I'm looking for an IM app that I can run in the background that wont keep my phone awake and draining the battery. Hi AIM and Hi Yahoo both keep my phone awake continuously.

Is there an IM app that does not keep your phone awake 100%? I tried eBuddy, but it keeps my phone awake. I'm not sure if meebo does... I think so. I haven't tried Nimbuzz, anyone know?

Ever since the last update Handcent keeps my phone awake, and subsequently kills the battery if I get a text message and don't get to it for a while. I have the pop-up set to not turn on the screen or even appear over the lock screen. I uninstalled for a while used chomp and stock, along with sms popup and neither caused similar behavior?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI own an HTC Hero and the phone can only be awaken by pressing the menu button or the power off button. Dunno if it's like this for every Android phone. I'm looking for a way to awake the phone by touching the screen. My idea is to replace the KeyGuard with something else but instead of awaking the phone by pressing one of those buttons, I would like to do it by touching the screen. Is this even possible or the Androd framework doesn't provide this functionality at all?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy phone is having the 100% Awake Time issue and I can't figure out why. I've uninstalled a few apps that I thought could be the problem, but that made no difference. I then changed to a completely empty screen layout to remove any possible widget issues, still the same. Last night I installed SystemPanel so I could get a better idea of what's going on and now I'm even more confused. It doesn't show a single thing that's eating up CPU time. Under Battery Use it shows Android System at 43%, then Cell Standby and WiFi at 14%. Is there something in the Android OS that is screwy?
I'm at a complete loss on how to continue trouble shooting this. I'd really rather avoid a complete reset of the phone, but if it's the only option I have. I'm going to go through and uninstall basically everything I can today to see if I can find the culprit, but any ideas would be great. If it was an app though, wouldn't I see it in SystemPanel? Here's some shots of my use this morning. I was using it a bit, but there's obvious spots where the phone should have stopped being "awake".
I want recurring sound notifications when I miss calls or texts because the LED alone isn't enough. I got Missed Reminder which does what I need but it's keeping my Sprint Hero awake (80-90% up time when running, 10-20% when not). Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way I can prevent this or is there another app I can use?

They are usually much far apart. and i noticed my battery has been draining alot faster than usual the past few days so im assuming something is keeping my phone awake. How can i tell whats causing it? I havent downloaded any new apps in the last few days so I dont know what it could be.
View 5 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I after reading some threads on reboots and decided to check the awake time and found that phone wasnt sleeping. Battery life wasnt affected all that bad I thought, lasting throughout the day, however I did an FDR reloaded only a few programs and the problem went away (along with the reboots that occurred nearly everytime I started navigator and only navigator). Battery life was exceptional afterwards, still having at least 60% remaining after unplugging around 8 am and checking later than 7pm
I reloaded the following apps
Shazam
xing barcode scanner
LED desire
Google Earth
Spare Parts, and just now sys panel lite.
Today I experienced another reboot, checked awake time and found it to be at 100% again. After unplugging at 8am and checking at 7 pm, battery remaining is at 36%, way under normal (im usually at 60%+ with heavier usage). Very moderate use today , maybe a dozen short calls, a couple emails, no browsing, took 1 picture and sms'd it, and LED desire (first time used since re-installed) I do keep both my wifi and BT on, 4g off. Ive been in good signal range all day.
I noticed that today my phone says:
up time: 6:41
awake time: 2:49
Here's the thing...I have not been on my phone for 2:49. I think I've used it for about 15 total minutes total today (busy with work ha). I've read lots of threads about apps making the up/awake time the same (100%) and not letting your phone sleep. What apps or programs gives you a partial awake time? Is there an app to check it?
I mean it makes it kind of hard to do a trial and error app by app since I don't know at what point it's sleeping and what point it's awake (essentially it would take me 1 app per day to see if the numbers line up, or don't line up with my estimated usage).
For example, if it was 100% it would be easier to test because I would just uninstall, soft reset, and watch it for an hour to see if it's 100% or not, but because mine's at about 50%, that could be the 50% of time it's sleeping properly, if that makes sense!
Also, my usage is as follows (no specific program listed):
cell standby 32%
phone idle 30%
voice calls 23%
android system 11%
display 4%
I left my phone on my dresser last night with the WiFi off, screen at the lowest brightness, no gps on etc... and it lost 30-40% of its battery just by sitting here.... This tells me one thing I think, the phone doesn't sleep? Isn't it suppose to sleep if not in use?
View 35 Replies View Relatedalright, my dad's phone (post update) is at 100% awake time. it wasn't pre-update. my phone is also sitting at a higher awake time post update. i first thought the culprit was the mail app running more often. i have to force close it more frequently now. well, my dad complained about his battery again and i checked the awake time. 100%. he also asked me which programs were essential and i told him to kill the mail app. he said he keeps it open all the time cause he uses it all the time. sooo, now it is looking more to me like it is the mail app keeping the phone from sleeping.
View 2 Replies View RelatedShut off and restarted my phone at 2pm. Took about 2 mins to start up. Looked at awake time - just under three minutes (100%). Locked the screen and waited until 3pm to check the awake time. At 3pm my awake time was about 3 minutes (5%) AWESOME.
Shortly after, I missed a call. Green notification light was flashing so I check the notifications. Missed call and voicemail. I did not clear the notifications. Checked the awake time, still 5%. I locked the screen. No other notifications, calls, texts, emails, etc for the next hour and forty-five minutes, but my awake time was now one hour and forty-eight minutes (62%).
I did not clear the notifications from the missed call and the voice mail earlier, could that be keeping my phone awake? If so, that is absolutely ********. Is there a fix for this or some setting I am not aware of?
I have a good question (I think). Is there a way to keep the screen awake while charging the phone? For example, I keep it on the charger almost all day while I'm at work. And it would be nice just to glance over at it to see if I have an email and such. Any ideas?

