Android :: How To Place Widgets Above And Below A Listview?
Mar 16, 2010
I have a list view and want to put stuff both above(on the y axis) and below(y axis) it including images, text views, and a row of buttons. Below is a simplified version of what I am creating. Unfortunately the list covers(i.e. above on the z axis) the header so the header text is not visible instead of being underneath (on the y axis)

- 2 input boxes where the user can enter criteria to search for - 1 search button - when the search button is clicked, a search is performed and on the same page the matches are shown *below* the 2 input boxes and search button. - the results can be quite a few (say up to 50), which won't fit all on the viewable part of the screen, so the user has to be able to scroll down in the results. - when the user scrolls down over the results, the 2 input boxes + search button should of course also scroll up out of sight.
Basically the behaviour you get when you for example do a google search on google.com. But, for clarity: I don't want to use the WebView. Note that there should be no scrollbar for the results only (that can be done easily with a standard ListView), the all needs to scroll as a whole. The reason I want this behavior is that I don't want to direct the user to a next screen with the search results; that would be so annoying having to go back to the "search" screen all the time if you want to enter another search criteria, like if you figured out you made a typo.............................

I found some documentation that said for the 1.5 pre api that ScrollView and ListView are not supported. I used ListViews in my aHome widgets. Does anyone know if there is a way to scroll content in the new Cupcake widgets? I believe there might be a way to scroll plain text, but I need to scrol images as well as text.
I also found this list in an earlier posting to the list: supported Views are: AbsoluteLayout AnalogClock Button Chronometer FrameLayout ImageButton ImageView LinearLayout ProgressBar RelativeLayout TextView
Are these components still the only ones supported?

When I try to launch market place with id of an application say com.mybrowser.android by throwing an intent android.intent.action.VIEW with url: market://details?id=com.mybrowser.android, the market place application does launches but crashes after launch.
Note: the application com.mybrowser.android doesn't exists in the market-place.
MyApplication is my application.

I'm new to Android application development and I'm currently experimenting with various UI ideas. In the image below, you can see a vertically scrolling list of horizontally scrolling galleries (and also textviews as you can see). I'm also doing some matrix and camera transformations which I will come to in a minute.
For the background of the list elements, I use green. Blue is the background of the galleries, and red is the background for the images. These are just for my benefit of learning.
The galleries being used are extended classes where I overrode the drawChild method to perform a canvas scale operation in order for the image closest to the center (width) to be larger than the others. The list view going vertically, I overrode the drawChild method and used the camera rotations from lack of depth dimension in the canvas functionality. The items in the list are scaled down and rotated relative to their position's proximity to the center (height).............

There must be a way to do this. How can you tell a ListView that has a header to not scroll it when the user scrolls the contents? I want it to stay in a "stuck" position so that the user can always see what column the content applies to.

I know that the Android Market detects and supports in-place upgrades of apps. I know that using developer tools, you can do in-place upgrades of apps. Suppose, though, that you are distributing your APK through other means, whether it be a third-party market (e.g., AndAppStore, SlideME), or just via your own Web site. How do you do in-place upgrades? Is it just a matter of downloading the new APK and telling Android to install it, or is there some other magic that is needed?

Can we place a small view over another large view? For example, i have a VideoView which is playing a file in the background. Over this, somewhere in the middle/corner, I want to place another ImageView.
But in Linear/Relative Layout, views can be placed only one after another or relativ to each other. And Absolutelayout is advised against. So what do I do?
