I have an application which continuously fetches data from the server , downloads and plays songs ..My app runs on WiFi. After around 30 minutes , the application loses connectivity .. At that point of time if a browser is opened it connects to the internet.. But my app has lost connectivity. If i make explicit requests thru the app by user interaction the connectivity is regained, but automatic disconnection happens many times.. Even if the setting for Wifi always on is set, this this happens. This issue i observed on HTC Magic and Samsung Europa..Does anyone have an idea why this happends.

I had a rooted Evo with 3.26 build with wifi tethering that worked PERFECTLY, got damaged, so my insurance replaced it, and now I have a brand new Evo 4g with 3.29.651.5 build that I just rooted and downloaded wifi tethering, but can't get online! I have "limited connectivity". I didn't have this issue with my last Evo. Anyone else had this problem with a new Evo before?

my WiFi on my Evo has been acting up, so I went and restarted modem and router, turned off WiFi on Evo, battery pull Evo, then as a last resort, I updated my router's firmware (since its been over a year since update =/) so I figured maybe that would solve something. Nope, can't even update Twitter, Facebook, get on internet. I did update on 6/28 and everything went smooth and my WiFi was working then. I have done nothing since and then all of a sudden, last night and today WiFi wont work.
I guess to explain this better, I can connect to my router, Evo shows that I'm connected with Good/Excellent connection and 55 mbps, but its like no internet connectivity, Facebook, Twitter, Internet, nothing. Like I've said up until last night everything was working until now. Did the update on 6/28 just slowly kill my WiFi?

So, I will try to be as detailed as possible, but this may be outside the scope of this forum. I will respond to any direct questions in regards to my configuration.I have a brand new Motorola Droid 2 and a Cisco 851w wireless router which I have configured myself.I can successfully associate the droid 2 to my wireless network. It obtains an IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.Using an android market ping utility, however I cannot ping externally or even to my gateway.I've tried the following in the process of my troubleshooting:tatically assigning my droid's internal addresses (and explicitly naming DNS).Unhiding my SSID Provisioning an alternate completely unsecured, unhidden wireless SSID (as opposed to an original hidden SSID, WPA2/PSK configuration)Restarting the phone and routerLaptop devices are able and have been able to associate, and pass traffic without issue for over a year.I cannot really pinpoint an issue with this setup, as I am able to associate and browse consumer/business wireless networks elsewhere without issue. Searches for the above described issue yield the same suggestions I have attempted in the process of my troubleshooting.

I have a new Droid Incredible. I am trying to get it set up, configured, etc., and was trying to connect to my home WiFi network. I have an airport express (in bridge mode) connected to a router. The router is connected to my cable modem via ethernet, and also connected to my Mac desktop via ethernet. My Incredible can see my home network, but when I try to connect it hangs at the "acquiring IP address" stage and eventually fails. I know my phone is functional, because it connects fine to the wireless network at work. I know my home network is fine, because I can connect to it via my laptop no problem. I'm sure there is some setting that I am messing up, but I'm pretty naive about networking issues.

Very happy with the i9000 in the last few days of ownership, using launcher pro in place of stock but otherwise mostly unchanged. One issue we have is that after being at home overnight on WiFi, the phone doesn't automatically re enable 3g. To restore the mobile data you have to go into the network operator selection and re select Optus (our carrier here in Aus). Leaving it on auto doesn't help, and you have to manually choose it each time (ie: it "forgets" what I selected or something). Using apndroid to mangle the apn on/off doesn't help. Restarting the phone fixes it but obviously not ideal.
Have tried entering the code to change it to gsm only instead of the default wcdma/gsm auto with no benefit. When the mobile data is working, it happily switches between 2g and 3g, but will sometimes simply stop working as per the wifi overnight problem and I have to manually select the operator again. This happens very randomly and can go several days without drama, our only a few minutes. While this data won't connect, the phone capabilities aren't affected and you can make and receive calls fine. In fact if you dial a number it sometimes causes the data to re connect.

I bought my Xperia x10 mini yesterday, and one of the first things I did was to set it up for WiFi in my house (which I already have 2 laptops and a stationary PC connected to). Setting it up was easy and quick, but my phone doesn't find the network, not even if I am standing right beside the router. I have tried to restart the WiFi connection, restart my phone, delete and re-add the home connection, but the phone still doesn't connect to the network.
The network's SSID isn't broadcasted for security reasons, could this be the problem? When I search for networks, it doesn't find any 'unnamed' networks like the windows pcs do. (which is normally the one I need to connect to.) Is there something wrong with my hardware? Or my software (my phone is completely up-to-date)? (Except broadcast the SSID, which is not an option..)

I don't own an Android 4.3 tablet yet but I need to know the following things.I wanted to restrict my device so that a user is unable to change any settings (in particular turn on/off WiFi) and disable all applications except one.How strict is the restriction?
If I disable all apps except one what will the restricted user be able to do?
In an ideal scenario I'd like the restricted user to do only 3 things:
a) turn the tablet on/off
b) turn the application of my choosing on/off
c) all other options would be disabled
d) the restricted user should NOT see any data of the administrator

I have a single user access to a Wifi device on my macbook. I'd like to use my HTC evo and sisters iPhone on the Wifi also. Is there any way I can broadcast the wifi from one of my devices. I know if I had my laptop hardwired I could share the Wifi, but I've not found anything to do Wifi to Wifi. or Wifi to Bluetooth. Any know, I don't have data plans on the cell phones as I am out of town.

