Motorola Droid :: Repair Loose Battery Door
Dec 9, 2009
My battery door was continuing to slide off. Especially since I got the holster. It seems that when putting the Droid BACK in the holster my fingers 'slide' down the back of the unit and pop the door out. I have had to pick up the door off the floor several times. For those of you with this issue, I have found a way to fix it, once and for all time! (Note: There is a video on the forum showing a fix, but it didn't secure it enough for my unit). So, here is what I did. If you do this, just don't 'squeeze' too hard. And squeeze EACH of the four tabs. It works. when I put my door back in place now, there is a nice, loud SNAP as it pops in. Yes, I noticed the grammar error the distance NEEDS to be shortened.

I searched the forums and couldn't find any posts on this yet. I can't imagine I'm the fist one to have this problem. Has anyone noticed that over time the battery cover seems to get looser and looser? Its to the point now where it sometimes falls off in my pocket. Other then getting a new case has anyone came up with any solutions. Anyone else experience this problem?

Like many other people, my camera lens cover pushed in slightly letting dust onto the lens. I didn't want to go to verizon, lose my phone for a month, and lose my data just for a tiny part so I'm taking matters into my own hands. This procedure is currently in progress and may or may not be successful. Cross your fingers for me!
1)Take off the back cover of your phone.
2)Using your fingernail, gently pry up the camera lens cover. It is only attached by a weak adhesive. When you're done, the phone looks like this with the camera lense exposed:
3)Now pop the glass lens cover and the foam piece behind it away from the red ring and scrape away the old glue that held these parts together. Sorry I don't have a picture of this.
4)Put a dab of gorilla glue on your finger and smear it on the red ring. Place the glass lens cover on the glue without smearing glue on the lens. Use the back of a regular Bic-type pen to apply pressure to hold the components together.Well, that I far as I am. At 11:00, I think the glue will be dry enough to continue and I will update my progress. At this point my biggest worry is glue smudges on the glass.

Will messing around with my Droid, which I love!, I have noticed that the rectangle piece above the batter door gets very warm, and sometimes hot. Is this normal or is something wrong here? I have disabled wifi, bt, gps, the sync feature?, and dimmed the screen to low and nothing seems to fix it. It happens all the time, no matter what I am doing.

First droid had an imperfection on the glass screen that caused a black spot (prolly 3-4 pixels big) on a white background in which I could not fix because it was part of the glass. Second droid had dust infiltrating on the sides leading to a distraction when viewing the screen. Now, my third droid has such a loose battery cover that it comes off in my pocket a lot. Am I too picky or do I just have bad luck? Really don't want to go to the verizon store again for a loose battery cover but I think that is a legitmate problem, and btw I have tried a different battery cover and that isn't the problem, it must be what the cover hooks onto inside the phone that is causing it to be loose.

First of all, I'm hoping this isn't a duplicate thread. I honestly looked through the first 40-odd pages of threads in hope of not duplicating an existing topic but I gave up. Here's what's up. Got my Eris around the first of April. It worked great, even after the firmware update in May. First week of June I dropped it. It had its silicone case on so the outside glass didn't break but the LCD display inside did. Found an OEM parts supplier, bought a new LCD and installed it with relative ease. What I've got going on now is that the stupid thing won't charge. Took it to Verizon and the chick there tried to charge it with one of their chargers and it still wouldn't work. She had to send me a new battery since they didn't have them in stock there and it came today. I popped it in and it's got a tad more than half life left but it also will not charge.

Well, it was bound to happen. Dropped my Eris getting out of the car last night. Sitting on my lap, forgot about it, stood up, and heard it hit the pavement. The battery door got some scratches, luckily nothing else happened.
Does anyone know any sites that are selling OEM battery replacement doors? I might try to go to Verizon today and see if they have one, (highly doubt it) because these scratches are killing me.

