Android :: Reuse Default Droid Contact Search In 3rd Party Application - Possible?

Jul 14, 2010

At the moment I am trying to evaluate if it is possible to reuse the android contact search in a 3rd party application.

I got the problem that I have to implement a contact list/picker including a filtering possibility for the contacts list. That means that the standard android picker opened by an intent does not help me. So I decided to implement the list/picker on my own which is not that difficult. But I need to be able to offer the android search dialog in my own implementation as well.

So is it possible to reuse the standard contact search mechanism in an own application? (the contact search available e.g. in the default contact list) Or do I have to implement this one on my own?

Motorola Droid :: Charging Droid With 3rd Party Chargers / Screen Wierdness

Nov 27, 2009

I've noticed some odd behavior when using a wall charger for an Amazon Kindle 2. The moment I plug in the charger it's as if there are fifty phantom fingers touching the screen repeatedly. I've heard others report similar behavior with various other non-moto chargers.the Kindle charger charges the Droid just fine, as does my Blackberry charger that I use at work. I just plug them in and immediately turn the screen off. I've been using those for 2 weeks and haven't noticed any ill effects as long as I turn the screen off immediately after plugging in the charger. At first I thought that any standard USB micro charger with the proper voltage should work without any issues. That is obviously not the case, but it leaves me wondering what causes the odd screen behavior. Are some chargers just not shielded properly? Is it EM interference activating the touchscreen? Or is the moto charger just special somehow? Maybe some EE type out there can figure out or explain what the deal is with this.

Motorola Droid :: Charging With 3rd Party Cables?

Nov 8, 2009

I purchased some additional microUSB cables for use with my Droid at work and home so I'm not carrying one around all the time. I've found that the third party cables will not charge the Droid when plugged into the AC plug. The cable supplied by Motorola works fine, so I know it's not the AC plug. The cables do work as data connections when plugged into my laptop. Did I just buy crappy cables, or is there something special about the Moto cable?

Motorola Droid :: What 3rd Party Programs Do I Need To Root?

Oct 6, 2010

i am seriously considering joining the root party, but the number of 3rd party programs needed seems daunting. can anyone compile a list of all the software/download links you need to do it correctly? i have already read the following threads and am pretty set on using BuglessBeast 0.5 as my new ROM.The Official One-Click Rooting Solution for Droid Thread LATEST: V2.0.4.Painless and Thorough ROM Switching in Under an Hour.i know those threads mention Motorola Drivers, Soup or Root, ROM Manager, Nandroid, CW Recovery, and a few other programs. which ones do i absolutely need, and is there possibly an easier way than the one posted above to load BuglessBeast after i am done with the root? when i first started looking up info, i figured rooting would be the hard part; now it appears that loading the new ROM is much more complicated. i know there is alot of info already posted here, but sifting through it all for the useful bits is an arduous task. please be nice to the newb!

Motorola Droid :: Handle Voice Commands Such As Play Music - Party Shuffle - Play (Artist)

Feb 5, 2010

I was just wondering if the Droid can handle voice commands such as "Play Music", "Party Shuffle", "Play (Artist)", "Play (Song)", "Play (Album)", "Open Email", "Play (Video)", etc, etc; or if there are plans for this in the future firmware? I personally could make use of this, especially "Play (Artist)". I tried to make it play a song and it called my grandma ):

Also, can anyone tell me the difference between voice search and voice dialer? It seems like when I use voice dialer, I say "Call Home" and a list of options pops up of who to call (one choice being Home) (When I wish it would have just automatically called Home), but if I use voice search it automatically does call Home.

I also tried to make a lib directory with this jar file inside, but with no more success.Every time I try to generate an APK file, the jar file is not included.

Android :: Regarding Buying Eris From 3rd Party

Jan 13, 2010

I found a good deal for a HTC Droid Eris online from a website, the location was perfect as it was right near where i reside. After setting up an appointment to meet and looking at the phone i found that the phone wasn't 'brand new' but had been used, the owner claims that she bought it from another person who claims that it had not been activated at all. I tried to activate the phone and couldnt because the phone had already been activated on Verizon's Network. She said that she was going to take the phone in in the morning and see what they could do about it. So she is going to give me a call tomorrow (i guess its today now that it is past midnight). So my question is if she calls me back tomorrow and says that Verizon has taken care of the problem and i can now activate it with my phone # do i go ahead and buy it from her? Is there anything i should be worried or be informed about? Help me out fellow Android users! I dont want to buy the phone and activate it and get screwed over somehow because i wasn't knowledgable to a certain extent, as you can tell i dont have much experience with phones as far as activation/ESN/plans/etc whatnot go.

Android :: Use Of 3rd Party Game Engines

I'm looking at building a game for Android and I've looked around for any sort of insight into how to approach it.I've run across a few game engines for the platform and I'm wondering if any of you have had experience in using them.I worry about spending a lot of time building an app that relies heavily on a game engine, that maybe is abandoned at some point or becomes incompatible with future versions of Android. However, some of the "out of the box" functionality appears to be nice to have.Just curious to hear if any of you have looked into this at all.
