I see that both appbrain and the built in Manage Apps application allows for some applications to be moved to the sd card. What's the advantage? What's the disadvantage?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyway I used the ''force apps to sd'' thingy, where you change the install location by connecting your phone to your PC and use commandprompt. You know: Lorin Bute - Home - How to force apps to move to the SD card onFroyo. Everything worked great until recently when the phone became unable to install many apps when microsd was chosen as the install location and some apps still wont install even with the setting set back to default. I can still force already installed apps to move to sd. One other odd thing is that I tried to install a GPS app and the installation failed (with the default install location). Then I quit almost all running processes using the built in process manager and then the install worked. After a reboot I tried to replicate my actions but no matter what I did I could no longer install the same app. My phone's inability to install some apps appears to be completely random. What's worse is that I installed froyo around the same time so maybe it has a part to play in my problem.

Anyways I have just got myself a Sony Ericsson X10 and it's my first Android phone. I have upgraded from a Samsung Omnia running WinMo 6.5 and I must say I'm enjoying Android so much more already As I'm completely new to Android I have a few questions:
1, Installing Apps - The SE X10 only has 256MB internal memory and I have a 8GB memory card inside, I have noticed nearly everything I download installs to the internal memory. With my Omnia you can choose where to install it, is there a way to force it to install to the SD card or move it from the internal memory to the SD card?
2, Charging - For the first time ever I have never have come across a phone that fully turns it's self on from being fully turned off when a charger is plugged in and turned on. With any rechargeable device you need to give them a good charge (16+ hours) to give them a good life. But how can I do that as the battery is being used as its charging?
3, I've seen some stuff about rooting? I kinda understand it but what is the benefit of doing it? Is it risky? Is there any cons?
I have 10.000+ text messages (sms) om my old phone that I would like to get into my gmail account using the SMS Backup app. So far I have managed - with superb assistance from Boni2K - to get them exported from the old software i had them in (MyPhoneExplorer) as an xml-file that the SMS Backup and Restore app can read.
Problem now is that the SMS Backup and Restore will restore them to the SD-card (it is indicated with a small SD-icon next to the restored messages), and the SMS Backup app only backs up messages from phone memory to GMail. Can I move the restored messages from the SD card memory to the Phone memory?.............
I did a few searches and couldn't find anything, so I decided to be lazy and start a new post on this. Has anyone found an application that will move all applications to the SD card to save phone space and speed everything else up?

I've been reading up on partitioning my SD Card for the Apps 2 SD functionality. Few n00b questions to clear up if I can! 1) Once partitioned, I believe that all app data will be able to be installed on the SD, as opposed to leaving a few hundred KB's on the internal? If I make a direct copy of all SD Card contents, partition the SD, and copy back, will the App's still appear 'as normal', or is a fresh backup/install required? 2) If the answer to the first question is that I CAN simply copy back to the SD, can I then use the "Move to Phone" and "Move to SD Card" options to move ALL of the app data, including the original few hundred KB's originally on internal? Feel like a douche asking these just can't quite get my head around it trawling through the other threads.

I am running 2.2 now, and have App 2 SD that lets me move elligable apps to my sd card. I understood that the lastest version of google maps supported being installed to sd card? however my maps app seems to be up to date but is still in the phone memory, I cant move it using the App 2 SD app or by going to settings/applications/manage applications/maps, do I have to stop the app somehow to allow moving it, or can I uninstall it and reinstall the latest version to my sd card from the marketplace?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to move a PDF file onto my miniSD card, but what folder do I put it in? I have inside a "DCIM" folder...
"100ANDRO" seems to be empty
"100MEDIA" seems to be my camera pictures, since my sense UI update.
"camera" seems to be my old camera pictures, before sense UI
"VIDEO" seems to be empty, I assume any video I take would go here.
Where the DCIM folder is I have a couple others, download, ime, reware, rosie_scroll. Should I make the folder in this part? or in one of those folders? an I just make folders? Change their name? I have an HTC Magic if that matters.
Just wondering if there is a new update or something coming out that will move applications to the sd card so our applications and games can be better or up to par with the iphone. Also im beginning to run out of room with my internal memory.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an paid app currently selling in the market with its copy protection turned on. I'm thinking about turning this off in order to reduce the size of my app and allow the "move to sd card" function to work. I've read that, in the past, people were having issues when the dev switched the copy protection setting from off to on. Is this still an issue? If users are still having problems then I'll leave things as they are. I understand that copy protection isn't really helping and I should just leave it off, but since I've had it on through several updates now, I'd hate to cause my users grief by changing now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running android 2.2 froyo. I have installed Facebook and twitter on my phone and when I try to move them to the SD card I can't. To do this I'm using avast! Mobile security and it has an option to do so. The button "move to SD card" is blacked out for Facebook, twitter and steam. Is there anyway I can get these on my SD card? I have very little internal memory so every megabite counts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it any reason why there is no option to move app to Sdcard on Jelly Bean. I am using Galaxy s3 jelly bean 4.2.
Is this a limitation on Jelly Bean.
is it true per Jelly Bean you can not move app that is less than 1GB.
What's up with storage, I have downloaded around 70 apps from central and I am up to 43 mb storage, my card is still at 7.32 gb. Anyway to move the apps to the SD or do we just have to wait for froyo? Will the phone become unresponsive or slow once I reach 0 mb or will the data will automatically be used on the SD?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyway, we all got 2.2 now and can "move apps to the SD" card. I presume one might want to move apps to the SD card to "free up some space" but is that the ONLY reason to move the apps to the card?? Is anyone NOT WAITING until space on the phone is an issue and moving the apps to the card right now?? Are there certain apps that are recommended to be on the phone for proper/faster performance? (I know this was an issue with the Palm Centro I used to have where certain apps HAD TO reside on and launch from the phone)?? What are the general pros/cons (if any, besides "saving space," perhaps regarding performance or other concerns) with leaving apps on the phone vs. the SD card?