SYMPTOM:
When I open Gallery, it immediately closes (it never displays any photos or thumbnails).
CAUSE:
I added some .nomedia files to my SD card (to hide album art from showing up in Gallery), and that's when Gallery refused to open. It just immediately closes/disappears anytime I try and open Gallery.
SOLUTIONS ATTEMPTED:
I'm trying to avoid a factory reset if possible. Here's what I have tried so far:
Cleared data/cache for Gallery app (at Settings>applications>manage applications>menu button>filter>all>gallery>clear data and clear cache). Problem still persists. I tried to repeat this, and now the Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons are both grayed out even after I force close Gallery.
Removed the files under: SD CardAndroiddatacom.android.providers.mediaalbu mthumbs
Removed SD CardDCIM.thumbnails directory
Removed all photos from the gallery and see if it still crashes. I manually deleted the DCIM folder, and snapped a couple test photos to force the recreation of the DCIM folder. I can view Camera Roll from the camera app, but Gallery still refuses to open.
I have also booted to recovery mode and noticed the following error: "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command" From recovery, I used the "Wipe cache partition" utility, rebooted, and Gallery still won't open.
What else can I try? I'm at a loss here. I see a file called "thumbnailScale.trace" but am afraid to delete that.

just got the EVO today and it has a build date of 6/22/10 and is V003. Everything seems ok on it (there is a little bit of light leak, but not bad...I inspect a couple of them and they all had the lower screen level with the bezel while the top was recessed slightly) except for the battery door. It seems snug enough and doesn't pop off, but the right side (if you're looking at it, opposite the volume button) isn't flush. It's as though the two lock tabs on that side don't completely engage and you can manage to get a finger nail in there to pop it off. I know its a little OCD, but I don't like it. Anyone else have a door like that? I searched, but didn't see this exact issue. It will stay fairly flush on that side until you snap in the other side and then it lifts up. Should I try to get a new door or just exchange the whole unit? I know it's probably not a big deal, but to me it's annoying.

Finally got my replacement EVO yesterday was all excited until I just noticed the battery door cover does not fit tight! There is a gap along the whole right side. big enough for dirt and dust to get into the phone. The build date is 7/05/10. Also, the camera lens is not centered in the cover hole. There no red showing on the bottom of the hole and a big red gap on the top of the hole. I cannot believe HTC lets phones like this out the door! Where is the QA/QC?

Why are there no battery door covers for the sprint hero. What if the cheap volume buttons stop working what are we suppose to do then when that happens. I was looking for battery door covers online and couldn't find one but one that was for an extended door.

Just came from twitter where HTCPedia had this article about the black, yellow and red insides of new phones. and they said the antenna was located on the back of the battery door and if you had it off you would have no signal haha im just a little amused i guess by that because i dont really understand how this works i mean if it doesnt connect somehow when the door is on and im a little worried the signal might not be the best what if the battery door gets loose or something idk what do you guys think From Black to Yellow and Red. So I have a squeaky clean account with Verizon, four lines, all smart phones minus one phone. NEVER missed a payment and always upgraded. I have had plenty of problems with my phones but never complained too much or created issued. I have been very nice with them, but I've about hit my limit here.
We have a defective Moto Droid on our account, and a defective Incredible. They have already agreed to give me an X for my Incredible. But, they have sent us not one, but now 3 refurbrished phones that are crap. The screens have ALL been loose, and the build has been absolute crap compared to the original phone. They are sending me another one from a different warehouse tomorrow. I am so irritated. If I receieve another refurb with a loose screen and bad build I don't think I am going to be able to deal with Verizon very nicely.
What do you think I should do? Should I be nice and wait for ANOTHER refurb if this one is bad? Or should I get mad and tell them they can take there refurb backs and send me a NEW phone?

My phone has started going off for no apparent reason recently and opening the case shows that the battery is slightly loose, so i push the battery back in and can turn it on again?
Anybody else had this, any suggested solution? I've had it for 8/9 months without a problem like this before these past few days.

I received a refurb for the one that bricked and the screen on this thing is driving me nuts. It clicks like a BB storm when tapped, it opens in my pocket. Heck the screen will shift almost 1/4 inch from top to bottom. I liked my old Droid and after almost 9 months of use it was still tight. My question is, did quality control miss my first or second Droid and will Verizon give me grief if I complain about it?
