Samsung Vibrant :: Is It Easy To Screw Up Phone Beyond Repair?

Oct 8, 2010

I'm looking for some advice. I'm thinking about rooting my Vibrant.I have no experience with this kind of thing but have done some reading and watched some videos on the topic. My questions are:

1 - Is this risky- is it easy to screw up the phone beyond repair?
2 - Can I undo the rooting once it's done?
3- Are there many advantages to rooting?

I mainly like the idea of being able to delete stock apps and would love to have the wireless tether capabilities.

General :: How To Repair / Unbrick Android Tablet

May 19, 2014

I experimented a bit with the settings and I adapted the tablet one file in ROM (Data / system / etc) vold.fstab.

Unfortunately tablet not working, only show android logo and then nothing. In recovery I got it, wipe data / factory reset and wipe cache partition but without result, that result is the same.

Is there any way to copy original file or modify the edited file in ROM?

I suppose some way by cable and ADB.

Firmware unfortunately I do not and I did not find him anywhere.

It is a tablet with Rockchip RK3188 -> 3Q RC1025F

HTC Droid Eris :: Battery Won't Charge After Repair

Jul 6, 2010

First of all, I'm hoping this isn't a duplicate thread. I honestly looked through the first 40-odd pages of threads in hope of not duplicating an existing topic but I gave up. Here's what's up. Got my Eris around the first of April. It worked great, even after the firmware update in May. First week of June I dropped it. It had its silicone case on so the outside glass didn't break but the LCD display inside did. Found an OEM parts supplier, bought a new LCD and installed it with relative ease. What I've got going on now is that the stupid thing won't charge. Took it to Verizon and the chick there tried to charge it with one of their chargers and it still wouldn't work. She had to send me a new battery since they didn't have them in stock there and it came today. I popped it in and it's got a tad more than half life left but it also will not charge.

Nexus :: Headphone Jack / Warranty Repair

Mar 5, 2010

My wife has been complaining about music switching randomly while she's playing it through the headphone jack in her car. I mean, it's so bad that if you touch the N1 it will skip to another song. I finally figured out that something us up with the headphone jack. Loose I guess? Plugged in my N1 and it was just fine. No skipping. SO, now I've got to do something that I just really can't stand going though, and that is getting warranty repair or replacement. Anyone know how long it takes for a repair? I really don't want to hear her complain for a week when she doesn't have her phone. If they go the route of sending me a new one, I know I'll have to pony up my debit card number but do they actually "hold" the funds? As in not available to me? Or do they just take the number in case you don't send the dysfunctional one back?

Motorola Droid X :: 2.2 Gallery Broken - How To Repair It

Oct 5, 2010

SYMPTOM:
When I open Gallery, it immediately closes (it never displays any photos or thumbnails).

CAUSE:
I added some .nomedia files to my SD card (to hide album art from showing up in Gallery), and that's when Gallery refused to open. It just immediately closes/disappears anytime I try and open Gallery.

SOLUTIONS ATTEMPTED:
I'm trying to avoid a factory reset if possible. Here's what I have tried so far:

Cleared data/cache for Gallery app (at Settings>applications>manage applications>menu button>filter>all>gallery>clear data and clear cache). Problem still persists. I tried to repeat this, and now the Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons are both grayed out even after I force close Gallery.

Removed the files under: SD CardAndroiddatacom.android.providers.mediaalbu mthumbs

Removed SD CardDCIM.thumbnails directory

Removed all photos from the gallery and see if it still crashes. I manually deleted the DCIM folder, and snapped a couple test photos to force the recreation of the DCIM folder. I can view Camera Roll from the camera app, but Gallery still refuses to open.

I have also booted to recovery mode and noticed the following error: "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command" From recovery, I used the "Wipe cache partition" utility, rebooted, and Gallery still won't open.

What else can I try? I'm at a loss here. I see a file called "thumbnailScale.trace" but am afraid to delete that.

