I've created a custom gallery; however, the "Set wallpaper" button will not set the wallpaper. Here's the wallpaper.java I have. I'm just lost on how to implement OnClickListener and then set my button to use an onclicklistener like so:

Does anyone know how to handle Android HTC device Red (power) button programatically to stop my operation. I want to stop running some of my operation when user presses REd button when user is in my screen. I know for other buttons like Back button i could use "keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_BACK" event. But what is for Power(End) Red button? I'm not getting any keycode events for Red button when i'm in my application.

Since Bing is the search engine of choice on the Fascinate, what function will holding down the button serve? Will it still allow Google Voice commands? If not, I think that's a deal breaker for me.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm ultimately looking for a way to play/pause and skip music without turning on the screen. I had an HTC Hero a while back running CM7 RC, and I had a few options for this. Holding the volume rocker up or down skipped the song forward and backwards respectively, and when I had a headset in, the Mic button could also have these functions. A single press would play/pause, or answer a call (depending on phone state), double tap would skip the song, and a long press would activate voice search.
I now have the Epic 4G, and none of these functions work anymore. The volume rocker just changes the volume, and the mic button only answers calls, or activates voice dialing, and even then, the screen has to be on and unlocked. I find this of mild annoyance. I haven't found any obvious way to change these settings.
Basically, I want to know how do I change the function of hardware keys? Specifically, the mic button on a wired headset and the volume rockers for music functions.
should an Android application have an exit button (or menu function) or not? Ok, if there's some service or other resources consuming something running in the background I think the user should have an option to make it stop. But what about an application that would just sit there, inactive? If I take a look at the standard application it seems that the Android philosophy is to keep the applications running and let the system decide when to stop and destroy an application idling in the background. I didn't recognize "exit" or "quit" options in the standard programs. On the other hand - why not let the user decide and give the option to quit some software if he knows it's currently not used. So, what's the advice here? Give even a "passive" application an exit button? Or not and just leave it to the system?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 3 activities in my app: Activity1 -> Activity2 -> Activity3. Inside Activity3, if the user presses Back, I would like to return to Activity2. In Activity3's onPause event, I added a finish() statement. That's probably not even necessary, but I wanted to make sure this Activity gets cleaned up. This works fine.
However, while in Activity3, if the user presses Home or starts a new app (through notification bar or some other means), I want both Activity3 and Activity2 to finish. If the user returns to this app, he should resume with Activity1.
I have figured out how to do one or the other, but I can't figure out how to handle both cases, if it's even possible. Can I trap the "Back" button in Activity3 and send a message back to Activity2 telling it not to finish()? It seems like the Activities follow the same lifecycle flow (Pause, Stop) regardless of what you do to send them to the background. Just to answer the question of why I want this behavior, imagine that Activity1 is a login screen, Activity2 is a selection screen, and Activity3 is a content screen. If I press Back from the content page, I want to be able to make a new selection. If I exit via any other means (Home, notification bar), I want the user to be "logged out".
On the iPhone, when you hold down the top button and the button on the bottom it takes a snap shot of your screen, I love that feature. Does the droid have it?

However, I can't seem to manage this at all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use the new reboot function defined here: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/PowerManager.html#r. but I'm running into permissions issues even though I have the REBOOT permission in my manifest: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.REBOOT" /> The error I see in logcat is: E/Android Runtime( 5272): java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 10059 nor current process has android.permission.REBOOT. The REBOOT permission doesn't show up in the list of permissions for my app even though other permissions do. Is this a functionality that is still protected even though it's now a part of the public API? All of my testing so far is on a Nexus One with Android 2.2

When i use a pin blocked SIM card, the Android Java code through exceptions and the "rild" is repeatedly disconnected and reconnected. The at command response is correct and i suppose it is right for the reference ril to report "GENERIC FAILURE" when SIM Pin is blocked. I can not figure out the reason for the error. Can somebody help me.
