Android :: How To Fill Elements In List View Programmatically?

Nov 16, 2009

I have a ListView with an adapter extending BaseAdapter.I create a view (from a LinearLayout and I put some items ont it depending on some parameters. I have a textview, with a drawable and sometime another textview next to the drawable in this horizontal linearlayout. For some reason, this command doesn't seems to work. So when my textview doesn't fill the full width of the list, I can only click on the part of the elements with the widget on it. I have try playing a lot with the layout and I can't get this to work. The parameters seems to be ignore all together. Only hack that would work I found was to set a big minimum width on my linearlayout but I don't think that's the best solution.

Android :: List View Elements With Multiple Clickable Buttons

Nov 10, 2009

I've a ListView where every element in the list contains a TextView and two different Buttons.I found a solution as described in my answer below. Now I can click/tap the button via the touch screen. However, I can't manually select it with the trackball. It always selects the whole list item and from there goes directly to the next list item ignoring the buttons, even though I set .setFocusable(true) and setClickable (true) for the buttons in getView().This causes that no list item is selectable at all any more. But it didn't help in making the nested buttons selectable.

Android :: List View Elements In Dialogs Never Expand To Full Width

Mar 31, 2009

I am rendering a ListView inside a dialog. The ListView elements are very simple TextView objects. The problem: whatever I do, they never take the full width in the list view, which has the side effect that the list view selector only covers the actual text, not the whole list entry (i.o.w., if the text of the entry is much smaller than the width of the listview/dialog, then only a tiny portion of the list element is highlighted when focusing it).

Android :: Click In List View Item Changes Status Of Elements Inside Item?

I don't know exactly how to explain this problem, but I'll try. I have a ListView with several items. Each item has inside a TextView and two ImageView. I want the ImageView change when I click on them, and I want to open a context menu when I press for a long time into the ListView item. For the ImageView, everything works properly. For the whole item, I can show the context menu after a long press, but my problem is that the ImageView changes as well when I am pressing the TextView, for example.I hope you understand my problem. I think that all the children of a view are affected by an event in the parent, but I am not sure.

Android :: Multi Column Custom List View / With Editable Edit Text At End Of List View

Nov 3, 2010

I am on Android 2.1 and I have one multi column Custom listview Using BaseAdapter with an editable edittext at the end of the listview. If the data in the listview do not contain the data of user choice then user should be able to enter data. If the data is already there in the list user will be able to select the data using custom selector. If a selection is made in the list view and user wanted to enter data in the text field at the bottom after selection then the marker in the list view should be unselected. I tried to use onclick() method on edit text using click listener. First time when it is clicked, edit text is getting focus and onclick() method is not fired. And when it is clicked second time, onclick() method is fired and notifyDataSetChanged() method is called. I tried to call the notifyDataSetChanged() method from the Focus Listener, list view selection is gone in my first attempt and edit text is not receiving any data input from the keyboard (frozen).

Android :: Check If The View Is Visible On The Window

Sep 4, 2010

What's the best way to check if the view is visible on the window?

I have a CustomView which is part of my SDK and anybody can add CustomView to their layouts. My CustomView is taking some actions when it is visible to the user periodically. So if view becomes invisible to the user then it needs to stop the timer and when it becomes visible again it should restart its course.

But unfortunately there is no certain way of checking if my CustomView becomes visible or invisible to the user. There are few things that I can check and listen to: onVisibilityChange, it is for view's visibility change, and is introduced in new API 8 version so has backward compatibility issue onWindowVisibilityChange, but my CustomView can be part of a ViewFlipper's Views so it can pose issues onDetachedFromWindows, this not as useful onWindowFocusChanged //Again my CustomView can be part of ViewFlipper's views. So if anybody has faced this kind of issues please throw some light.

Android :: Activity Of Killed Process Still Visible In List After Home Pressed

Sep 23, 2010

like many others, I want to kill my Android application on "exit" button. Really kill, not just move to background and stop all active code. (I know very well that Android does not like it.) I found Process.killProcess(Process.myPid()); and System.exit(0) which both work fine (I have no problem with activity stack, the "exit" button is in my base Activity.). But there is a problem. When I kill my process and I am back in the shell, I press [Home] button. It shows list of applications that are on the background including my application which has been killed.

Is there a way how to do both: 1) kill the process and 2) remove it from the Android application list that is shown after user presses [Home] button? Thanks for all replays (with the exception of that stupid "you should not exit applications explicitly on Android"

Android :: Graphically Represent Multiple List Selections / Dynamically Change List Item View

Apr 23, 2010

I'm trying to create a multiple selection list where the selection is represented graphically rather than with checkboxes. My list has checkboxes, but I want them to serve a different purpose. I'm using a cursor to hold my data and created a custom view binder for the SimpleCursorAdapter. I did this for the checkboxes and general flexibility. So far I haven't even been able to show one line as being selected. I've enabled multiple selection on the list and denied the children of the list item focusability. I've tried manually changing background color with the position fed in through the list item click listener. But the wrong items get changed and they don't even change to the right color. I've enabled touch focusability with no improvement either.Ideally, I'd like the trackball highlight focus bar to appear in multiple places. But I don't think this is possible unless you use the drawable directly. But I don't know how to find or apply it. My next idea was to have a slim view bar that changes color. But I had the same problem with the wrong item being selected so I never finished trying to guess the index position to see if this would work. My most recent idea is to completely swap out the view for another one if it's selected. But I have no idea how to do this either. I'm thinking of using an array list to store the _id s of the items that need a different view to get around the wierd selection problem. I'm also thinking of passing in the ID field as my from and the selection view as the to for my adapter. Then I'd intercept it with my binder and change the view accordingly. But once again, I'm not sure how to do this successfuly.
