Android :: How To Capture Game Screens On Device?
Jun 26, 2010
We write a game application where we load bitmaps continuously. I would like to capture the content as video. I know through DDMS, I can capture the screen shot, but how do I capture series of bitmaps loaded?

I found a easy way for you non-rooted/non-Home++ to capture your screens. Download the Steamy Window app. Run it and close it right away. Go to the screen you want to print. Press and hold the Home key. Run Steamy Window. Wipe away all the steam. Hit the menu button and save the image. It seems like a lot of steps, but it is pretty quick and easy. The only thing the pic won't capture is the notification bar.

I've read the article "Supporting Multiple Screen" on Android developers site. But that doesn't apply to game logic.Let me get straight to the point. My situation is as follows:
- I'm creating a game using LunarLander code as a base.
- In my game, there'll be an object flying up from the bottom of the screen. The object will fly in projectile motion.
- I set the starting velocity, gravity and angle so that the highest point(of projectile motion) is almost at the top of the screen.
- The screen tested is Motorola Milestone. (480x854 resolution) Meaning the object travels around 854 pixels vertically.
I'm thinking of adjusting starting velocity based on screensizes. But that sounds unreliable when we've so many devices/resolutions out there. How do you combat these kind of problem when making games?

I am making an android game, but i do not have the money to buy a developer phone. The game is not finished but i should it is testable.. and if i dont test it know i may have a big problem later... it is playable though. Is there somebody who has a real device and wants to test the game for me, just starting it up and playing it a little bit is good enough. It's a 2d airplane shoot gane, much like the old raptor game. If someone is interested please reply, i will sent you the (singed) APK and with some things i want to test (using both the buttons as well as touch screen for gameplay).

So I have downloaded a game called trainz, which requires me to download 300+ MB data. I have a samsung galaxy young s6312. I have downloaded the game with the data on this mobile. Recently I got a note 2. I want to play this game on my note 2. But i don't want to download the data all over again. Is there a solution by which I can copy the data folder from my old device to my new one?
I already tried copying the com.nv3games.trainz folder (size 318 mb) from my old device to the obb folder of my new device, which didn't work. I also tried copying it to the data folder of my new device, which also didn't work. The Game was still asking me to download the data. Both devices are rooted, so any solution which requires root will be ok.

I have a square grid, for a turn based game ( grid is similar to the chess board ), but the moves in the games are different based on whether you have lapped your opponent pawn at least once or not.i.e if you have not lapped (beaten any of the opponents pawns) in the outer most grid as below.if you have lapped your opponent pawn once at least, then you get to reach home,this way.Any player having all his pawns reaching "home" first wins.The ones in yellow are safe-houses, i.e both the opponent pawn and the player's pawn get to stay in the same grid, this is not considered to be lapping ( the opponent ).The lapped pawn will return to its start point.Now the question is, what is the effective way to store the paths for the all the pawns.we will have 4 pawns for the player and 4 opponent pawns.Is there any pattern to store such static information, in a elegant way?

I have a puzzle game with a 7x7 grid of graphics, and a timer, its just about ready to go. But I am stuck on how to go about saving/continuing game. For example when someone exits I want them to be able to save and exit, then come back and click continue to pick up where they left off with all of the graphics in the right place, timer and score. I looked at onSaveInstanceState android examples, but not sure if this is what I need or how to implement it in my case.

i had an interview this morning for a job, and have an opportunity to earna great deal of brownie points with the business owners.They were thinking of purchasing some sort of electronic signature capture device (like fedex or UPS has when you sign for a package) for invoices.. BUT.I also mentioned my Droid Eris and how it can do so much. Turns out, both of the Owners have DROIDs lol.Anyways.. I want to know if anyone has seen some sort of application that can capture signatures, and either save an image to be emailed, or email directly from the app.OR does anyone know a DEV that could create something as simple as this, that I can talk to and relay updates on the APP to the owners of this company.They seemed really interested in it, and I'm pretty positive it will show a good bit of initiative in saving their company money from the get-go (on my part)

I would like to create a video recorder and so far haven't figured out how to set parameters in order to successfully go through MediaRecorder.prepare() method. Executing the following method
public void start() throws IOException{
String state = android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageState();
if(!state.equals(Environment.MEDIA_MOUNTED))
{
throw new IOException("SD card is not mounted. It is " + state + ".");
}
File directory = new File(path).getParentFile();
if(!directory.exists() && !directory.mkdirs())
{
throw new IOException("Path to file could not be created.");
}
recorder.setVideoSource(MediaRecorder.VideoSource.CAMERA);
recorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.THREE_GPP);
recorder.setVideoEncoder(MediaRecorder.VideoEncoder.H263);
recorder.setVideoFrameRate(15);
recorder.setVideoSize(176, 144);
recorder.setOutputFile(path);
recorder.prepare();
recorder.start();
this.state = VideoRecorderState.STATE_RECORDING;
}
it throws an exception on line recorder.prepare(). Does anyone know how to set parameters in order to be able to capture video?

I'm having trouble getting a screenshot. I installed the SDk, Eclipse, the drivers, enable usb debugging, like the instructions say. I open DDMS and it recognizes my phone without any problems. When I try to do a screen capture, it says screen not available. In the command box it says "timeout" and "truncated reply from ADB fb data". Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?My phone isn't rooted and is running RC33. I'm running windows vista on my computer.

As a first step toward a speech recognition project, we wrote a simple voice recording application based on the information in this thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa...
It is working; however, the audio is extremely poor too static for our needs. As a comparison, we did a similar audio file captured with audacity on a PC and it was much better. Has anyone been able to record high quality audio with the android dev phone? According to the documentation of MediaRecorder, there is only one audio encoder "AMR (Narrowband) audio codec" and three output formats--3gpp, mpeg, and raw AMR:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/MediaRecorder.html
According to wikipedia, AMR encoding is only 8hz. Is there a better option available perhaps a lower-level API compared to MediaRecorder? We are testing on Windows XP, with a Logitec USB microphone, eclipse ganymede, and we are using all the defaults for an android 1.5 app (no emulator command-line options. We defined the SD card in AVD manager).

I would like to be able to capture the video from an android phone camera, and then process this video. Processing involves adding a layer of AR to the live stream. Is this possible on android? Pretty sure it should be. I have looked at the android site [http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/index.html] but this seems to be concerned with video capture and storage. I would like to be able to play with the video pre-storage.

One of the alternative app stores is asking for unaltered, unedited capture from the app as a video. Plus I'm also interested in cleaner video than I get by focusing a camcorder on an Android on a table. Who knows how to do that? I think I found some posts that indicate Mark Murphy may have solved this with a tool that goes through DDMS. If so, I'll get that tool and donate.
