Android :: How To Create A Sqlite Dist Db Function

Feb 28, 2010

We are building an Android App that will use user's current location (lat, long) and show top 50 venues around the current location, sorted by distance. We have these venues stored in an SQLite DB. We plan to ship with the sqlite DB with the app.In order to fetch only the relevant top 50 closest venues, we want to define a db function DIST (to calculate distance between two points) and use it in our query. How can I define a custom SQLite function for Android Apps? What will be the Java API call to do this?We have successfully implemented this approach in our iPhone App - using Objective C.

Android :: Create A WebView Object In The OnCreate Function

Apr 18, 2010

I create a WebView object in the OnCreate function. Now I need to be able to pass this same object to other functions in the code, such as the onOptionsItemSelected function. I currently have it where I just create a new WebView object in each function where I need it, but this slows down the code since it has to recreate it and such.

Android :: Create A Bitmask Parameter For A Function / Method?

Apr 30, 2010

I noticed a lot of Android functions have a parameter that you can pass in that's a bitmask, for different options, like on PendingIntent, you can pass in things like you can call getActivity() with PendingIntent.FLAG_CANCEL_CURRENT|PendingIntent.FLAG_NO_CREATE.

I'm wondering how I can create a function that has a parameter like this?

Android :: How To Use SQLite Database? (Create / Open)

Apr 18, 2010

I am trying to use

SQLiteDatabase.openDatabase( "/data/data/edwin11.myapp/databases/myapp.db", null, (SQLiteDatabase.CREATE_IF_NECESSARY | SQLiteDatabase.NO_LOCALIZED_COLLATORS));

To create/open a database instead of making use of the SQLiteOpenHelper (because I want to pass in the flag SQLiteDatabase.NO_LOCALIZED_COLLATORS. However, I am getting this exception for that line of code:

04-18 09:50:03.585: ERROR/Database(3471): sqlite3_open_v2("/data/data/edwin11.myapp/databases/myapp.db", &handle, 6, NULL) failed

04-18 09:50:03.665: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(3471): at android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase.openDatabase(SQLiteDatabase.java:638)...

Doing some testing just before that line of code (using File.isExists) shows that the file /data/data/edwin11.myapp/databases/myapp.db does not exist. Would that be the cause of the error? (Or am I just using SQLiteDatabase.openDatabase the wrong way?) Would it help if I create the file beforehand? (Shouldn't that be taken care of by the SQLiteDatabase.CREATE_IF_NECESSARY flag that I passed in?) If creating the file manually is the way to go, is it just an empty file, or do I have to write something to it?

Nov 4, 2009

I want to create a sqlite database by importing data from some data files, like csv etc., and then put this database into one of my android application and then deploy into the Android device.

By now the samples and tutorial what I found are all taliking about creating the sqlite database at runtime when running the android application on the device. Is there anyway I can create it offline and then attach it to my application later?

Any tools and docs for this?

Android :: Create Clickable On Icon In Status Bar To Run Function / Method / Code

Sep 3, 2010

I have placed an icon on the status bar. I would like to run a method of another class whenever the user selects that icon. I've seen similar functionality used in volume icons that sit on the status bar that allow a user to raise or lower the volume when the icon is clicked. However, these icons are on the right side of the status bar, and from what I've seen, I'm not allowed to put an icon there. I don't know if that kind of functionality is available to left side icons. So basically, I'm looking for how to run a function when a status bar icon is clicked. I don't want to open an activity, I just want to run a function.

. build/envsetup.sh
lunch aokp_p3113-userdebug
make -j4 dist

I got the following error messages:

device/moto/stingray/recovery/recovery_ui.cpp:22:20: fatal error: device.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated.
make: *** [out/target/product/p3113/obj/STATIC_LIBRARIES/librecovery_ui_stingray_intermediates/recovery_ui.o] Error 1

By the way, I don't need to build OTA package.

Android : Create A Sqlite Database That I Can Manually Input Data From My Computer

Nov 30, 2009

I have certain needs that I am having trouble making an app for. I was hoping to be able to create a sqlite database that I can manually input data from my computer and search the data on my droid. I wanted to set up tags or full data search within each sqlite database object so and pull up a listing of best matches for the given search term.

The use for it is that I work on an Air Force Base and my job is very broad. I wanted to custom build an app that I could list all of the information pertaining to my job and be able to search it as I work to find solutions to problems way quicker than we are doing it now.

Is there any such app. I've been trying to create my own and it looks like it would be a mix between notepad and searchable dictionary but not quite.

Android :: Trying To Use New Reboot Function _ Bug?

Aug 10, 2010

I'm trying to use the new reboot function defined here: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/PowerManager.html#r. but I'm running into permissions issues even though I have the REBOOT permission in my manifest: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.REBOOT" /> The error I see in logcat is: E/Android Runtime( 5272): java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 10059 nor current process has android.permission.REBOOT. The REBOOT permission doesn't show up in the list of permissions for my app even though other permissions do. Is this a functionality that is still protected even though it's now a part of the public API? All of my testing so far is on a Nexus One with Android 2.2
