View 7 RepliesAndroid Market has a neat feature allowing you to launch it using a url in the format of market:// ... Is there an equivalent method for launching an application using a link?
View 5 Replies View RelatedApologies if this has already been posted, but I did search the group before writing.
I am trying to launch an Android app via a hyperlink from an HTML site - i.e. tel:+448458001020 would call play.com from my phone upon clicking the button that has aforementioned hyperlink. Or putting a hyperlink on a button geo:0,0?z=17 opens up google maps on my phone with my location at a zoom of 17, mailto:n...@email.com would email and obviously http:// would take the user to another webpage.
Is it possible to launch an Android app already installed on the phone this way?
I'm working on an application that needs to get the source of a web page from a link, and then parse the html from that page. Any starting points where to look to start writing such an app?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to make an android App that when the user navigates to my webpage with the browser and clicks on a specific link my App activity gets launched. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a need to create a background service that starts up during the system boot up, and keeps running until the device is powered down. There is no UI or Activity associated with this. I created a class extending the android Service class, and added the setttings to the AndroidManifest.xml file. When I launch this service in the emulator, I don't see this launched at all. I have overrided almost all the methods in the Service class to put log statements, but none of them shows up.
View 13 Replies View Relatedi'd like to Launch an Activity Form a Service. I know that this is not best practice for android however i am creating an application that is just a service and the first time it runs the user needs to accept some terms and conditions (this is the activity i need to launch). Can any one help me some code to do this? Is it possible?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI need to run a service each night at midnight. I would like to use the AlarmManager to do this. Can you give me some guidance of how to make it work correctly?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to create an app or background service that just listens for the launch of a 'default' app, say Contacts or the built-in Gmail app. If the contact app is clicked, I want to transfer control to my app temporarily (e.g. present a Yes/No popup to the user or increment an internal counter of my app ) and then redirect the user back to the app that was clicked. I want to do this only for a couple of 'well-known' built-in default apps, not any third party apps..
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just launched my app VLC Remote and was surprised to see that there isn't a way to post a link to the app on the market that works both on my android device and also in my browser.
-so I made a way, and I'm opening it up for all-comers.
What it does is lets you post an http link like this
http://and-download.hobbyistsoftware.com/android/download?name=VLC Remote&q=pname:com.hobbyistsoftware.android.vlcremote
If someone clicks on the link from an android device, then the link opens in the market. If they click from their computer, then it offers to send them a link by email (so they can click on the link on their device).
the download emails have a (subtle) advert for my app, but the feature is clearly your app!

How do you pass an intent from a service to a new activity launched from a main activity? There's a passextra( intent src ); but I don't think thats what I am looking for?
activity main > start service( intent wuteverserviceintent );
activity main > start activity( intent newactivityintent );
I need to launch a service running in the background, that should record what's on the current screen for say about 10 sec.. i should able to save it in a file or on any storage device and later i should able to retrieve it also..

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have an Android application. Now I need to conduct a user survey for this application. Our app will display a list of selections, etc. This view and it's control will be data driven by (a) document(s) downloaded from a server. What Android utilities I can use to displaying HTML, javascript, etc. within an application?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have heavily edited the original text and instead of the how question I am posting the code that produces the effect I wanted, namely a floating menu on top that stays fixed as I scroll whatever is in the middle with a lower menu at the bottom of the screen. Ain't life sweet - Might even work on the iPhone as well.
Why I posted was like I said in the original question. I'm fiddling with creating the initial lay out for a "mobile" application for the disabled, have tonnes of data, dictionary files, icons for the purpose etc. I want to have the app running as HTML to make it as portable as possible, i.e. make it runnable on Android, Iphone, Maemo... whatever.
I got some hints by looking at the example at http://www.quackit.com/css/codes/css_floating_menu.cfm as well as a lot of trial and error and finally minor edits by a paid freelancer.
Below you can find some crude (to put it mildly) HTML/CSS (cut the CSS part and load a style instead in the HTML's you create for cleaner code) but for now, let's look at the prototype concept.
CODE:...........
You can see the working example on your Android device or in your Android emulator http://globability.org/webapp/aaa.html
Need to get the sound working though - but nearly there :)Links to the different web based version and thoughts behind application can be found on:
The project this application springs from can be found on [url] - Look under prototypes (it is the top one under the heading protypes).
I have an Android application that is a TabHost with a WebView. I use it to load a specific html file that has a text field in its bottom part. When I touch the html textfield, the soft keyboard pops up, and hides the textfield, so that I cannot see what I have typed.
Here is the layout:

I created an app with one activity, and it works just fine. Having though more about the app, I decided to add another activity which be the welcome screen of the app, with a nice logo and some buttons. This app should direct the user to the activity I mentioned before. The only trouble is - I can't find out where and how can I determine which activity should launch first, the moment the app loads. Do I need to create the entire app from scratch, but this time programing the home activity first?

I;ve been trying to create a custom button in android using this tutorial - http://www.gersic.com/blog.php?id=56
It works well but it doesn't say how to change the font size or weighting. Any ideas?
There was another question on here and the only answer was to use html styling but you can't change a font size in html without using css (or the deprecated font tag). There must be a better way of setting the pixel size of the font used on buttons?
I've run this on a device and on the emulator. The app stops unexpectedly on both. I have not a clue what is wrong currently. It uses Google API Maps I compiled with Google Api 7. I followed this tutorial:
http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/views/hello-mapview.html
I did use the correct API Key That the final apk is signed with. This is the source(If you compile it shouldn't work as it is unsigned). This is the compiled signed apk

We are trying to launch C program application (for example, Helloworld) at start-up on ARM-based target board. We copied the application in /system/bin and modified the init.rc script to add the entry of the application in "on boot". But, still, the application does not launch at the start-up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried out the HelloAndroid example at developer.android.com. After upgrading the UI to XNL layout as described, I get these error messages in the console log:
[2010-08-26 11:44:49 - HelloAndroid] WARNING: Application does not specify an API level requirement! [2010-08-26 11:44:49 - HelloAndroid] Device API version is 8 (Android 2.2)
The programmatic UI layout worked fine before. Where die I make a mistake?