tried unchecking The google Location Services but didn't change anything ( the screenshot is after unchecking it )

So against my will, I've downloaded ATK.
I noticed that upon killing ANY application that was loaded by the system at start up (besides ATK) would allow the phone to sleep.
So FM Radio, Footprints, Docs to Go....
Killing just one of those or I imagine just about anything else that loaded from the start, stopped my wakelock.
Also I noticed by putting the phone into airplane mode, and then taking it out, seemed to work as well.
What is keeping my phone awake through the night and hence draining my battery rapidly. I am going to post screenshots and BetterBatteryStats dump file to make it as clear as possible.
Basically, what I see is that the phone was mostly awake at night and was in deep sleep only for about 1 hour. I don't think it is normal.
-Phone unplugged from the charger at 9:12 with 100% Battery power (according to battery indicator)
-Access the market once
-wake up the phone at 9:43 and the battery indicator is down to 94%
wtf? Check spare parts partial wake usage since last unplugged and the Calander is up there at the top above the Android system.

Ive had my hero 6 weeks now and used shke awake from the start, but recently its been crap. During calls my screen goes black approx 40% of the time and its driving me mad.Is there another app in the market that performs better than 60%?Also, is there an app that disables the volume buttons?

If I start this service and then immediately use the power button to switch off the screen, then I would expect the phone, at some point, to fall asleep. But it never seems to fall asleep while the service is still doing its stuff. At least, not on my Nexus One.
I'm not using a wake lock (though I do use WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON in the activity that monitors the service progress).
So is it true that I don't need to use a wake lock?
we already got a battery meter in android 4.2.2, and it can tell if something is keeping the phone awake.For example, it shows that the "Android OS" is keep the system awake for 10 hours, but it can not tell me which app is holding some wake locks or wakes the phone frequently.I also installed Better BatteryStats, under Kernel Wakelock, it shows that the gps_lock is holding for 10 hours, but also not related to any app.

I can use ADB shell, but Smart phone flash tool does not recognize phone, MTK droid tool recognizes it, but I can't backup it.

I haven't rooted my phone and I believe that there may be no solution to this problem. Any info at all on this would be appreciated.
