I'm trying to insert values on Android SQLite Database. The question is, Iḿ trying to insert a word, the table has 3 columns, ID, WORD, COUNT. When I insert a word in the database, some method will verify if this word exists on the database. If yes, it will increment the value of COUNT for this word.

Android :: Saving An ArrayList (String) State In SQLite Database

Jul 9, 2010

I'm working on a android application that will display Strings to the user, and the user then has the option to add one to a favorite list. I have searched and searched and cannot find the proper way of doing this. I did get one open source project, everything worked until the user removed a favorite. The database would clear the row of data, but when a new row is added, it would behave as if the deleted row still had data, leaving blanks in the favorite list.

This is my insert method
public long insertString(String newString)
ContentValues newStringValue = new ContentValues();
newStringValue.put(KEY_STRING, newString);
return db.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, newStringValue);

The long returned will always increment even if i use the remove method:
public boolean removeString(long _rowIndex)
return db.delete(DATABASE_TABLE, KEY_ID + "=" + _rowIndex, null) > 0;

If I try to remove the third index, and the user removed a question at the third index, the method returns false, is there a way to completely remove all rows with no data?

Android :: Insert Data On Sqlite Database Table From Word Or Excel Document?

May 22, 2010

In my project, I would like to create a database with single table. I would also like to insert data on this table from word or excel document. is it possible? if so please how can I do it? some code snippets would be of great help. I have four different activities which I would like them to interact with this single table. the first is the main activity and its purpose is just to launch the other three activities according to user choice. so it has no interaction with the DB. but the other three activities will read from the table whenever called. Can you please tell me how to call the dbhelper on these activities? I am unable to do this and I am currently creating one db per each activity which is not the optimal way.

Android :: Saving ArrayList In SQLite Database In Android

Jun 29, 2010

I've been working with SQLite on android and I would like to add an arraylist to a column in a table, and then fetch the data back as an arraylist. The arraylist is a list of Longs. I've noticed that SQL has an option for storing BLOBS, however, it looks like I need to convert the array list to a byte[] first before being able to store it as a blob in my SQLite database. Is there any other option for saving my array of data, I should consider?

Android :: Insert SQLite Record With Datetime Set To 'now' In Droid App?

Apr 16, 2009

Say, we have a table created as:

create table notes (_id integer primary key autoincrement, created_date date)

To insert a record, I'd use

ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues();
initialValues.put("date_created", "");
long rowId = mDb.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, initialValues);

But how to set the date_created column to "now"? To make it clear, the

initialValues.put("date_created", "datetime('now')");

Is not the right solution. It just sets the column to "datetime('now')" text.

Android :: Speed Up Single SQLite Insert?

Nov 1, 2010

I have a database (stored on a Class 6 SD card) with a single empty table (5 columns). There is an index on each column. Performing a single INSERT statement (whether using an SQLiteStatement or calling SQLiteDatabase.insert()) takes about 800ms on my N1 (2.2.1). The INSERT statement does NOT do anything fancy (like subselects). Is there any way to speed this up?

Android :: Can't Increase Value Of A Record In Droid / Sqlite Database / How To Do

Aug 6, 2010

I try to increase the value of an integer key in a row in my table. However, nothing really seems to happen.

db.rawQuery("UPDATE table SET key = key + 1 WHERE name=?", new String[] {name});

However, this code works fine (just sets the key to a hard-coded value):

ContentValues values = new ContentValues();
values.put("key", 2);
db.update("table", values, "name=?", new String[] {name});

Also tried '?' instead of just ?, but it resulted just in a run-time error.

Android :: When Should I Call A Close Method Of A SQLite Database In Droid

Jun 14, 2010

I want to know when a close method of a sqlite database should be called in a life cycle, since the NotePad sample in the sdk (http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/notepad/index.html) doesn't call NotesDbAdapter.close(), it implements that method though.

My application accesses the db not so frequently, but some, it depends on user requests. I think I should open the db at the onCreate, and close it at the onDestroy. Is that a good practice?

Android :: Finding Auto Incremented Values From An INSERT OR IGNORE Statement In SQLite

Sep 25, 2010

I have a table called "images":

CODE:.........

On inserting a row, I'd like the URL column to be unique. At the same time, I'd like to find out the id of the row with that URL.

INSERT OR IGNORE images (url, caption) VALUES ("http://stackoverflow.com", "A logo"); SELECT last_insert_rowid(); -- returns the id iff there was an insert.

Of course, I'd like to do it as quickly as possible, though my first thought was along the the lines of the following pseudo code:

CODE:...........

But this seems hopelessly inefficient.

What is the most performant way of getting the Auto incremented row id from an INSERT OR IGNORE statement.
