Android :: How To Refresh Screen So Space Gone?

Jun 6, 2010

I would like to make a Linear Layout that was created from xml invisible, and another Linear Layout visible to replace it. The replacement layout starts out as invisible. When I make the originally visible layout invisible, it still leaves space for it on the screen. How can I refresh the screen so that space is gone?

Android :: Way To Refresh An Activity / Map View Refresh Fails?

May 3, 2010

After implementing some Android Apps, including several Map activities, I try to refresh the activity when the GPS listener's onLocationChanged() mehtod is called. I have no idea how to tell the map activity to refresh on its own and display the new coords. the coords to store will have to be in global values, so that the location listener will have access to it. In my sample GPS-class (see code below) I just changed the text of a text view....but how to do that in map view?

Android :: Use Gl.gluUnproject In OpenGL ES 1.1 Phone App To Know What Is Touched In 3D Space From Screen

How do I use gl.gluUnproject in my OpenGL ES 1.1 android app to determine what is selected when the user touches the screen?

My understanding is that the touch event results in a line and I have to find the first "thing" it intersects with.

Are there any tutorials on how to do this?

Android :: Using Layout Includes With Layouts That Are Greedy - Want To Take Entire Screen Space

Jul 31, 2009

I would like to use an <include /> in my XML file to add a layout below a MapView(or any other greedy layout). I have been trying for a few hours now, and no luck so far. I was hoping someone could give me a hand.

Here is what my XML looks like now:

CODE:...................

Optimally, the include could be any sort of other layout. The goal here is to have the Google map on the top, and then have the included layout below it. If I include the content in the layout, such as replacing the <include /> tag with a <TextView /> then that works correctly, so I am thinking I am mis-using the include. A trip to hierarchy viewer shows that the included layout has no height. I have tried putting the include first, and using a RelativeLayout to position the map above the included layout, but I could not get that to work correctly (the included layout took the entire screen space, even though I explicitly said layout_height='wrap_content'

Android :: Webview Adds Extra Horizontal Space In Screen / Disable This Navigation?

Oct 15, 2010

I'm using webview to display local html content. The text fits the screen width, but the user is able to navigate horizontally where there is only blank space left. However, there is no content to be shown as everything fits the screen size. Does anyone know how can I avoid this behavior? I mean, if all content is being show, how can I disable horizontal navigation.

General :: Soft Buttons Taking Space On Screen

Oct 30, 2013

So I ordered now LG G2 32GB (950USD in Israel, I know its expensive but well... thats what it is and I wanted a device with large screen, powerfull multi tasking and something that I wont have to replace in 1 year but at least in 2 years, super power little computer for all my internet, emails, mult tasking, office things...), I could choose Z Ultra, S4, Optimus G Pro but took G2 as most people online voted for this one and I heard them plus I liked the way this device looks from all photos I watched and I liked it's longer life per each charge versus others (from reviews i was reading).

Now something I feel bothered with, I see on youtube that this soft menu buttons stays even in games, pretty much anywhere.Removing the on-screen menu buttons possibly also not the brightest idea, how I will navigate then? Any tweak would allow me to use Android in same way I use Iphone, by turn the "power" button that short click works as "home button" and remove the soft on screen menu.

UPDATE: I found this URL....

can i totally hide the soft buttons from screen so they NEVER appear and use only the LMT pie buttons?URL.....

HTC Incredible :: Home Screen Space Saver W/ Time & Weather

Jul 30, 2010

I have always been a little uncomfortable with the HTC widget on the home screen that took a large 2x4 block (2 rows x 4 columns) out of the home screen to display the time and weather.. especially because I wanted a few more apps to be displayed on my home screen that I regularly use..

So I removed the HTC clock widget that displayed the large 4x4 clock and weather and instead dropped the HTC clock widget that is 1x2 (5 of the 12 choices available in that widget).. and the HTC weather widget right next to it (or even below it).. which is also a 1x2 size..(choice 3 of 3 in that widget)..

so I basically get the same information with regards to time and weather..and I also end up saving 1 row, which can be filled with 4 additional apps.

Another tip: Instead of using the HTC favorites widget to peg your favorite people to call a touch away.. use the shortcut/add person to peg them on screen. The favorite widget takes a lot more space especially when you don't fill it up.

Samsung Moment :: Notification "Low On Space Phone Storage Space Is Getting Low"

Dec 16, 2009

Had my Samsung Moment for about a month. LOVE IT. Few issues (same as everyone else has noticed), but nothing terrible. Until: Randomly today TWO Notifications popped up that said "Low on space Phone storage space is getting low." One was what seemed to be from the "hardware" and the other was from the "Work Mail" app (which I don't use, haven't used, haven't even opened). When I click it, it takes me to the Manager screen. So, I began uninstalling some apps I don't really use (I didn't have that many anyway...a couple of games [Solitaire, etc], Facebook, Notes). It started running really slowly and random Force Close messages would appear for things like android.process, messaging--things that have never Force Closed before. I turned it off (pressed and held the red button), waited a few seconds, then turned it back on again. Immediately after the "Sprint" logo lights show finished, I got another Force Close message. When the Home Screen showed up, I had the two notifications again "Low on space". When I cleared the notifications, only the "Work Mail" one would clear. I went through and deleted some more apps that I don't use. Got on my computer & Googled the issue. Found a couple of random forums that suggested cleaning out the Cache in the Browser. I did that. Cleaned the History & Cookies in the Browser, too. Then, I did a soft reset (took out the battery). Started it up again, SAME notifications. Less Force Close messages. But, it's running VERY slowly.

