Android :: Way To Make Links In A TextView Clickable?
Apr 29, 2010
Android is highlighting the links in the TextView, but they do not respond to clicks. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Do I have to set an onClickListener for the TextView in my activity for something as simple as this?

I have a TextView in my layout which has an attribute "clickable=true" set in XML. This is to allow it behave like a button with both text and icon. Now, I add to that TextView HTML text via call HTML.fromHtml(), and apply Linkify.addLinks after that. The problem is: in such configuration, links are not clickable. Is there any suggestion, how to allow user click on links, other from creating custom TextView-based class?

I've got a contextual menu that appears when a button is clicked. This menu has some links and after some seconds is hidden again. The problem is that after the menu has disappeared the links are still there. They are not shown but are clickable and the green border appears. And after some seconds they disappear. I've tryied many ways of hiding the menu: display: none, visibility: hidden, width: 0, height: 0, jquery hide, jquery fadeout... but none worked. Also hidding the links. Does anyone have a idea about what's happening? With the rest of the browsers it works without problem

I have a clickable TextView with a drawable as its background. I'm looking for the right way to implement a down-state drawable so the background changes when the user presses down. I have been able to almost perfectly replicate this behavior by listening for MotionEvents and changing the background when the user is pressing down.. The only thing that doesn't match up with system-wide down state behavior here is that if the user keeps holding down and moves their finger off the button, the state remains down until they release their finger from the screen... whereas in Maps overlays or Buttons or ListViews or anything else the state immediately goes back to off when the finger moves from the object.

I've got a ListView where each item in the list is contains several controls. One of the items is a checkbox, and I can check/uncheck it without problems. The other items are some TextViews and a WebView. I've got autoLink turned on and linksClickable turned on, but I can't get links to fire up the browser when I click on them. This applies to both TextView and WebView. I've tried changing the parent to a GridView instead of a ListView, playing with setFocusable(), and all that, but to no avail.
Is it even possible to have interaction on the TextView-based elements of a row in a ListView? It seems like that *should* be possible, but I've been banging my head against this problem for a few weeks with no progress. What's the secret?

I am trying to make the images I have clickable so that when they are pressed it will send the user to another page or link. How do I go about this? Currently each row in the gridview has 2 buttons. How will it know which item in the gridview is clicked so that it performs a certain action, specific to the item that was clicked.

I need to display a pretty image of a map of Europe, and I want my app to, e.g. bring up a different activity, when the user clicks each country - each country on the map needs to have a different onClickListener (or equivalent). Essentially, I need to be able to call a different function when the user taps on France rather than Spain in an image such as this:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blank_map_of_Europe_cropped.svg How would I best go about this on Android?

I have a ViewGroup (LinearLayout) which contains a couple of TextViews and one ImageView. I want to make this entire group clickable. However, clicks on the TextViews or ImageViews or on the area enclosed by the ViewGroup above doesn't result in the handler being called. Any suggestions on how I can make a whole ViewGroup clickable?

The twitter and facebook apps allow you to click on a username which in turn takes you to a new activity. How can this be achieved? I know there is Linkify, but it seems like it can only send you to a browser/phonecall/ etc. How can I make text that are like "@mynamehere" clickable so that it starts a new activity?

I have quite a complicated ListView. Each item looks something like this...
In my activity, when an item is created (getView() is called) I add dynamic TextViews to the LinearLayout inside the HorizontalScrollView (besides filling the other, simpler stuff out). Amazingly, performance is pretty good.
My problem is that when I added the HorizontalScrollView, my list items became unclickable. They don't get the orange background when clicked and they don't fire the OnItemClickedListener I have set up (to do a simple Log.d call).
How can I make my list items clickable again?
Edit: setting android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants" on the topmost LinearLayout seems to work. I'd like to know if there are other ways, though: what if I want focusable items in my list items?

I suspect that adding a certain letter/character to the beginning of my text will solve an alignment problem I am currently facing. Needless to say that I do not wish for this letter to appear.
Is there a way to tell a portion of the text to be invisible/transparent?
I reviewed the Spannable interface could not find anything related to visibility.

Is it possible to make TextView to break words in the middle and then move to another line, instead moving whole word that doesn't fit to the new line ? I have a width and number of lines of the TextView and a long string and want to calculate which portion of the String will fit exactly. the code is TextView vTextShort = (TextView) findViewById (R.id.story_text_partial); int lineHeight = vTextShort.getLineHeight(); int nmbLines = mesuredHeight / lineHeight; Paint mPaint = vTextShort.getPaint(); String shortTextStr = mStoryText; mStoryBreakIdx = 0; vTextShort.setLines(nmbLines ); int breakText = mPaint.breakText(mStoryText.toCharArray(), 0, mStoryText.length(), mesuredWidth, null); mStoryBreakIdx = breakText * nmbLines; It seems to calculate number of chars accurately but not accounting for the space that left after word is moved to a new line if it doesn't fit fully. And i'm looking on how to either break words in the middle or how calculate a width of the text that will fit correctly.
