Jul 3, 2010Can someone point me to right direction, how to create an adapter for AutoCompleteTextView, which would be getting data from SQLite DB, using data, which user entered into the text field? I want to use the user-entered data to filter suggestions for autocompletion.I imagine that adapter should always take user-entered data as soon as changes appears and use it for fetching suggestions on-the-fly. Is that possible? So far I've seen many tutorials for autocompletion where static String arrays were used, but never seen them build dynamically.Is it possible to do it automatically or I need always fetch String array myself and pass as ArrayList to adapter on every AutoCompleteTextView change?

Mar 5, 2009I got a Dev phone and installed plenty of applications, but the battery was used out in 7~8 hours, even not enough for over-night. I guess some applications, which had permission to prevent system from sleeping, killed the battery. So I am very curious if Google will have any application criteria/certification for the developers, especially for the power usage.

Nov 1, 2010I have heavily edited the original text and instead of the how question I am posting the code that produces the effect I wanted, namely a floating menu on top that stays fixed as I scroll whatever is in the middle with a lower menu at the bottom of the screen. Ain't life sweet - Might even work on the iPhone as well.
Why I posted was like I said in the original question. I'm fiddling with creating the initial lay out for a "mobile" application for the disabled, have tonnes of data, dictionary files, icons for the purpose etc. I want to have the app running as HTML to make it as portable as possible, i.e. make it runnable on Android, Iphone, Maemo... whatever.
I got some hints by looking at the example at http://www.quackit.com/css/codes/css_floating_menu.cfm as well as a lot of trial and error and finally minor edits by a paid freelancer.
Below you can find some crude (to put it mildly) HTML/CSS (cut the CSS part and load a style instead in the HTML's you create for cleaner code) but for now, let's look at the prototype concept.

There was another question on here and the only answer was to use html styling but you can't change a font size in html without using css (or the deprecated font tag). There must be a better way of setting the pixel size of the font used on buttons?

Jun 25, 2010Perhaps I'm misunderstanding how Intents and intent-filters work, but it seems to me that this should be a strait-forward case. However it's not working. Here is the Intent I'm sending:

And here is the intent-filter:

The items in the ListView comes from an AsyncTask. When the AsyncTask is running I want it to stop adding non-matching items. For now, if it had loaded 5 items and I search with a specified String, then when the AsyncTask continues loading items it adds automatically Orders to the ListView, even if there isn't a match.

Sep 14, 2010I built an Android application that requires OAuth. All was working well using a custom scheme call back which is intercepted by Android. It seems that Yahoo have changed the goal posts and now the custom scheme is not accepted by Yahoo.I am now looking at possible alternate approaches. My first attempt is to use a normal http scheme and modify my intent filter to intercept the new URL. I have the following in my AndroidManifest.xml :

* When exactly this intent-filter will be triggered?
* Any changes to the intent-filter or permissions that will widen the filter to apply to redirect requests?
* Any other approaches I could use?

I thought I would just try to override ArrayAdapter.getFilter(), but that requires I re-implement the private ArrayAdapter.ArrayFilter which requires access to a bunch of ArrayAdapter's private instances.

Jul 20, 2010When creating an intent with action send to send some data, is there a way to filter the results that are included in the activity chooser that is created using Intent.createChooser? I have not seen a way to do this other than setting the mime type, but it is not flexible enough.
For example, there is a situation when I want e-mail apps to be the only results in the activity chooser dialog. Setting the type to "text/ html" successfully filters this down to email apps, except when bluetooth is enabled. Bluetooth appears in the list as well, but this is not desirable. Surely there is a way to have a little more control over the results?

I use the data from the rows elsewhere in my Activity so I don't want to change my SQL to filter them with a WHERE clause. What is the best way to keep a row from being displaying in my ListView? Ideally I would check a column in my row and then only add rows to the ListView that satisfy a condition.
