Hey guys, am I the only one on the Droid that is bothered by the way handcent flick scrolls? when you press your finger to the screen during scrolling it doesnt stop or slow down the scrolling like the default messaging app does. Is there any way to fix this or any other nice sms app?

When I am scrolling contacts in Handcent the slider button on the right is easier and larger than in the normal contacts list. Any way to make Contacts the same?

But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks.Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.
View 49 Replies View RelatedI'm making an Javascript web app and I can't for the life of me get the touchstart event to fire. I get the touchmove and touchend events no problem. This is a problem because as I see it the best way to distinguish between a tap and a scrolling motion is to zero a counter on the touchstart event, update it at touchmove and then compare it at touchend. I'm doing this so I can do some action at the end of tap but not a scroll. For instance, it would be very confusing if a page opened for an item in a listed after you finished scrolling down that list, but it would be nice to be able to tap on an item to open its page.
This is what I have..
I never see the touchstart alert. If I scroll the touchend will fire and app__touchMoving will have some sort of decent value. On a side note, I've noticed that sometimes the touchend will seem to fire multiple times.
Am I missing something basic here? Plenty of people say that this should work just fine on Android (and iPhone) yet the first listener never seems to fire.
Update: I should mention that I've been testing on a Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.1.

I am using a progressbar widget in my application to show the download progress.
In the current state, I am able to manually move the slider back and forth while download is progressing. How can I prevent the manual moving of progressbar, instead it works only based on
progressbar.setProgress(progressbar.getProgress() + 1024); -- currently this works perfect, but I need to prevent the manual moving of progressbar during download.
I was up one night, with my rooted eris. Lying in bed, texting my girlfriend because she refused to let me sleep, I thought nothing of it. My phone was plugged in, and I fell asleep on top of it.Now most of the time my phone will automatically scroll to the left.I have reset my phone and tried other ROMs and it's all the same. I read in the forums that there is no fix but that was as of 5-xx-10.So i was wondering.... Is there a fix now or am I going to have to get a new phone?And if i do have to get a new phone... Would it be a refurb or would it be a NEW phone?
View 11 Replies View RelatedThis is my first touchscreen phone and I am having trouble getting use to it and was wondering if there were any tricks to it. While scrolling a page with my finger I often find I am inadvertently clicking a link I didn't intend or two links are close together and my finger makes contact with the wrong one first and in both cases I have to stop loading the page I dont want, hit menu and back to reload the page I did want and start scrolling over again.I also find it unnatural that the phone can scroll in both the x and y directions at the same time. It makes sense to scroll in whatever direction is more predominant.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wife has been having a very strange problem with her Eris lately. She uses her phone as her alarm and when it goes off in the morning and she picks it up to snooze or dismiss the options simply won't be on the screen, it will be her default home screen. The alarm is still going off though so she touches the Sense clock widget to turn off the alarm manually but as soon as she touches the widget the screen starts to scroll to the left and will continue to do so for a few moments and will eventually stop. She only seems to have this auto-scrolling problem when dealing with her alarm going off. Any suggestions?

I am running launcher pro and started noticing this effect after getting the 2.2 froyo update. 2.2 doesn't seem to impressive. Other than the flash capability. I could careless for it.

