Android :: Is It Possible To Have Too Many Volume Changes?
Mar 15, 2010
One of the things that bugs me about my Droid is that the volume rocker is too easily hit, resulting in accidental volume changes to/from silent mode. My solution has been to use Tasker to set the volume as desired every minute.Looking back at my days of working with dial-up modems, I remember a guy who set the modem init string to write to memory every time the modem initialized. After about 1000 or so modem initializations, the modem failed to retain the written information because the flash memory used in the modem was only good for a limited number of writes.Am I in danger of running into a similar problem on my Droid, where it no longer retains the settings because I've written them too many times?

I'm writing an Android application that plays back voice mails using Media Player, which are just WAV files that have been sent to the device. When I play the file, it's played on the device's speaker, or else it plays through headphones if they're plugged in. What I want to do is play the file so that it sounds to the user as if it's at the same volume level as a normal phone call. Is there a way to route playback so that the file is played through the phone's ear piece instead of out of the speaker?

On one page of my app there are sounds. Is there a line of code to allow the volume up/down buttons to switch to media volume control for that page of the app only? Or do I need to set it for the entire app, and how do I do that?

Is there any way to disable the volume control button as it works on the ringer volume? I use locale, but I bump those buttons often enough and turn the ringer off completely.

Recently purchased the Virgin Mobile Supreme (Sprint Vital, ZTE N9810). The one thing that is bothering me is that there is only one volume setting for the combined ringtone and notifications. I would like to set these volumes separately.
I tried one volume control tool, but even though it had 'separate' controls changing ringtone changed notification and vice versa.

I noticed that when turning down the volume of the ringer with the volume rocker it doesn't automatically turn down the notification volume as well. Is there a way to set the volume rocker to adjust both notification and ringer volume to the same level? You can test this by going under Settings/Sound and Display/Ringer Volume...and try adjusting the volume with the rocker and it only adjust the Ringer Volume.

I have Android 4.2 on my mobile phone which I have bought recently.
Everything is running fine on my phone so far but with the exception of my clock's alarm volume.
For example:I set the alarm volume to max, I go and set my clock alarm to ring and when the alarm rings the volume is set to very low. When I check back to verify the volume, the volume is set to very low. I am very sure that I have set it to max though.
I have tried to reset my phone to factory settings, it didn't work..

I don't know if it's from some app I installed or what. But I noticed recently that suddenly the volume rocker only controls the Media Volume or the In-call volume (if you're in a call), not the Ringer Volume. I don't have anything playing, so not sure why it's like that. I want it to default to ringer and I'll worry about Media when I'm actually in a program that uses it.

My dad somehow changed his volume control, so it only affects the media volume. Any clue on how to change it back? Instead of Ringer Volume, it says Media Volume on the box that pops up when pressing the volume controls.

I have a ADP1 that just developed a problem. The ear speaker volume is very low. My app does not adjust any volume, but I suspect that some other application is fiddling with it. Or, the unit is defective. (I've had it over a month, though.) First, is there a way to set the default volume of the phone? I couldn't find it. I've rebooted and even removed the battery to see if the default volume would come back. But, no luck. Notes: * The volume is turned all the way up. * Speaker volume is fine. * Bluetooth headset volume is fine

I've noticed when playing music, whether through the music player or Pandora, I can't get the volume up to those ear-splitting levels I sometimes prefer. One workaround, at least for my local music files, would be to rerecord them in Audacity and increase the general volume there, though this would result in some distortion. I would prefer to have a way to increase my Hero's volume past the normal settings. I've searched the market but couldn't find anything that actually "boosts" the volume. Does anyone know of anything?

I'm using a mediaPlayer to play sounds in my application. I want the user to be able to adjust the volume by using the hardware buttons on the device. I tried putting this in my oncreate (setVolumeControlStream (AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC);) but it didn't seem to work. Is there something else I have to do to allow the user to be able to adjust the volume?

Before I destroyed my EVO, I had an app that would allow me to set several volume controls (separate ones for incoming calls, notifications, media, etc), brightness, even the 4G, wifi, and more. It mostly used multiple sliders that went from left (quiet) to right (louder). I did a search here, but none of the returns rang a bell (pun intended). Can you suggest a few of them that meet this description? Maybe one of them is the one I was using. For those of you who are curious, I accidentally drove over my first EVO. Not pretty. I'm trying to set up the replacement just like I had the first one. This time, I'll do backups...

I'm looking for a volume control application (or apps that work together) to
1) Change volumes, vibrate etc. at certain times
2) Lock the volume slider (I'm fed up constantly changing the ringer vol)
I have looked through loads of apps but haven't seen one that does both, and if I use 2 separate programs they fight with each other. I'd prefer one with a widget but not a deal breaker. I currently use Timeriffic for the volume settings/timing and Volume Locker for the locking.

I have a droid eris and i like to keep the notifications volume all the way down so it only vibrates. I've noticed that when I turn the ringer volume to vibrate and then back up or turn the phone off it resets my notification volume.

In the Android phone, while I am watching YouTube videos, I may reduce the audio volume. Once I am done watching, I close all applications and leave the phone. Then when there is a incoming call, the ringer is very feeble. I may miss that call. Can you make the volume adjustment apply only for that application? I don't want the ringer volume get changed.

I need to use volume buttons to control a variable parameter in my application. I use Activity.onKeyDown to get notified when the button is pressed but the media volume is also increased. Android is doing something like below when I press the volume key:
1. increase media / ringtone volume
2. pass the event to my application
Is there a way to avoid increasing the system volume and use volume key only for my application?

I listen to alot of music and i HATE having to wake it up and everything to adjust the volume. I'm used to an iPod where you can adjust while its locked. I was wondering if they'res some way to make this option available with android. I'm using a Motorola A555 with android 1.6. Is there some type of app or a simple code change to make this possible? I want it to be for media but if it would know when to do media or ringer that would be great.

I'm after a simple alarm app with adjustable volume. I find the native app very loud and it shocks me awake.
Something which gets progresively louder would be ideal, also something with slightly milder alarm tones.
