Android : Move Icons On Droid MapView / Way To Update Position?
Sep 25, 2010
I'm working on an application that displays the location of moving items on a Google MapView. I need a way to update the position of the icons that represent the items (as well as change the facing of the icons every two seconds as updated data comes in). I currently have an activity in the app that extends MapActivity. On to this I have overlaid a static Overlay that draws some lines on the map and an ItemizedOverlay that draws a static icon.

I was wondering if it is possible to start a ListActivity and in real time decide how far down the list it should be focused on. (Example: When the activity is started it checks for certain conditions and then it may scroll down to a row partially through the list.)

I noticed that the position of the builtInZoomControls in WebView (bottom, horizontal right) is not consistent with the default position in the MapView (bottom, horizontal center).
1) Why is that not consistent? (Probably a question to be asked to Google)
2) Is there a way to horizontal center the builtInZoomControls of the WebView without applying custom Zoom controls? Or is that the only way?

I need to place additional image button "my current location" to a top right corner of the MapView. Any ideas how to do this?
Making the questions generic:
1) According to MapView documentation it is possible to attach additional view objects to a MapView. How to do this?
2) How to place such additional controls into specific position on MapView?

I would do this: [URL] .... (created with paint)
Because I get to edit files, but I am looking for a long time without finding how to put ALL the icons on the left, and keep only the icons on the right as in the picture.

I'm wondering if it is possible to move markers when using a MapView. I use a fullscreen MapView which has a few (not more than 5) markers which I would like to move and update by just moving the markers to a new position.

I have uninstalled some sys apps on a Xperia Neo L which has android 4.0.1. Fortunately I have backedup the uninstalled apps. Problem is I can not move the icons anymore! Which application controls that?
When I press the menu button, I can see a 5 pages of apps. In the bottom right there is an icon consisting of four squares, one of them is skewd. Now I press that, and see the screen color changes. Then I press an hold an icon. What I expect is a little virbation and then I can move the icon. In reality I dont' hear any vibration hence icon doesn't move.

I'm running CM7 on my original Droid. I'm using the phone strictly as a VOIP Phone and the cellular connection is deactivated. I've used Ninjamorph to black out the cell phone signal bars, but now there is a big space between my wifi icon and the battery icon (where the cell signal bars used to be). So is there a way that I can swap the positions of the cell phone bars and the wifi icon? Or maybe just a way to remove the cell phone bars from the notification bar?

I have a problem: cannot move icons on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. I cannot move them between home screens, nor can I drag them from apps menu to desktop.
I have ADW launcher EX and ROOT access. The problem started to appear after I have gained root access... it seems.

By the 'arrange icons' option I seem to be only able to delete icons (or unistall the applications). I wonder how I could move them around, as in really *arrange* them. There's a weird thing happened. I have now 5 pages of icons, but the last spot on Page 4 is always left blank. Even if I install a new app, this spot won't fill up, the new icon would appear on Page 5. I wonder how I could get rid of such nuisance.

What is the best way to constantly update the center of a mapView's latitude and longitude in an Android application? I need to display it on a label that is shown on top of the map. I know you can call MapViewObject.getMapCenter() to get a GeoPoint of the center of the map, but where would I place that code so that it is called every time the user moves the map or zooms in/out?

I know how to remove widgets... you long press on them to move them/delete them. My problem is this: I don't know how to remove regular icons on the Hero. On the Moment, everything was simply long press to remove. On this, long pressing the application icons on my home screen(s) just opens the associated programs. I kind of wanted to move them around, I don't wanna have to delete a scene everytime I want to move one icon around.
In short: How do you move/delete application icons from the home screens? (long pressing doesn't work for me)

i have an android app, with a actitity, that shows a map, with a position. This possition is updated on sharedPreferences with a service... ok, that works fine. I need that my activity implements runnable to be a thread that read's the position of sharedPreferences each 1000ms and then update the item position on the map... but it doesn't works. As i saw in debug mode, my thread doesn't work fine, ONLY ENTER ONE TIME on RUN() method... i mean that never enters into RUN() method again, only one time, cause this, the positions doesn't be updated on the map. What is wrong? why this thread doesn't work fine?
public class Locate extends MapActivity{
private TextView userText = null;
private TextView permissionText = null;
private TextView lastUpdateText = null;
private Button locateButton = null;.............

I have a GridView, using a custom adapter (myAdapter extends BaseAdapter), where each item in the grid holds an ImageButton. getView() is working fine.
However, from elsewhere in my code, how can I update the image (setImageResource) for one particular item in the grid based on its position in the GridView?
So far, I've added this to my adapter class:
CODE:........
And would like to write something like this: mygridview.getItemIdAtPosition(20).changeImage(); (doesn't compile).

I just manually updated to 2.01, and everything went fine on the upgrade, no errors. Seems rather zippy, however now when I open the keyboard and the home screen shift to a horizontal layout, all my home screen icons (and widgets) disappear. On all three home screens. Everything is still there in the "all items" menu on the bottom. I'm not getting any kind of crash indicator, or force close or anything. A reboot brings it back, at least until I open the keyboard again. It's pretty consistent, although it seems I can avoid the problem by not opening the keyboard when it's on the home screen (only doing so when in an app). Never saw this with 2.0. I've googled around and seen other folks having similar problems, but no fixes mentioned, and none specifically referring to 2.0.1.

On my htc i was looking through display, i see g sensor calibration and i perform this calibration and after i do so the screen seems to have a delay when switch from the horizontal position to the vertical position. its weird because when i switch to the phone horizontally it switch normally and responds fast. but when i switch back to vertically it takes almost 7 seconds to actually switch back, sometimes it switch within 2 or 3 secs but never as quick as switching horizontally.

If you're already updated, shut down and repower (soft reboot) should do the trick. I actually updated my phone and after it started to do this. I restarted the phone plenty of times i even took the battery out for 30 seconds. It only does it when im texting on the browser, basically everything but the camera. He camera screen rotation is perfect. I even rooted the phone but i havent figured out how to use the root to fix the problem. Should i do a firmware update? Because i just did the htc software update.
