I'm seeing a strange issue on a phone and I'm trying to come up with a way to troubleshoot it to find out more.
Is it possible to access the X-Mms-Content-Location attribute of a message from a MMS message programatically, using the Android SDK?
This is one example of the error that I am investigating. If I can access that attribute, then I may be able to code an app which repairs it so the message retrieval succeeds.

I checked and loading up my maps application or another app that I've written that uses the location API finds me almost immediately - this, on the other hand, leaves me waiting forever without a single update. And yeah - I checked my permissions in AndroidManifest :)

I am trying to pass location data from my application to the Google Navigation API (No, not the browser). I can pass data to the dialer, and call a phone number successfully, but now wish to use the turn-by-turn navigation as an additional function. I have searched tirelessly through Android documentation, Google Maps API Documentation, and the web without luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction or hint how I can pass the service my data?

How can I check for GPS support in-App to add a feature for those with Location services enabled? My concern is, I know I'd have to specify the tag in the manifest to declare that the app uses location services, but I still want the app to function for those without. I just want to check and, if the service is available, use it; otherwise just ignore that one feature.

on my Nexus 4, it seems like the location is checked quite frequently by the phone, even if I'm not using an app that needs location, and even if the screen is off.
I don't want to turn off the Location Services, I just want my location to be obtained when I use Maps.
Anyway I can do that? I have already turned off location for Facebook and other annoying apps using App Ops. I basically don't want my location to be obtained when the screen is off.

I know there are many posts about location based widgets not working correctly (and I have read lots of them). Some people say they do and others say they don't work right. on my DI I can not get the Sense Weather/Clock to follow where I am currently (GPS on or off). Is it supposed to?? It would seem to me that it should be able to get a rough area based on what cell towers I'm hitting, but that doesn't work for anything. Every weather based widget I've tried works solely off GPS and when I am in my building at work there is no connecting to the GPS Sats. So before I go off on a tangent I'll ask my question(s). Should non-GPS location services work? Or does everything need GPS on and connected? I only have about a week left and I want to make sure that my phone is working correctly before my 30 days are up. This is the only frustrating thing I have found with the phone so far.

Android Central posted a FAQ for the Hero that linked to a post on their forums suggesting that this would speed up the Hero. I must have somehow missed this because it's the first I've ever heard about it.Anyone know if there's any truth to it?

I have a moment as I traded my Hero in to give it a try since my hero ended up with dead lines on the screen. For the life of me, I cannot get wireless or GPS location services to work.If I use wireless, google maps puts me somewhere over in China and if I try GPS, it never locks. In sprint nav with wireless, I am in Virgina (I'm in Michigan) and GPS never locks. I tried the trick I learned on the hero to disable wireless services until I get a GPS lock at least once, but even that didn't work.

I have a HTC One running JB 4.1.2. I am confused by the location settings available in various places in jelly bean. In my previous phone running gingerbread, all the location related settings were under 1 tab. In JB, its under various tabs and apps. I am wondering what purpose some of these settings cater to. I am listing all the location related settings available in JB 4.1 below:
1. settings > Accounts & Sync > Google > Location settings > Let Google apps access your location.I believe this setting has to be enabled for google services such as maps, google now, google+, etc. to function.
2. settings > Location > Google's location service the description is given as 'allows anonymous location data to be sent to google. Also allows permitted apps to use data from sources such as wifi and mobile networks to determine your approximate location.'
settings > Location >Location & Google search.Description: 'Location used to improve google search results and other google services'
3. Google maps > settings > location settings > Under background location reporting > Location reporting (has 3 options: automatically detect my location, update location manually, do not update location)
Google maps > settings > location settings > Under background location reporting > Report from this device. If you use the above location reporting option and use same username for multiple devices, on whichever device you select this option will only report location.
There are also other options under this setting like enable location sharing, enable location history, etc. From my research, i found out if you wish to use maps and like google search results tailored to your location, then 'Let Google apps access your location' and 'Location & Google search' setting need to be enabled. Also for information, i have disabled 'Location reporting' setting listed in No .3 by selecting 'do not update location' and also disabled all other location settings listed in No. 3. But it has not affected google maps, google search, weather, google news.
I wish to know what exactly 'Google's location service' setting listed in 2 and 'Location reporting' setting in 3 does. Which apps do they exist for? I am asking this because some of these location settings i have listed above appear to have similar functionality going by their description (though that would not be the case) and i wish to know the difference. I also wish to safely disable some of these settings to conserve battery but without affecting functionality of apps like maps, search, news, weather.

