Sep 28, 2010Is it possible to create a view that is bigger than the screen? I need a view that has a bigger width then the screen of the device. I use this view in a rotation animation. During the rotation the parts that were not on the screen before animating the view will become visible.
Is there a way to achieve this effect with the android framework?
I tried to set my parent layout much bigger then the screen and it is working. This will make somethings a little bit uncomfortable but it could work. The next problem now is that my layout still starts at the left side of the screen. I can't think of a method to make the layout to expand itself to the left and the right of the screen.

Oct 29, 2010I'm trying to create a MapView in a service (live wallpaper), but have it hidden so that I can render it to a Bitmap, and then map it to a texture to render in opengl. I have a Canvas and a Bitmap, and I intended to call myMap.draw(myCanvas) in order to get it into the correct bitmap so that I could then bind it as a texture.
When I Initialize I do the following:
myMap = new MapView(ctx, APPSTATICS.MAP_API_KEY);
I get an error:
java.lang.RuntimeException: stub at com.google.android.maps.MapView.<init> (Unknown Source)

The problem I met is that sometimes the http get requests got response code -1 from HttpURLConnection getResponseCode() call. I don't know whether it is caused by multiple threadpool instances.

Mar 23, 2009I want to have multiple listviews in my activity. Every listview will have a different adapter and every item in the listview must be clickable (other actions for every listview).
So my problem now is that I can't create multiple clickable listviews. I have one listview like this <ListView android:id="@android:id/ list".. and the other listview looks like this <ListView android:id="@+id/ flightList"
The first listview looks like this in my activity hotelList = (ListView)findViewById(android.R.id.list);
the second: listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.flightList);
I can click on the first list and it does what it has to do, but i cant do anything with the second list.. probably because it hasn't the android:id/list declaration. does someone knows how I can solve this problem or other suggestions how I can get multiple lists in 1 activity.

This allows me to start the Activity fine. However when I call it for a second it just returns to the Activity already created rather than creating a new Activity and placing it on the stack.
I would like to be able to create the activity multiple times so that I have two or 3 Activities on the stack and the user can switch between them, using Home, Back buttons etc... Is this possible and if so what am I doing wrong?

Jul 29, 2010Specifically, I'm curious about how they did the phone number entry part, where they can add additional phone numbers fields when the user clicks the little add button. I initially thought that was done with a ListView, and I got a ListView to work, but the ListView scrolls independently of the rest of the screen, which looks bad.
So I was wondering what the best approach for something like that is? Am I on the right track with the ListView and just missing something allowing me keep it from behaving like it's own scrollable container? Perhaps a custom AdapterView or maybe just with a TableLayout dynamically adding rows? I'm just not sure what would work the best.

I tried the following approaches but each of them has one shortcoming or the other:
1. Add TextView and ExpandableListViews to a linearlayout. The problem with this approach is that LinearLayout by default is unscrollable.
Adding the LinearLayout to a ScrollableView creates even more issues because ListViews handle their own scrolling behavior.
2. I tried using a single ExpandableListView to model the above layout but the problem is that setGroupIndicator applies to the entire ExpandableListView, not a specific group.

Nov 19, 2010Were looking into Android for writing a tablet based system. Part of the design is for the system to be as modular as possible. One aspect of this is to display any "STATUS" activities in a side view on the screen. It looks like I can use PackageManager queryIntentActivities() to find the activities that show status information. But, can I display these in a single view all at the same time (via a linear layout)? The activities would be installed in separate apk's (features). Can this be accomplished using ActivityGroup? Is this even allowed in Android? Everything I've read implies that Activities take the whole screen or float on top. This implies only one activity can be active at a time where as the design I'm thinking of uses the activities more like widgets.

Aug 21, 2009I am writing a program where I need a ListView for which I am using a ListActivity. Each one of the views within the ListView has four buttons, (Off, Dim, Bright and On). Each one of these buttons is configured with it's own OnClickListener when I build the view. This part seems to work ok. However when I have say 5 Views each which has these four buttons, I can tell whether an off, dim, bright or on button was pressed but I cannot tell from which view it was pressed. So for example if my views are devices (Light, Heater and Kettle) I press an "on" button and I know an On button was pressed but how do I get it to tell me the On button for the Light was pressed?

Now I want each view to have 2 TextView's and 1 CheckBox, somewhat similar to the List3 example. I tried creating a custom layout file row.xml like this:

The result kind of looks like what I want, but it looks like the list doesn't know which item of it is selected. Also, I need to click exactly on the checkbox. In the List11 example, I only need to click on the item row.
