I find the Gmail app to be not a useful as I'm use to on the iPhone so until they update it are there any alternatives? Is there a better mail app that I sync with my Gmail account?

I have 2 gmail accounts. Unfortunately, one of them is for my calendar and contacts and the other is for my personal e-mail. As of now, my cal and contacts are syncing fine but I do not use the e-mail account that is associated with thier username. I have my other account (personal e-mail) set up sepeartely....along with a few other e-mail accounts(work and etc.). I would like to know if i can leave my cal and contacts setup on the regular droid sync account but change the e-mail account to my personal acct. so it will "push" by default with out having it in a seperate palce on the droid. I know this is confusing but i dont know how else to explian it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the gmail app setup on my HTC desire HD and it works perfectly, however when I open the HTC mail app and try and add gmail to that it doesn't work giving me a password error (even though I am sure it is right) I want to use the htc mail app as it will allow me to have all my email accounts in the same mail box. I have tested it with a hotmail account and it works fine, is gmail supported?

I noticed that the only way to view my school gmail account was through the gmail app, however I can view my personal gmail account with the mail app on my home screen. I have tried to select my ASU gmail account for that app but it doesn't give me an option to show it. Is there any way to add that account to the mail viewer?

What is important to me is my email.. I want to be able to sync my yahoo account with yahoo mail and the mail on the phone so if i send an email on my phone it will appear in the sent folder on my yahoo mail on the computer and vice versa if you follow... With Android being google will i be able to do this from the phones email client like the iphone does...
View 21 Replies View RelatedAt this point I have gmail and the regular Mail built in (fetching mail from a SMTP server) syncing fine, but they do that separately. Obviously, this means triggering the 3G connection twice, once for gmail and once for the Mail app, which in turn means wasted battery life.
Is there a solution? Is there an app that can trigger them both to sync at the same time?

I want to use my gmail account from my phone and have all emails sync on my device. But I do not want to sync my gmail contacts with my "local" contacts (local being the contacts stored on my phone). I only want to sync my emails.
I read on another web site that one guy managed to sync his Outlook contacts with his Android phone contacts, but once he started to configure his gmail account, all his local contacts were automatically saved in his gmail account, and vice versa. Is there a way to use gmail with only emails sync, and without contacts sync? I prefer to be sure that it is possible (and know how to do it) before starting to use gmail on the phone. My Outlook contacts contain lots of professional contacts that I do not want to see in my private gmail account.

In Gmail, you can respond to emails as if it was coming from the business email (server). This was a simple sync I had with Blackberry emails. However, I'm finding difficulties setting up the same thing for my new HTC Incredible (Verizon provider).

The GMail account I have and registered to my cell phone when I got it is an account I've had since the first few weeks GMail was in beta by invitation only over 5 years ago. Needless to say, I have hundreds of contacts in that account.
When I activated my Droid, they ALL came over. What a mess. The Verizon guy emptied my contacts on the phone and uploaded my phone book from my BlackBerry.

I added it under Gmail and logged in. Under Contacts > Accounts, that account sync is ON for contacts and auto-sync & Background data is checked.

After waiting for a while the phone was still not responding then I forced to shut down and turned it on again. Okay I again edited the same text and tap to choose receivers. Good grief! NO CONTACTS! When I set up my new (refurb) phone with my gmail account, I had tons of contacts in my phone that I had never seen before. The girl at sprint said it imports all of my email contacts, and it looked like they had added contacts from email addresses I had only emailed once, that werent even in my contacts group on my email. They ended up wiping my contacts and transferring them over from my old hero. She said I should create a new gmail account, and use it ONLY for syncing my contacts, that way I dont get all the other email contacts in my phone also. Im wondering how I do this, because I want to set it up before 2.1 comes out for the hero, so when I upgrade to 2.1, I wont have the same issue.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have tried to get to the bottom of this problem a few different ways, but haven't had any luck and haven't found it in any other threads. The issue is that after the 2.1 update my gmail will not sync to the phone. I have gone to Settings < Accounts & Sync < Google and found that Contacts, Gmail, and Calendar are all set to sync but while Contacts and Calendars have recent times for their latest sync Gmail is always the same. I have unchecked/rechecked the Sync Gmail toggle to get the sync going and the arrows spin but it never updates. I have also tried to refresh from the Gmail app itself with no luck and logged into a Wifi connection to see if it would work over something other than the mobile network still no luck. I have also rebooted several times with this seeming to work to resync Gmail only once and not in the last couple of tries. I do have Advanced Task Killer and have used it to close down a few programs including the browser. This never had any affect in 1.5 but just wanted to make sure a new problem couldn't have come from that.

My problem is, I am wanting to do something so simple, I want to sync my contacts on my phone to my gmail account so that it's backed up (if anything happens to my phone) But i tried going to settings and it wont let me do it (maybe i am doing it incorrectly).