I went to drill today and most of the people in my unit has a droid x except one person has a droid 2. Well both did a speed test. He was at 2.4mb and I was at 1.3mb so im confused. We start looking through our settings to compare. He is on max battery saver with all location services on. Im on max performance with no location services on. So I turn on wireless network location services and retest. I get 2.2mb just like that. Does anyone know why it would make a difference? Also I noticed his reception was at- 70db while I was at- 82. Can anyone think of why he would have better reception than me?

Phone settings: Location : Battery Saving (GPS off, using Wifi/network location only)
On Google Play Services 4.0.x - I get very accurate location small circle around where my house is.
After updating to 4.2.25 - I get a large circle - maybe the radius of an entire block / surface area of a cell tower coverage roughly
Uninstall the update to play services (back to 4.0.x) - get very accurate location again.
I am using a RAZR HD with 4.4.2 kit kat / CM11.
Did play services update broke my specific phone?
I would stay on the older Play Services but Hangouts and Maps keep bitching about needing to update it.

After the update to Google Play Services v4.3 (latest version to date), Maps can't find location anymore without GPS, it remains stuck on "Waiting for location" despite having wifi or data on.When I revert back to Google Play Services v4.2, the issue disappears and Maps behaves again normally.
The problem is that I need the latest version of Google Play Services for streaming videos with my phone to Chromecast (and in any case, Google Play Services will auto update to the latest version).Any same issue with Google Play Services v4.3 ?

My Evo is saying I am in Deland, which is 25 minutes away from me. I have no idea why this is. It says it in my weather widegt and in my Where widget. It gives an exact address even.
My Google GPS still sees my location though.Anyone have any ideas why this would happen? And while I am at it, where in the settings do you turn off the intro music when you turn on the phone?

I have a problem since few days with sw HTC Locations ( I think is that).
Let me explain, often when I'm using the phone asks me to turn on the GPS because otherwise the navigator of Location does not work, when I do cancels and then get out, I came back after just 15 seconds and then continues with the same demands indefinitely.
I reset phone and I formatted the memory card , but now after reconfiguring the mobile phone presents itself to me again, what would it be?
I also checked with Kaspersky, but nothing found. That practically stops me using a mobile phone?

I'm looking for an app that'll help me find my phone via GPS without always having to have GPS enabled. I have Wave Secure and it doesn't have an option to turn my GPS on remotely, Lookout Mobile Security is the same way and Where's My Droid app requires GPS to be previously enabled.
The Internet location ability's accuracy within 200-1000ft radius doesn't seem useful if my phones stolen. I don't think walking from door to door, trying to listen in on each house for my alarm would work out too well.
Any app that could turn my GPS on remotely via codeword text or Internet site would be extremely useful.

I'm developing a mapping app using Eclipse 3.5.I'm setting the minimum update period with the LocationManager's requestLocationUpdates method, via a configuration activity. When I set the property I see in Logcat that the system process sets the value OK.When I actually send a new location from the DDMS emulator control and the location changes on the map view, I see that the system process then sets the minimum time to zero.Below is a capture of the system's log messages. You can see that I'm setting the period to 32 seconds, then 16, then, after I've sent a simulated location change the system sets it to zero. The map responds to location changes to location changes instantly even if they are sent only a couple of seconds apart.

In my application I have to fetch the current location. First it correctly fetches the location. But we are moving from the current location to some other location. It shows the previous address. It is not updating the location. My code is: locManager = (LocationManager)getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); locListener = new MyLocationListener();locManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager .GPS_PROVIDER ,0,0,locListener); location = locManager.getLastKnownLocation(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER);if(location != null){latitude = location.getLatitude();longitude = location.getLongitude();} Please find the mistake and when i launch first time it is not working on second time itself it is working so check this thing also.

I have an application which uses the network as the location provider (rather than GPS eg.), however I can't seem to figure out how to send the emulator test coordinates. In DDMS I would usually send coordinates in the Emulator Control tab.Is there a place to simulate coordinates derived from the cell phone network provider?

I figured out how to do that, but now I'm stuck because I dont know what Canvas to pass when I call the method drawMyLocation().

The way we are retrieving locations from our Android phones is to 1st get a Coarse Location followed by a Fine Location. This is for the case where the user may be inside a building initially and unable to track satellites. After we get our coarse location we transition to a fine location to track satellites. This method has been working fine for several months. We recently upgraded to 1.5 and our mapping application, to my recollection continued to work. For the past couple of days we have not been able to get a coarse location and we are receiving a status message in the onStatusChange callback of.We have re- installed previous versions our code that used 1.1 and we are receiving the same status message of .TEMPORARILY_UNAVAILABLE. Other than the obvious description of the constant, we can find no meaningful information.
