Android :: Overlay Transparent Bitmap On Camera

Aug 10, 2010

I'm passing a bitmap through a bundle to an activity which I called cameraView on which the user has access to the camera of the device. I'd like to overlay that bitmap with transparency using the camera as the background. Is it possible? to put the bitmap in front of the camera? And how can I change the transparency level? Here is my code: This is the camview.xml:

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<SurfaceView android:id="@+id/surface_camera" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="10dip" android:layout_weight="1"> </SurfaceView> </RelativeLayout>

And this is the java:
public class cameraView extends Activity implements SurfaceHolder.Callback{
SurfaceView mSurfaceView; SurfaceHolder mSurfaceHolder;
Camera mCamera; boolean mPreviewRunning=false; private Context mContext = this;
public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle);
setContentView(R.layout.camview); Bundle f = getIntent().getExtras();
picture = f.getParcelable("bitmap"); mSurfaceView = (SurfaceView) findViewById(R.id.surface_camera); mSurfaceHolder = mSurfaceView.getHolder();
mSurfaceHolder.addCallback(this); mSurfaceHolder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS);
} @Override // Create the Surface and Open the Camera
public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) { mCamera = Camera.open();
} @Override // Reacts for camera changes public void surfaceChanged(SurfaceHolder holder,
int format, int w,int h) { if (mPreviewRunning) { mCamera.stopPreview();
} Camera.Parameters p = mCamera.getParameters(); p.setPreviewSize(w, h);
mCamera.setParameters(p); try { mCamera.setPreviewDisplay(holder);
} catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace();
} mCamera.startPreview(); mPreviewRunning = true;
} @Override // When the camera is closed
public void surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder holder) { mCamera.stopPreview();
mPreviewRunning = false; mCamera.release(); }
// When the picure is taken. This method gives the byte[] of the picture
Camera.PictureCallback mPictureCallback = new Camera.PictureCallback() {
public void onPictureTaken(byte[] imageData, Camera c) {
} };

Android :: Draw Transparent Lines On Bitmap Via Touch Input

Jul 23, 2010

I am working on a paint application for Android. Now I want to implement an eraser to allow erasing parts of a loaded bitmap by using touch input and making the bitmap transparent along the finger's path.

A very good example of what I try to achieve is shown in the application Steamy Window for Android. Steamy Window simulates a fogged window, where a user can wipe parts of the fog via touch input.

UPDATE: I have posted the most important sections of my current code below. I am not really happy with it for the following reasons:

Drawing is quite sluggish. What can I improve here?
I am looking for a way to use an alpha mask in order to set the pixel transparency/alpha of the pixels as I want to simulate a paint brush. Any suggestions how this could be achieved?

Android :: Make Some Part Of An Image Transparent?

Aug 28, 2009

I have a scenario at hand, for which I need a solution as soons as possible. Here is the problem statement: I need to show an image overlapped by some other image, 100%. The condition is that the picture in background should also be visible through the foreground picture but only through some part of the foreground picture. Please try to visualise how it should look like. There is a picture shown and in middle of it, there is a transparent area through which the background image is visible. I knew that I can make an image transparent and make the background image visible but here I want only some part of the foreground image to be transparent so that it looks like sort of picture frame applied to the background puicture. And for those who read the statement carefully would have understood that the ultimate thing desired is to have a picture frame applied to the picture. Can anyone please suggest a good way to do this.

Android :: Lunar Lander Make Image Backgrounds Transparent?

Mar 9, 2010

I'm trying to make a GUI program with the Android SDK, using their Lunar Lander example as a significant self-teaching tool in the process. I've noticed their sprites' images' backgrounds, which were at least usually pure white, did not show up in their program. I want to ask how they did that, since their site doesn't explain simple things very well. I've managed to pull that off before on another GUI SDK, wherein all I had to do was to call a function and pass it a few floats to define a certain color, and until my code told it to do otherwise, that function would make sure that that particular color in my sprites' images was totally transparent. However I've wrestled with the Lunar Lander example and getting my own program to show some custom graphics for a week or two now, and I haven't noticed any such function call in the Lunar Lander example. I tried to look for it, but I did not find anything. I've tried to Google some tutorial or other reference material, but what I've found so far is just straying off into unrelated areas and totally dodging this EXTREMELY important lesson on the SDK's basics.

Android : Use OpenGL To Make Bitmap Without GLSurfaceView?

May 2, 2010

I would like to be able to use OpenGL in the Android to render into a bitmap (or any other sort of buffer I can turn into one), without actually displaying a GLSurfaceView.

The purpose is to dynamically create very complex images using OpenGL, and then drawing those images on the canvas of a MapView.

I have tried overlaying a translucent GLSurfaceView over a MapView, my preferred approach, but it has some problems:

1) I have complex menus I need to display from either the MapView or the GLSurfaceView. I have been doing this using a ListView with its own activity. Unfortunately, that activity pushes the MapView down the stack. The result is a bit of flickering when the ListView activity finishes, popping the MapView back to the top. Even worse, if I use the ListView to overlay the GLSurfaceView (giving it the same complex menu capabilities), when it finishes, the GLSurfaceView reappears but the MapView doesn't display.

2)As soon as the GLSurfaceView is created, the MapView stops fetching and rendering tiles. There seems to be no way to know when the MapView is complete, so I have to delay an arbitrary interval before creating the surfaceview.

3) When the GLSurfaceView is present, the MapView's built-in user interface functions are obscured.

Anyone know if there is a way around any of these problems?

Android :: Easiest Way To Make A WebView Display A Bitmap?

May 31, 2010

I have some images that I loaded from a remote source stored in Bitmap variables and I want to display them. In addition to switching between these images the user should also be able to zoom and pan them. My first idea was to somehow pass them via an intent to the built-in gallery application but this doesn't seem to be possible.
A solution that is suggested in several places is using a WebView since it already supports zooming and panning.
My question is how does my Bitmap data get into the WebView? Do I have to write it to a file first, which I would have to remove again later, or is there an easier way?

Or are there even better ways to accomplish my main goal, which is displaying Bitmap data as zoomable and panable images?

Currently, I'm setting the RGB values pixel by pixel (see code below).I've come to realize this is incredibly slow and possibly just not efficient enough do in an application.