Motorola Droid :: Repair Loose Battery Door

Dec 9, 2009

My battery door was continuing to slide off. Especially since I got the holster. It seems that when putting the Droid BACK in the holster my fingers 'slide' down the back of the unit and pop the door out. I have had to pick up the door off the floor several times. For those of you with this issue, I have found a way to fix it, once and for all time! (Note: There is a video on the forum showing a fix, but it didn't secure it enough for my unit). So, here is what I did. If you do this, just don't 'squeeze' too hard. And squeeze EACH of the four tabs. It works. when I put my door back in place now, there is a nice, loud SNAP as it pops in. Yes, I noticed the grammar error the distance NEEDS to be shortened.

HTC Incredible :: Possible Loose Camera Lens Cover Repair

May 31, 2010

Like many other people, my camera lens cover pushed in slightly letting dust onto the lens. I didn't want to go to verizon, lose my phone for a month, and lose my data just for a tiny part so I'm taking matters into my own hands. This procedure is currently in progress and may or may not be successful. Cross your fingers for me!

1)Take off the back cover of your phone.

2)Using your fingernail, gently pry up the camera lens cover. It is only attached by a weak adhesive. When you're done, the phone looks like this with the camera lense exposed:

3)Now pop the glass lens cover and the foam piece behind it away from the red ring and scrape away the old glue that held these parts together. Sorry I don't have a picture of this.

4)Put a dab of gorilla glue on your finger and smear it on the red ring. Place the glass lens cover on the glue without smearing glue on the lens. Use the back of a regular Bic-type pen to apply pressure to hold the components together.Well, that I far as I am. At 11:00, I think the glue will be dry enough to continue and I will update my progress. At this point my biggest worry is glue smudges on the glass.

Android : Using Phone As A Modem / Mobile Hot-spot

Oct 12, 2010

I've got an HTC Desire which has a Mobile Hotspot App on it - so I can connect my laptop to the WiFi signal generated by my phone.I have "Unlimited Internet" with a fair-usage cap of 1GB. (such a farce, that use of the word unlimited, why don't they just say 1GB?)However, the terms and conditions explicitly disallow using the phone as a modem. My question is, can they tell, and if so, how? Surely the HTTP/HTTPS requests being sent out by the phone are exactly the same, regardless of whether it's coming from the phone or the laptop? If they aren't (perhaps some ID which says this is a phone as apposed to a different ID which will be sent by the laptop's browser), is there a way to make it look as if the requests being sent are coming from the phone?

Android :: Transfer Contacts Into G1 From Old Mobile And Resetting Phone

Dec 6, 2009

When I bought my G1 the guy in the shop used his own gmail account to demonstrate and forgot to reset the phone. I got home transfered all my contacts into the G1 from my old mobile which then died. I only have my contacts on the G1 now and no other back up copy. My problem is that the shopguy's gmail is still the default account and I need to do a factory reset. I am unable to synch my contacts with my own gmail account. I am unable to download apps from the market as I dont know the shopguy's password. I am therefore unable to back up my contacts before I reset the phone.

I have been looking for ways to back up my contacts to my PC so that I can reset the phone and then export them back and synch them with gmail via the G1. It seems impossible to do using the USB cable? It is also not possible to save the contacts to SIM or the memory card? I have looked into using sites like zyb or vodafone 360 for backing up my contacts online but they dont seem to work with the G1?

Android :: Writing Mobile Phone Radio Station App

Oct 15, 2010

I want to write an app that will stream MP3s from a server to any of the three major smartphone operating systems in the US (iPhone, Blackberry, and Android). Here is the tradeoff I'm concerned with: if I write the app natively, it will make for the best user experience and give me the capability to add many more features if I want, but I will have 3 separate codebases, which violates the DRY principle. If I use one of the frameworks out there to write it in Javascript/HTML (e.g. Rhomobile Rhodes), then I have one codebase for all the major platforms, so I'm not violating DRY and the development process is simpler in that respect, but a) the user experience will suffer, and b) I did some simple tests using SoundManager to play MP3 files with Javascript on the iPhone, and it started sucking right away (e.g. the second phase of the experiment after "cool, I can play an MP3" was "I have no access to ID3 tags? That sucks.").
