Android :: How To Use Androids To Create Custom View Class?

Aug 15, 2010

I am using a custom class based off RelativeLayout but it obviously doesn't render in the Eclipse layout editor. I have found this article regarding LayoutInflater.Factory and it sounds like what I need to be doing but I can find no guides to using LayoutInflater.Factory.
http://www.macadamian.com/blog/post/android_-_custom_classes_from_xml_layout/

Could anyone help with exactly what and where I do this? I understand what is said in the article, but need specifics on where to declare, hook, whatever the Factory. In case it is helpful, here is the complete console output from when I try to view main.xml in Layout view..

Android :: Best Way To Create A Custom View For Every List Item?

Nov 4, 2010

As I am reviewing and prototyping my android project, I noticed that there is a view that has a list of items that are very customized. I have figured out most of my tools that I plan to use but I need some advice.

I have a list of items which can contain photos, some text to the right, an image to the bottom and more text below that. Very confusing I know. Each of these might be present for an item. The only thing that will always be there is the title.

So my question - what is the best way to create each custom list item view? I am thinking I have to use this getView to create each view. But when creating each view, is it best to 1) create a view dynamically and adding an image, for example, if it exists, or 2) create an xml file with all possible elements and hide them depending on the item?

Android :: Custom View Extending View-Class / Still Based On XML-Layout

Aug 17, 2010

I want to build my own custom view which should look like the Crysis-GUI.At first I designed a XML-based Layout and made it visible via the setContentView(int resid)-Method. Worked pretty well.But now I wan't to go a step further and draw in my Layout. So I created a new Class, let it extend View and overrode the onDraw()-Method. So far so good.But how can I still use my XML-Layout? I can't do setContentView anymore, so how could the same effect be achieved?

Android :: Multi Column Custom List View / With Editable Edit Text At End Of List View

Nov 3, 2010

I am on Android 2.1 and I have one multi column Custom listview Using BaseAdapter with an editable edittext at the end of the listview. If the data in the listview do not contain the data of user choice then user should be able to enter data. If the data is already there in the list user will be able to select the data using custom selector. If a selection is made in the list view and user wanted to enter data in the text field at the bottom after selection then the marker in the list view should be unselected. I tried to use onclick() method on edit text using click listener. First time when it is clicked, edit text is getting focus and onclick() method is not fired. And when it is clicked second time, onclick() method is fired and notifyDataSetChanged() method is called. I tried to call the notifyDataSetChanged() method from the Focus Listener, list view selection is gone in my first attempt and edit text is not receiving any data input from the keyboard (frozen).

Android :: How Create View Like The Default Android EditContact View

Jul 29, 2010

Specifically, I'm curious about how they did the phone number entry part, where they can add additional phone numbers fields when the user clicks the little add button. I initially thought that was done with a ListView, and I got a ListView to work, but the ListView scrolls independently of the rest of the screen, which looks bad.

So I was wondering what the best approach for something like that is? Am I on the right track with the ListView and just missing something allowing me keep it from behaving like it's own scrollable container? Perhaps a custom AdapterView or maybe just with a TableLayout dynamically adding rows? I'm just not sure what would work the best.

Android :: Style Own Styleable With A Style - Custom View Class With Custom Attribute

Jul 8, 2009

I'm creating my own View class, and defining custom xml attributes with a attrs.xml. As long as I provide each attribute manually, there is no problem, but

code:...................

The android:text is properly set in my instance, but the borderDrawable is not. I guess this has something to do with namespaces, because inside the styles.xml, the name="mypack:borderDrawable" is not handled by the XML parser's namespace facility, because its inside an attribute value. So "mypack" is in no way connected to "http://some.weird.url.com/seems/not/to/ matter" and adding it via xmlns:mypack... to the stylefile would not help, I guess. In the same file, "android:text" is somehow recognized, even though "android" is AFAIK only a ns-defintion for [url], which is also not declared in that file.

So what is the proper way to set a custom attribute in a style?

Android :: Create Custom Component Using Inflate

Mar 29, 2010

I'm trying to create a component using an xml layout file. I defined a layout with some custom attributes. This layout is inflated when user add it inside another layout. My problem is I don't know the parent, so I pass null for the parent viewgroup when I call inflate method. I think that's the reason why I see anything in my view. Do you know how can I do (I don't want to redefine onDraw method because I use existing component). Below my xml layout and my custom class.

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<ImageView android:id="@+id/img_btn_option" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>

android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_toRightOf="@id/img_btn_option"
android:textColor="@color/font_white" android:textStyle="bold"/>
</RelativeLayout> public class ButtonOptionsView extends View {
public ButtonOptionsView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
super(context, attrs);
LayoutInflater li =(LayoutInflater)context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
RelativeLayout vg =(RelativeLayout)li.inflate(R.layout.button_option, null);