After a few hours, I noticed that I hadn't received any text messages or Gmail notifications. I had my sister text me about 2 hours ago. Still have not received it.
I really don't want to hard reset. I haven't synced my contacts (I have over 400 & the Sprint store had trouble moving them from my Centro to the Moment) to Google yet, nor have I hooked my Moment up to my Mac yet (the Sprint guys had no idea if it would work or not with Snow Leopard & I hadn't had time to check yet) and I'm worried to try it now that my Moment has gone crazy...I really don't want to lose 400 contacts.I don't download a lot of apps. Most are reputable (Pandora, MotherTED, Shazam, Movies, Jewels). The last one I remember downloading was Google Voice three days ago (which I haven't really used because I've had the flu). I don't know if this is a Malware/Virus issue or if I'm just an idiot & did something wrong. But, it's running REALLY slowly right now. Still not receiving texts or emails (though my Twitter app has notified me of a couple of @ replies).I'm going to call Sprint & Samsung tomorrow, then go to a Sprint tech store if they can't help. But, I'm just hoping one of you have come across this & can help before I have to deal with hours of hold music & techies who tell me to soft reset over & over again.

BTW:
After awhile, I finally checked the storage space:
External SD care: Total: 1.89; Available: 1.85
Internal: About 2 hours ago when I first checked, after I had deleted a bunch of apps it said I had 7.something MB, now (after not downloading ANYTHING or barely even TOUCHING the damn thing) it says 1.95MB. Which leads me to believe that the 7.whatever was not necessarily accurate.

HTC Incredible :: "Low On Space" Message Even Though There's Plenty Of Space Left

Aug 3, 2010

On Sunday I started getting the message "Low on space Phone Storage space is getting low." on the status bar. When I tap it, I'm taken to the "Manage Applications" screen, so it's clear that the message refers to the "Phone Memory," where apps are stored But when I go to Settings > SD card & phone storage here's what I see:
SD Card Total Space: 14.83GB
SD Card Available Space: 6.15GB
Internal Phone Storage Total Space: 6.60GB
Internal Phone Storage Available Space: 6.51GB
Phone Memory Total Space: 748MB
Phone Memory Available Space: 332MB
I've googled looking for solutions and it's obvious that this is a fairly common problem - especially on HTC phones. But the only possible solutions I've found are:
Too many apps are installed & space really is running low
A "bad" app was recently installed causing this error
Clear the cache for HTC Mail and HTC Message apps
Perform a Factory Reset We can rule this out since there is more than 44% of the Phone Memory available.
I didn't install any apps immediately before getting the message, but to be sure I uninstalled the 10 most recently added apps. No luck.
I've gone to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, but the cache for these apps is already zero. The "Data" for Mail is 2.22MB and for Messages is 812KB.
This isn't fixing the problem, it's just a way to eliminate whatever condition has caused the symptom. But without an explanation of the actual problem I see no reason to think the problem won't come back in another two months.

Android :: Way To Get App Drawer To Refresh?

Oct 27, 2010

I've got a bunch of live wallpapers for sale, and have a lot of 1-star comments that just say "Doesn't open". This is because there's no launcher activity, so the open button is greyed out after download. I'm attempting to fix this by including an activity that explains what to do, and I'm trying to avoid useless app clutter by disabling that activity once they've successfully used the wallpaper. This seems to work fine, the problem is the app icon doesn't go away right away. It stays in the app drawer and if you tap it you get a "this has been disabled" message. Eventually it will be removed if the phone is rebooted or if the home app is restarted. I'd like to clean this up. Is there a way to tell Home to refresh this list, or to otherwise tell it to remove the icon from the listing? It seems a bit rude to process kill Home for this purpose, and clearly something like this happens when an app is installed/ uninstalled.

Android :: Refresh Layout While Filling It

Jul 8, 2010

I have an activity with a HorizontalScrollView. When it opens, I start filling this view (or rather, a container layout inside it) with another views. This is done from another thread by using handler.post.

The views are added in bunches of 15, and when there are no more views to add, I start updating them with new data (this is a kind of streaming data from a server).

The problem is that the scrollview is empty until all of the views are added. As soon as they are all added and start updating, the scrollview gets drawn.

How do I refresh it in the process of adding views? I don't want the screen to be empty for 3 seconds while all of the views are added.

Android :: Refresh StateListDrawable Missing Something

Aug 26, 2010

I have a strange problem with StateListDrawable or maybe (probably) I'm missing something. I created a test application for it and the same problem occurs. So, this is my StateListDrawable resourse in file test_selection.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/ android"> <item android:state_selected="true"> <shape android:shape="rectangle" android:background="#ff0000"> <corners android:radius="10dp" /> <gradient android:startColor="#ff5555" android:endColor="#ff5555" android:angle="0" /> </shape> </item> <item android:state_selected="false"> <shape android:shape="rectangle" android:background="#eeeeee"> <corners android:radius="10dp" /> <gradient android:startColor="#eeeeee" android:endColor="#eeeeee" android:angle="0" /> </shape>.............................

When Activity starts I try to set the state of my Drawable (the StateListDrawable) with the value SELECTED. It seems all very simple.... but the problem is that the state is not shown. If, later, I click a button and execute the method updateView() the state changes. Where is my problem? Where am I wrong?

Android :: REST And Listviews Refresh?

Jul 22, 2010

In my app, I have different activities with listviews. The datas come from a server with a REST method, and it's only done once, when I start the application.

The pattern that I'd like to set is to precharge all the listviews with the JSONs that I already have in local, and in parallel, launch a thread that get the new JSONs files with my REST methods, and then update the listviews.

For now, when I start the app, I parse my JSONs files, and build all the lists of objects. I access them later in a static way, from my lists adapters.

So I would like to know the best way to launch this REST thread, and update the listview. Should I use AsyncTask ? A service ? and then, when I update my local JSONs, I have to re-parse them, updates the lists of object, and call in my adapters NotifyDataChanged ?
