Android :: Group A Set Of Controls As Focusable , Clickable Button?
Sep 3, 2010
Before I go down the difficult path of merging some button and relative layout code, I wanted to ask if there was an easy way to group a set of controls as a focusable, clickable button? My educated guess is no...
I have 3 text labels of various attributes (font size) which I would like to put on a button. Having HTML text *may* work, but I would lose all the niceties of styles and layout alignments.
Any other solution anybody can think of?

I am working on an Android project where a group of buttons needs to show on the bottom of every screen (activity) in the application. The group of buttons are basically a navigation bar. I want to know the best way to do this without creating new buttons for every activity. I have been around programming (C++/C#) for many years but am pretty new to Android and Java so if someone can point me in a general direction.

I'm subclassing InputMethodService to create my own personal keyboard. A lot of stuff already works quite nice. But now I'm playing around with the suggestion bar (also called "candiate view"). For now I'm just trying to load a static layout with one button in it:
@Override public View onCreateCandidatesView() {
LayoutInflater mLayoutInflater = LayoutInflater.from(this);
mView = mLayoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.suggestion_bar, null);
return mView;
}
The result looks like this: Which is exactly what I expected, but with one big issue: the button in the suggestion bar is not selectable or clickable at all.

I am new to android development. I wanted to make a button on one of my activities that I can drag to slide my current activity page to the next activity page. The button will be in the center of the screen and I want to be able to press and drag it horizontally to one end of the screen while I am dragging my button I can see my current activity page moving. It is actually like when one slides on the home screen and can control the sliding depending on how far he slides his finger on the screen.

My SGS2 with CM7 (currently 7.2) forgets which app I chose as home app. If I press the home button, the dialog to choose the home app pops up. If I select one, check default, it forgets this setting again, asks again, first it could last some hours, after a while this shortens to minutes. This bug occurs a about 4-5 weeks after a hard after reset, now the 3rd or 4th time. My guess is that some data storage file contains corrupt data.
I don't want to do another hard reset only for this one bug. So any way to delete data of an certain system app, a specific file or something else to reset the home app setting to a clear, hard reset like state?

I have the following, very simple test program for using a ListView. I create a ListView and set it as the content view. I set a ListAdapter which supplies the rows. There are 30 rows, and each row consists of a LinearLayout ViewGroup. Into that ViewGroup, I place a TextView and a Button. When I run the program, I find that I cannot select rows of the list. I can, however, scroll the list and click the button. If I remove the button from the LinearLayout (so that it contains only the TextView), then I am able to select rows of the list. I would like to be able to have buttons on my individual row views, and still be able to select rows of the list. On another forum, someone said that this was possible, but I am at a loss as to how to accomplish it.,.........................

I am wanting to allow the user of my android application the ability to set some parameters. The radio button is ideal for this situation. However, I don't like the radio buttons are rendered. Is it possible to change the radio button icon? For example, is it possible to create a custom layout for each row and in that layout reference my own icon and change the font et al.

I have this currently.
CODE:............
The TextView renders with the text that has the word "awesome" bolded and underlined (Yay). However in my view, I cannot focus the subregion of text I specified in the clickablespan. I can click on it with a touch event, but I cannot focus it. I am testing this on Android 1.5 + 2.1. I have also tried UrlSpan as well.
I have also tried instead of using a ClickableSpan, to actually attach an onClick listener to the entire block of text but that doesn't give the region focus, just makes clicking easier.

I'm having a several issues with ListViews.
The first problem is the layout that I use for every row of the listview. When I click in a row I've programmed that it expands with some other views. All works fine, but when I try to click again for shrink it, it seems that it's no focusable and doesn't highlight and, of course, it doesn't shrink. If I change the deprecated singleLine in the XML to inputType="text" all works fine but the row never highlithts.
The second problem goes when I try the method that Romain Guy said about the RelativeLayouts and the alignwithParentIfMissing. No matter whatever I try, but it seems impossible to implement in a ListView.
Another problem is with ellipsize, but it looks is a Android SDK bug and only works fine if I set singleLine in the attributes of the TextView
Well, I hope someone can helps me. I put the code of the listview and the XML of the layout. If you need some more code or information, as if you find any improvement or error.
CODE:..............
About the response of adamp, I've done this:
CODE:.......................
And finally, I have this listener:
CODE:..........
Once I've done that, there is no change about the behaviour of the listview. But I noticed that only I can expand the row clicking in the textview, if I click inside the row but in a empty area nothing happens.

I've spent about 6 hours on this so far, and been hitting nothing but roadblocks. The general premise is that there is some row in a ListView (whether it's generated by the adapter, or added as a header view) that contains an EditText widget and a Button. All I want to do is be able to use the jogball/arrows, to navigate the selector to individual items like normal, but when I get to a particular row -- even if I have to explicitly identify the row -- that has a focusable child, I want that child to take focus instead of indicating the position with the selector.I've tried many possibilities, and have so far had no luck.
Assuming there are other items in the adapter, using the arrow keys will move the selection up/down in the list, as expected; but when getting to the header row, it is also displayed with the selector, and no way to focus into the EditText using the jogball. Note: tapping on the EditText will focus it at that point, however that relies on a touchscreen, which should not be a requirement.ListView apparently has two modes in this regard:
1. setItemsCanFocus(true): selector is never displayed, but the EditText can get focus when using the arrows. Focus search algorithm is hard to predict, and no visual feedback (on any rows: having focusable children or not) on which item is selected, both of which can give the user an unexpected experience.
2. setItemsCanFocus(false): selector is always drawn in non-touch-mode, and EditText can never get focus -- even if you tap on it.
To make matters worse, calling editTextView.requestFocus() returns true, but in fact does not give the EditText focus.What I'm envisioning is basically a hybrid of 1 & 2, where rather than the list setting if all items are focusable or not, I want to set focusability for a single item in the list, so that the selector seamlessly transitions from selecting the entire row for non-focusable items, and traversing the focus tree for items that contain focusable children.

I noticed something odd. I have a listview with custom BaseAdapter, and getView() inflates a layout. On 1.6 SDK (I've been developing on a G1), if I set android:clickable="true" on the layout, then the item is NOT clickable (but otherwise the item is clickable). Is this the correct behavior? It seems backwards to me. Furthermore, no matter now matter how i set android:clickable for the same layouts using 2.2 SDK (run using emulator), the layout always is clickable... eh? I'm really bothered by this.

I need to display a pretty image of a map of Europe, and I want my app to, e.g. bring up a different activity, when the user clicks each country - each country on the map needs to have a different onClickListener (or equivalent). Essentially, I need to be able to call a different function when the user taps on France rather than Spain in an image such as this:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blank_map_of_Europe_cropped.svg How would I best go about this on Android?

I have a ImageView and draw some things on that view. Now I want to have the position of the click in the onClickListener. Although I think that's not really possible (storing the position in the onTouchListener is not working), I want to ask, if there is any other way to accomplish that? The goal is to have a image with some overlays, that should be clickable. I thought about AbsolutLayout, but that is depracated, so what now?
