Android :: ID Column In Contacts Database

I read that the different entries in different tables are linked via the _ID column in that table. For example a contact might have an _ID = 1 I get via
ContactsContract.Contacts._ID
And now I want to read the phone number of that contact using
CODE:.............
This works fine, but what I would expect is that if the _ID of the contact is 1 that the _ID of the phone number is as well one since they belong together, but they are not equal. So the question is how does Android match these entries?

I have a database that I download external and save on my sdcard. But this database is also used for an iPhone app and has a column id and not _id (sqlite uses _id). How can i rename this column to _id?

I have a table with column headings: | _id (long) | Name (String) | x (integer) | y (integer) |
I want to delete the row in the table that has Name myName.

Just as a note: myName is for sure in the database. Also, I can not use the ROWID since I am getting myName from a ListView.
I just started programming with Android and I have tried for days to solve this problem.
Is my WHERE clause correct (KEY_NAME + "=" + myName)?

I am developing an application in android allowing the user to maintain his weight by providing him diet suggestions. I have done with that part and now, I need to display user weight tracking details using bar graph. I am able to fetch the Weight and Login date column data from the sqlite database to List<String>. I don't understand the way to put these values into a Bar Graph with Date Column data as X-axis and Weight column data as Y-axis.

Can I add a column of data to the Contacts db, such as birthday, favorite color, whatever. Or does the platform/ framework make this difficult? If possible, would I do it through the contacts content provider?

Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way, but if so, please correct me. Here is the situation: I have a query which returns URI strings for ringtones stored in a database.

This has got me all confused! I'm trying to return the max value from a column in my database but the return value is always the name of the column.
The query I use:
private static final String SELECTMAX = "SELECT MAX(?) FROM " + TABLE_NAME ;
The (test) function to return the max value:

The column i'm querying is an INTEGER type but the result 's' is always the column name and not the desired value.

I have some code that manipulates the Contacts database via the Contacts Provider (ContactsContract.RawContacts.CONTENT_URI), so I can add/edit/delete my Google contacts, Phone contacts and the Sim contacts cached there. Changes to the Phone contacts are immediate, changes to the Google contacts are synced to my Google account, but changes to the SIM contacts only affect the Contacts DB and aren't persisted to the SIM.
Ie while I can delete the SIM contacts from the Contacts DB, once I reboot my phone the SIM contacts get repopulated into the Contacts DB. The IccProvider (accessed via content://icc/adn) seems to be a way to directly access the SIM contacts. The source code seems to suggest so and there is annectdotal evidence that this works, but it is an internal Android API and it doesn't work on my Galaxy S in any case. So, does anyone know a definitive way of modifying/deleting SIM contacts. Or failing that, a way to stop the SIM contacts being reopulated on reboot, though this seems less satisfying.

I want to define some Contact Groups. I am wondering where and how does Android store the groups. Maybe in a Sqlite database? If so, will be able to run a insert on it? Otherwise how do you add new Contacts Group via the emulator?

I have a requirement wherein I need a list of all the contacts that are edited/changed.
As per the Android documentation,
_SYNC_DIRTY
will be set every time a contact is edited. But, there seems to be a bug in this, which makes this always set to 1 (no matter what), even is we explicitly set it to 0.
So, I was wondering if I can create a SQLite TRIGGER on the contacts database. Such that, everytime a contact is edited, the edited contact id is populated into a different table which I can read later from my application.
I tried this...
CREATE TRIGGER IF NOT EXISTS updated_contacts UPDATE ON 'contacts.db'.phones
BEGIN
INSERT INTO updated_table SET updated_id=old.person;
END;
But a few problems here...
1) 'phones' is a table in the contacts database. but, I am not sure about the name of the contacts database (here I have assumed it to be 'contacts.db').
2) updated_table is a table on a different database 'mydatabase.db' that I have created from my application. and, I am not sure if I can set TRIGGERS across different databases.
All this in Android 1.6 Also, I am not sure about the permission to access native contacts database on Android.
Is there any other way of achieving this.

I was trying to read all Contacts field one by one and generated a v- card and store it into a database. When I have a huge number of contacts (say more than 150), while reading 155th contacts, I see my application is getting killed and cat log say it because of excessive JNI global refreences. Can anyone pls suggest what is causing the problem and how to solve it. Also, Im not seeing any errors if I have less than 150 contacts............

I'm trying to deploy an application with an existing SQLite database.I've been reading though the examples that are posted but they are always missing some part of the class. I feel like I'm trying to bake muffins but no one told me to use baking powder.Can someone post a full database helper class for depoying an SQLite database on Android? I'm currently developing a Field-Service application that stores data in the local sqlite database on an android device. At some point, usually after completing the data collection rounds, the local sqlite db is to be synchronized to a remote sybase db on the server.Any suggestions as to how this could be achieved or engineered as a solution? Or even better, are there alternatives to synchronizing data in such an application?

I want to design a table whose first column items remain fixed when user scrolls horizontally, but should scroll when the user scrolls vertically. Similarly the first row items remain fixed when user scrolls vertically, but should scroll when the user scrolls horizontally. Can this be achieved using a TableLayout? Or is there any other combination of widgets that I could use?

One of my android apps performs the following specific SQLite query:

Now that works on some Android phones, but on a few of them it crashes with the following error:

For some reason, "-1" is interpreted as a column rather than a number... that doesn't make much sense and when I read the SQLite query language I see no need to escape this number in parentheses. Could it be an issue of a different version of SQLite? Would adding parentheses this help any? Instead, I'll probably rewrite it using >= 0 but still I'd like to understand what's going on.

I'm having trouble with something that works in the Notepad example.

This code seems to work fine. But just to be clear, I ran the adb utility and run sqlite3 I inspected the schema as follows:

All seems good to me.
Now on to My App, which as far as I can see is basically the same with a few minor changes. I've simplified and simplified my code, but the problem persists.

When I run my app, I get a RuntimeException and the following prints in LogCat from my Log.e() statement:
LogCat Message: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: column '_id' does not exist
So, back to sqlite3 to see what's different about my schema:

I don't see how I'm missing the '_id'.
Can anyone point out what I've done wrong?
One thing that's different between my app and the Notepad example is that I started by creating my application from scratch using the Eclipse wizard while the sample app comes already put together. Is
there some sort of environmental change I need to make for a new app to use a sqlite database?

I'm not big into UI programming so this may be an easy thing I overlooked. I am trying have a screen that shows 8 TextView in a 2 column x 4 row table. And, of course, I want the TextViews, that might have different lengths, to be centered. I tried this in a table layout, for obvious reasons but I feel like this is not the way to do it because it doesn't have much control where I put everything once it is in a row. Should I be using a different combinations of layouts or is there something I overlooked.

This is an incredibly dumb question. So, apologies. But I can't find the answer anywhere and it's driving me nuts.
In DDMS, I have lost the tag column, i.e. the first part of the message from Log.d(tag, message). I can see time, log type, process id, and message - but not tag!
Anyone know how to get it back? I've tried right-clicking the columns, looking through the menus, etc - no joy.