View 11 Replies View RelatedSo like everyone else I was getting really annoyed about the time stamp issue with handcent under 2.2. I looked at the release notes for handcent and saw that version 3.27 added some sort of timestamp fix for the Droid X. Apparently this actually causes problems with the DroidX 2.2 official release. I got an older copy of handcent (version 3.26) and now everything appears with the correct time stamps. I got the apk from here: Download Handcent SMS for Android at Freeware Lovers. You will also need to use the app SMS Time Fix from the market to address the problem with the delay that causes messages to be out of order. So I guess one less thing broken, now if only they can fix the double lock.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I downloaded Handcent and the handcent keyboard in order to have T9 functionality (I like to type fast with one hand), and found the Handcent T9 keyboard to be pure crap.
First, it doesn't even have basic words in it, but mainly the letters only show and the numbers don't, so have to do a seperate thing just to put numbers in. Since it was free I got what I paid for.
So I search the market and found Better Keyboard and then had to also buy its T9 app, called EvenBetter Keyboard and this is much better. Is it worth it to buy to apps (2.99+3.99) just for T9 when there was a half-ass working one in Handcent for free? I don't know, but I am happy with it.
Was wondering if other people used T9 on Handcent and/or EvenBetter keyboard and what are your thoughts.
Please dont let this thread become a QWERTY vs T9 fight. Just asking about T9 and which vendor do you prefer using?
I'm trying to change my "Account Picture" in Handcent so that I'm not a silhouette with a question mark above my face in the chat threads. Unfortunately, when I go to change my Account Picture, it does nothing. Instead, it changes my X's home screen background to whatever picture I had selected for my Account Picture.
View 18 Replies View Relatedwhen i first got my eris (in Jan.) i installed this because everyone on here was saying how amazing it is! So i installed it. It didn't work properly and kept force closing. So i installed chomp. Chomp is amazing and i freakin love it. I still see people talking about hancent so i decided to give it another try last night. My g/f sent me a picture message 3 times and i didnt get a single one of those messages with handcent. it would randomly erase texts as soon as i replied to them. I quickly uninstalled it and ran back to chomp.

Anyone have suggestions for what I'm doing wrong in setting it up?Is there somewhere that I'm missing that says USE BUBBLES or something? I have the colors and all set up, but it just shows the standard style. Under the bubble setting, I have Handcent selected.

But now in my notification bar there are two text notifications--one from Handcent and one from the native SMS app. So my question is: Is there a way to keep both SMS apps from showing up in the notification bar? Can I delete the native SMS application?

IMO, it looks better if you go into Handcent, options, bubble settings, and scroll all the way to the bottom and uncheck start lines of editor box so that it will only be 1 line rather than 2 to start out with. (That's also how it is in the screenshot).
By the way, you must uninstall Handcent and any font packs before installing this modded version. Props to sneaky_zekey over at alldroid.com for helping me figure all this out.
Has anyone checked to see if today's updated fixed the issue?
It said in the update notes on the website it fixes an issue with delivery fail...

I have been using Handcent for just under a month. I like it very much. I have a question though. Since I no longer use ATK and been observing using System Panel; I notice that both are still running ACTIVE. Handscent has more CPU time then Message. More then half my txts come up as a quick text over the lock screen.Is that pulling from Handcent or Message?

It's much faster, much prettier, and has all the features I need or want.
I just don't understand why Handcent seems to be the more popular SMS app.
I just got my droid and so far I'm loving it but encountered a couple of issues. I immediately went to download chompsms but it is nowhere to be found in the android market. I tried to install it from the web browser but it gives me an error message "There is a problem parsing the package".
So I installed handcent sms and it seems fine except when I go to compose a new message there are no contacts in the contact list even though I have all my contacts from my gmail account.
Re: the keyboard, how do I get it to work? I downloaded it, but can't figure out how to use it.Re: SMS, I now get notifications on Handcent SMS and the SMS program that came with the phone. I took the "Messages" widget off of home, but still get notifications of a new message; how do I stop that?

I tried that and when I use Handcent it still says the message is not delivered and sometimes it just flat out sends a blank message.The text is going to an email not an actual phone number but I'd like to keep handcent because I really like the pop up and the GUI. Would anyone have any other tips or tricks to help me get rid of this annoying error?Well i guess I forgot to mention some things.I updated my phone to 2.1 last night with the "new" leak I guess you call it.I tried restarting my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling handcent.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Handcent for awhile. Recently been having problems with duplicate messages in Handcent. I think it started when I switched to Koush's Rom, but I can't swear to it. I use Google Voice for all my calls and text, but I send and receive my text via Handcent using my GNumber. The default client has the duplicates tos, so I don't think it is Handcent's fault but either the phone is somehow duplicating the message or the problem is with GVoice when it forwards the text to me. I can send texts just fine and no one has complained to me about recieving double texts, so I believe it is only my incoming messages. It also isn't 100% of the time, but I would say around 80%.

The problem i have now is when i receive a message i get it on both, and i always have the stock one showing in the notifications bar after i check the handcent.Any help with this would be appreciated.
