This is a newbie question: I've had my Droid X for only four days so far, but love it. While at home, I sometimes have problems connecting to a network. I think the problem is that 3G is not as strong here, but I have a good WiFi network. Is it possible to have the phone use WiFi as the first option so I will keep the connection even if 3G is weak? Or is my problem something else?

But it force closes my application. Any Idea? My has user following permissions:

I want to force the Gmail native Android app to use Wifi, and not the mobile data connection. recommend an email app for Android that would allow me to accomplish this?

I just picked up the Droid X yesterday and so far love the phone. I had the Incredible a few months ago but had to return it due to some camera hardware issues. Anyways, my phone came with Android 2.1. I upgraded to 2.2 after charging my phone. Now:
1) Whenever I turn off WiFi, within 1 hr my phone will keep telling me it detects WiFi networks, I'll go back in control panel and sure enough WiFi has some how turned itself back on.
2)My battery usage icon, when I click on the battery to get a breakdown of what's using power it 'force closes' every time.
I don't own an Android 4.3 tablet yet but I need to know the following things.I wanted to restrict my device so that a user is unable to change any settings (in particular turn on/off WiFi) and disable all applications except one.How strict is the restriction?
If I disable all apps except one what will the restricted user be able to do?
In an ideal scenario I'd like the restricted user to do only 3 things:
a) turn the tablet on/off
b) turn the application of my choosing on/off
c) all other options would be disabled
d) the restricted user should NOT see any data of the administrator
I have a single user access to a Wifi device on my macbook. I'd like to use my HTC evo and sisters iPhone on the Wifi also. Is there any way I can broadcast the wifi from one of my devices. I know if I had my laptop hardwired I could share the Wifi, but I've not found anything to do Wifi to Wifi. or Wifi to Bluetooth. Any know, I don't have data plans on the cell phones as I am out of town.

Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.
My Hero takes a long time to connect to my home wifi. I usually go in to the settings and hit "Scan" repeatedly before it connects. Sometimes it fails connect, and I have to go into Settings to try again. Is there a way/app to scan automatically or re-attempt to connect again? Maybe there's something I'm not thinking of?

I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now
I have read all I can about using the Inc overseas and am confused. If the phone is switched to WiFi in a WiFi spot, can you use the phone? I have read that Verizon put some sort of restrictions on it, but I'm not savvy enough to understand it all. My daughter is in the Coast Guard and we both have DInc's. She goes to places like Star Bucks in other countries that offers WiFi and we would LOVE to be able to text each other with our phones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Froyo Overclocked Kernels includes *wifi* fix is where I got my kernel. I've been overclocking to 1200 GHz.

Even under the wireless network now, it says "Disabled, secured with 802.1x EAP"
I have both ADW and LP on my Droid. If I go into Settings/applications/ manage applications and select a launcher (that has widgets) and use the force stop option on the launcher, will the widgets set up with that launcher continue to run? Or would they be stopped as well? Would it matter if bother the running and stopped launcher had some of the same widgets?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that whenever I introduce some new awful bug to my app and it crashes, Android just keeps starting it up over and over again. I eventually have to hit the dial button on the phone just to make my app lose focus. I searched this group's posts and the developer documents.I can't find anything about this. Is this usual behavior? If so, is there some way to disable it? Maybe it's just my coming from a desktop background, but I kind of think that when something is closed, it should stay closed, especially if the reason it was closed was that it crashed. And of course, I hope my final app never force closes, but with all the different hardware you never know.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Android application with a main activity that is the tabhost. I'm adding multiple tabs to the tabhost with an intent to several activities.
My problem is that these activities are not created (onCreate is not called) until I click on the tab. This is a problem because I need to register broadcastreceivers: there may be broadcasts that are sent -before- a particular tab is opened.
I tried to work around this by:
Setting my receivers as static and registering from somewhere else. This is not possible because I need to call into methods.
Calling into tabHost.setCurrentTabByTag(the_tag) and then switching back to my root tab. This only works sometimes and this is a very ugly solution imo.
Not using activities but just using views instead. Also not a very elegant solution because it turns my tabHost activity into one huge master class doing all kinds of unrelated things.
This question may sound stupid but let me give you bit of my background. I am a developer in a country which is neither a buying-app supported nor a selling-app supported country, and have submitted my application to Android market as a paid application. Now, I would like to see if I can see my app on the the Android market, but can't find a way to set my Android phone to as US account.I have tried setting the location of my account to US, creating a new Google Account and set my location to US, but both methods don't allow me to browse the paid applications. Is there a way to get around this? or should I physically be present in one of those country to really test the presence of my paid apps in the Android market? Does the Android market determine the location by the IP address of the Android Phone?

The second one makes sense, since that name has gone away. But I can't figure out why the first one would show up, since that permission should exist on the phone. anybody got any clues? I can't reproduce this on my phone, so it's kinda hard to debug.
Some of my users are reporting force closes. Does anyone have some ideas about how to track these issues down when I can't reproduce them in the Emulator or on my Hero? This is my app btw if anyone wants to logcat it for me:
