Has anyone made the phone silent from code? Is there any permission needed? I am using this method, but it's doing nothing:

So I downloaded Tasker and created a profile that's supposed to silence my phone when it's plugged in at night, and it almost works. Tasker says the profile is active and I can see the "silent" icon in the notification bar, but texts and emails still make noise. As far as I can tell, Silent Mode is also supposed to silence notifications, but it's not working for me. I'm using Handcent SMS and Gmail.

I am trying to create something similar to Blackberry Messengers "PING" function. I want certain people to be able to make my phone vibrate even if I have placed the phone on silent mode. I have tried to use Setting Profiles to do this, by creating a profile (let's call it "Profile1") that turns on notification vibrations. I also created a rule that would activate Profile1 if I received a text message from someone containing the phrase "PING".
But when I test this out, the Profile1 never activates. As I've messed around with the rule, I've also tried having the rule activate based on the receipt of any text message (i.e., leaving the "*" in the contents field), and that does not work either. Any suggestions for those of you familiar with setting profiles, or if you know of another application? I have an EVO 4G.

I will turn the sound back on and then all of a sudden it's off after a couple of hours for no apparent reason. Is it possible to turn the phone on silent but still have the alarm go off in the morning? I was able to do this with my env touch. I would just set it to "alarm only" for the volume setting.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy phone has a really annoying habit. Every night before I go to sleep. I switch it to silent mode. But if a call or a text message comes through overnight it vibrates. The next morning I find that the phone is now in vibrate mode. I did have Foxy Ring installed, although it was not activated. I wondered whether it could have anything to do with this, but I've now removed it from the phone, but the irritating behaviour persists. Short of turning the phone off overnight, how can I get a quiet night's sleep?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI got my Inc about 2 months ago and at first I thought this was just a fluke, but it's happening all the time. Basically, if my phone is sitting flat on my desk and I get a call, the phone will ring for about a second before going silent. It still vibrates and still wants me to answer the call, but the ringtones have stop.
I even experienced this today driving in to work. The phone was sitting on my leg when I got a call. Same problem. Rang for a second and then silent. If I am holding it or it's in my pocket, it seems to ring without any problems. That "silent ring on pickup" or whatever option in the settings is not selected and I don't believe I have any sort of app installed that controls the volume of the phone.
I've noticed that my notifications were sporadic, both from e-mail and messages. I think I even missed a call once and was surprised because I never heard it ring/vibrate. After some testing I think I've figured out that when the phone is in my pocket, and I'm sitting at my office desk, the phone is face down in that same, fairly flat level position, that turns the ringer off if you flip your phone over on a desk while in a meeting. Is there any way to turn this feature off?
View 28 Replies View RelatedLast week I downloaded and installed the file for the 2.2 update, the FRG01B or whatever.
Since then:
- I cannot put my phone on silent. It will only go down to vibrate.
- Battery life has diminished. Went from lasting on average I'd say about 26 hours or so to now about 20.
- Some text messages don't go through to people I send to, and some sent to me don't come until much much later.
Now that I'm reading that the actual OTA update that is being pushed out again today is the same as what I forced last week, I'm beginning to consider just going back down to 2.1 so I don't have these issues.
Let's see if those of you with the "Silent Bug" in 2.1 have apps in common

But the problem I have is even when I set my phone to silent or vibrate it still has and audible ring. Email and other notifications are silent but the ring isnt. I use home++ and stock home and it does the same thing. I can set it to silent using the stock silent or using ringer widgets. I will try anything, Ive had way to many embarrassing moments with Chris Brown playing during quiet time.

I hate this, because at work (in a spa) I keep my purse in my cabinet, and I don't love for it to play a bunch of sounds when it is supposed to be on silent. At roughly 9:00, the phone will then change itself to Silent mode without me doing anything.The only thing I can think of is that I used to use the app "Settings Profiles" to do changes for me automatically. I wasnt crazy about it though so Ive uninstalled it. The program no longer shows up for me so I dont think thats the problem.
