.

I have figured out how to do one or the other, but I can't figure out how to handle both cases, if it's even possible. Can I trap the "Back" button in Activity3 and send a message back to Activity2 telling it not to finish()? It seems like the Activities follow the same lifecycle flow (Pause, Stop) regardless of what you do to send them to the background. Just to answer the question of why I want this behavior, imagine that Activity1 is a login screen, Activity2 is a selection screen, and Activity3 is a content screen. If I press Back from the content page, I want to be able to make a new selection. If I exit via any other means (Home, notification bar), I want the user to be "logged out".

General :: Changing App Type Or App Action Type?

Nov 7, 2013

My current situation is that I have a phone with 2 camera apps on it, stock and camera FV-5.

Camera FV-5 is slower than the stock camera, so I only use it in situations which I need manual control.

Whenever I open whatsapp and try to send a photo, the app asks me which camera I want to use, with no option to always use stock. I don't want camera FV-5 to exist as an option, as I will open it if I want to use it.

Is there a way to remove an app from the list so that my phone does not recognise camera FV-5 as a camera?

Android :: Overriding Home Button For Car Home Replacement Application

May 19, 2010

I have been working on a replacement for the stock Car Home app for a bit, and I am completely stumped on how to override the Home button so that my app will be brought back to the foreground whenever the phone is docked. This is the way that Car Home works, so there must be a way. It seems that BroadcastReceivers won't work, because the intent that is broadcast whenever the Home button is pressed will still cause the default homescreen app to launch; I cannot prevent it. I can override the Home button from within my app, but that does me no good since this needs to work when the user is outside my app. Car Home also does not do anything weird like set itself as the default homescreen app while it's running (I checked the logcat to make sure).
I've been really beating my head against the wall on this. Does anyone have any ideas, or can you at least point me in the right direction?
