Android :: Java Reflection To Call Higher API Level Function / Abstract Class

Jul 6, 2010

My point is to be able to call a 2.1 API if it exists, while the application should be able to run in 1.5
Specifically, I am making a GPS application which would like to call android.location.LocationManager.addNmeaListener if available. My problem is that this call takes as parameter an abstract class (GpsStatus.NmeaListener) which I cannot pass directly to Class.GetMethod (or my application won't work in 1.5). What I am currently trying is a) to create a wrapper class for GpsStatus.NmeaListener:......................

Android :: Creating An Object - Multiple Of Same Instance

Oct 19, 2010

I created an Matrix object (like the math Matrix, a 4x4 block of numbers for instance) and it works fine, can set row,col,variable just fine, but, I cant have more than one of the same object, I have it creating an ArrayList of a dozen Matrix objects, each with the three variables, but when I call changeVar(Matrix x,int variable) and refresh the printout of the matrix, it changes all of the numbers to what i changed the variable to. So it looks like its just creating the same instance over and over, and if you change one, it changes them all, am i missing anything obvious?

Motorola :: Class Instance Sizes In Android

Aug 9, 2010

I'm currently implementing some image processing code for Android. I'm aware of the memory limits and am happy to code within them. However, I cannot find any documentation that lets me work out how many bytes are used for each instance of a given class that I might want to instantiate (on the heap). I'm an experienced C++ programmer and so am relatively competent at working out such struct/class sizing issues for my C++ code (taking into account processor data path width, platform alignment issues etc). I know that Java in general is at a higher level of abstraction and so that I may not be able to guarantee particular memory usage for a general Java VM. However given that android is running on a different VM, and given that developers are strongly memory constrained: I'm assuming that there may be a relatively deterministic set of rules for working out how big a given object instance will be, given knowledge of the members.

Android :: Java Reflection - Get All Instance Variable Names Of A Class

Nov 5, 2010

I'm writing an android app that requires binding a JSON object into a domain entity with the keys from the JSON as instance variables. Since there are several domain entities, each with different instance variables that the JSON needs to bind to in the app, i'd like to write a method such as ths following: Loop through all the instance variables from the domain if a key exists in the JSON with the name of the instance variable, take the value for this key from the JSON and set the Domain's instance variable with this key name equal to this value. The reason i'm interested in the doing the binding from the class to the JSON is because if the JSON changes for some reason, I don't want it to break the app when the instance variable doesn't exist in the app's domain for a specific JSON key. Code...

General :: How To Get Instance Of Class That Implements Interface Using Reflection

May 7, 2014

I've been going over the android sdk for the past year to find out if there is a way to change the network type(2g/3g/4g), in phones with root access.However I couldn't find any way to do this.Asking around,someone told me that I could do this using reflection,by calling a method on a phone instance.Looking through the source code,I did find a setPrefferedNetworkType(); method in the Phone Interface,inside the internal telephony package.Is there anyway I can use this to solve my problem.I can't seem to find a way to get an instance of a class that implements the interface.Or is there any other way to do it entirely?

Android :: Sending An Object To A Library Class

Aug 28, 2010

I'm attempting to make a simple homebrew game engine/framework in android. I have the "engine" as a library project that handles all of the graphics rendering, game activity, and whatnot. Essentially, the library project has a class GameMain which has a background image, an array of drawables, and a few functions (the most important is a run() function). The projects that use this library extend this class with their own unique run() function. The idea is that games that use the engine start with their own activity, launch the GameActivity from the library, and pass their unique GameMain child object into the library, which should run the unique run() method thanks to polymorphism.

Getting this to work, however, has been a struggle. I originally attempted to make the GameMain Serializable, which didn't appear to work. I'm now attempting to make it a Parcelable, but it does not appear to run the child objects run() function when called from the library. I'm wondering, are Parcelable objects actually capable of sending Object methods across activities? Am I going about this the wrong way, or am I just having some other weird bug I have not uncovered?

Android :: Pass In Object Java Class Embedded In As Parameter

Apr 19, 2010

I'm building an android application, which has a list view, and in the list view, a click listener, containing an onItemClick method. So I have something like this:

public class myList extends ListActivity {
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
getListView().setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,
int position, long id) {
/* Do something*/
}
}
}

Normally, this works fine. However, many times I find myself needing too preform an application using the outer class as a context. thusfar, I've used: parent.getContext(); to do this, but I would like to know, is that a bad idea? I can't really call: because it's not really a subclass, just an embedded one. So is there any better way, or is that considered cosure? Also, if it is the right way, what should I do if the embedded method doesn't have a parameter to get the outside class?

Android :: Communicating Between Receiver Class And An Activity Class

Jul 14, 2010

I'm just getting into Android development, and I have a question about communicating between a receiver class and an activity class. I'm very new to JAVA and Android so I hope I don't sound too stupid. I'm developing an application where I intercept an SMS message and then based on various elements of that SMS I might delete it once it's been saved to the inbox. I have a receiver class that intercepts the txt message, and I am also able to delete messages from my inbox with code in the activity class using a button at the moment. The problem I have is communicating between the receiver class and the activity class where the code to delete a message resides. I tried putting that code directly into the receiver class but as I'm sure most of you already know the BroadcastReceiver class doesn't seem to support what I need to delete messages. I've been searching for an answer to this for a while, but haven't been able to find anything. Honestly I'm not sure I know enough about JAVA and Android to even recognize a solution if I saw it.