It's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.

My Hero takes a long time to connect to my home wifi. I usually go in to the settings and hit "Scan" repeatedly before it connects. Sometimes it fails connect, and I have to go into Settings to try again. Is there a way/app to scan automatically or re-attempt to connect again? Maybe there's something I'm not thinking of?

So I decided to actually try out Barnacle today, as I've had it installed for a couple days now. Set my options, started it, and connected with an older Acer laptop that a co-worker had at the office. Here are the speeds I got from the local San Diego, CA speedtest.net server...
5.13Mb down
1.37Mb up
Wow...that's phenominal for a mobile device!

I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now

I have read all I can about using the Inc overseas and am confused. If the phone is switched to WiFi in a WiFi spot, can you use the phone? I have read that Verizon put some sort of restrictions on it, but I'm not savvy enough to understand it all. My daughter is in the Coast Guard and we both have DInc's. She goes to places like Star Bucks in other countries that offers WiFi and we would LOVE to be able to text each other with our phones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm using the latest Wifi Fix and OverClock kernel for 2.2 Froyo, but I'm still having issues randomly disconnecting from the wireless network... The wifi signal shows 0/3 bars even when sitting right in front of the router.
Froyo Overclocked Kernels includes *wifi* fix is where I got my kernel. I've been overclocking to 1200 GHz.
This is where I got my ROM (it was updated today) Download: Newer Motorola Droid Froyo Leak FRF57 | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog
Even under the wireless network now, it says "Disabled, secured with 802.1x EAP"

I'm having to move networks from Virgin back to o2.
I'll be returning the Virgin Desire and just received the o2 Desire today.
Setting it up went well, accounts added etc. but I'm having trouble with the WiFi - I can't disable it, every time I do it switches itself back on - I'm assuming that's something to do with the o2 firmware and it wouldn't be a big deal if the WiFi worked properly
I set it to install all my apps, but wouldn't over Wifi, only over 3G, I can't browse the internet or check for software updates in settings... I've got 2 email accounts set up - Gmail & Exchange (just as I did on the other handset), and it's just told me it can't sync to the Exchange server now though it seems to have been fine so far...
Yet I've just sent myself a test email over WiFi successfully - it appeared straight away in the webmail and then back on the handset, so some part of it's working...

Wife and I each have new Sprint HTC Hero. We also have a home wifi network using an older (pre-802.11n) Apple Airport Extreme base station as WDS main and an old Apple Airport Express as a WDS remote. When we're home we tend to turn on our phone's wifi.
As long as only one phone has wifi turned on, everything is fine. But within minutes of turning on wifi on the second phone as well, our wifi router starts to lose it. Apparent massive interference. After a few more minutes the router becomes catatonic, so much so that Airport Utility cannot even see the router at all.
A power cycle of the router fixes things for at most a few minutes, then it rapidly goes downhill again. Turning off the wifi on one phone (doesn't seem to matter which one) and power-cycling the router brings back perfect sanity until the next time wifi on both phones is turned on.
I have neither the time nor the energy to go through the inevitable denials and mutual finger-pointing with Apple and Sprint, but I thought I would make note of it here for the benefit of the community.

Never used a smartphone before today, and just got the LG Eve.
I have a couple questions.
I only have a limited amount of data on my wireless plan, so I want to download apps at home (on WiFi). How can I ensure that when I'm in the marketplace and downloading it's downloading on WiFi and not 3G (thus saving data)? I found a WiFi widget (turns off/on WiFi) - but is there a 3G widget -- to make sure that when I'm at home I'm not downloading using data on the wireless plan?

Or simply an app that turns wifi/mobile network on/off when the screen is on/off ? on my oold phone it turned on internet connection itself when sending data, then turns off when done! so simple and smart...

when you use the wifi on your droid, do you have an ip or something that identifies you like when you use your computer at home? not sure if I am wording this right. for example, if you stumbled onto a malicious website on your computer, they could easily get your ip address. if you used your droid wifi at a coffee shop with the same website, would they have some identifier for your phone?

I am using WiFi tether on my myTouch 3g. Randomly my computer will just disconnect from the WiFi even with 99% signal strength. It doesn't do this with any other WiFi connections just the one from my phone. About the phone, its the original myTouch 3g, running Cyanogen 5.0.7-DS-test5. I tried to do some searching online about this problem but couldn't find any thing for recent versions of WiFi Tether.

if I read this correctly, with 2.2 Android OS we have capability to turn our phones into WiFi hotspot, but it come at cost from Verizon. I already pay $45 for corporate unlimited data usage, paying anything extra on top of that for the times when I use my phone as hot spot just seems ridicules.
Isn't there any apps or ways to avoid the extra gridy charge from Verizon for the WiFi hotspot usage?

If I am at home for hours at a time, what benefits come with using WiFi on my Droid Eris instead of the mobile network? When home, I have computer access so speed is of no concern. I'm just wondering what the battery life difference is, if any. And now that I think about it, if I'm home I could just be charging my phone so even if WiFi saved battery life it wouldn't be any gain. WiFi seems to be such a desirable feature, but I have no idea how it benefits me.
