Android :: Good Panorama Camera App
Aug 29, 2010
It is unclear to me why there is no good panorama camera Android application except for what some phone vendors provide on their hand set. Why is this? (By panorama camera ap, I mean one that takes subsequent pictures as one pans, and stitches them together semi-seamlessly. All the ones I can find just stack the pix end to end or cuts/pastes the images with no regard to blending the pixels.)I had a good on my previous Nokia 5800 Music Express (Symbian S60V5) and I understand that there are several on the iPhone. What's the deal? Not enough power on the chip? The JVM not fast enough?

I recently upgraded to FlyX and just today to RubiX, but I was too lazy to SBF to stock before upgrading (I just added it right over). I realized that doing so didn't fix the camera Panorama assist FC issue in FlyX, and I was wondering if there was a workaround. I have but 2 questions:
1. Does rubiX have the same camera FC issue? If not then I may consider SBF-ing and redoing everything.
2. Would downloading a stock 2.2 camera.apk and replacing the one I have fix the issue?

Here are a few tips with the Fascinate camera:
1. You can access Panorama mode from the Scene menu in the top left. With Panorama mode... you will be guided by a green box, when you get close to take the next snapshot, move very slowly... especially when the green box is almost centered on your screen. This will produce better pictures with less blur.
2. Turn on Anti-shake and Auto-contrast in the settings menu. Turn on Grid if you'd like extra help with taking better photos.
3. Long press the shutter button to auto focus before taking the photo. It's a two-stage button that will take a little bit to auto focus, but it's better than not doing it before taking a photo.

This was taken with no changes to the setting - right out the box. (Note: Tons of sarcasm in the title)

This application enables you to create a 3D panorama. It utilizes the orientation sensor to know the exact angle that the picture was taken.Just like Google's Sky Map,you can move your phone in a 3D space and see all the pictures as if your'e at the place you've shot them.I'm the developer of this application and will be happy to hear your feedbacks.

A few weeks back, when I was considering to switch to Galaxo or not, we had a thread here mentioning an odd issue,
Every 3rd picture taken with the camera app would be bad (or just a dud).
At the time, I couldn't reproduce the issue and it didn't bother me. But, just today afternoon (and a bit early in the week), I encountered something similar - every other picture had a 50% chance of being bad (just blank). It got to the point that the camera was just un-usable. I spent a good bit of time investigating this and I think I have an explanation. But first, let me walk you through what I did.
By default, I keep my camera to take 5 Megapixel shots at "super fine" setting. With that, I couldn't take any good shots AT ALL. I reduced it to 1M and "normal" setting. Things were a bit better, in that now only every other shot was bad. But, at least I was able to use the camera.
I use 3 desktop screens filled with widgets. I disabled most of my widgets and reduced the number of screens to 2. (I'm running Drakaz's darksense theme for Galaxo 1.6.3 ). With this, the camera was MUCH better. In fact, I could take 5 shots continuously without any problems (testing at home).
In some ways, it looks like I was stretching the limits of my i7500 a bit too much and so, the camera just didn't work right, but I can live with fewer screens and fewer widgets.
I miss the Handcent SMS widget, but from what I observed, its too resource-intensive for my needs. The only widgets I use now are from "Jorte" , the organizer app (really good too!) and "SMS Im Away".
So, for those of you who need the camera in working order, consider disabling a few screens and widgets.

find a Scanner app that will let me scan a page by literally *scanning* it with my camera, slowly sweeping the page. Similar to how you can take panoramic photos, and it stitches the images together behind the scenes. I want to use OCR to scan a page into text, but the I find the quality usually isn't good enough for accurate OCR.

After looking at the photos thread I gave the panoramic setting on the stock camera app a try. It's really cool but I hate the fact that it is limited to 640x480 segments. Is there a way to bump up the resolution in panorama mode? If not are there any camera apps that will take high res panoramas using the same method that the stock app uses?

From the Greek guy that recently compared Super Amoled vs Amoled vs Lcd....
He says that the 5mpx camera is excellent in day but in dark places without the flash it is not very good....the 720p is nice but he is not impressed.

The android camera API is bound to one camera device, but in some situation we have lots of camera device in a netbook or handset. We can't use the same application with different camera device dynamically. For example, we can select the camera device in the VLC (Video LAN Client) on windows because there is direct show on it, but we can't do that on android by camera API without changing the framework. Guys, is there any mistake at my understand? Is there any plan to modify framework to support this situation ?

So I spent the last hour or more in my backyard in 107 degrees taking pictures of flowers at stock settings with both phones. NOT an easy task I will tell you that. My back hurts, but besides that... I did my best to show the best quality of BOTH cameras, because they are both great. I realize that not everyone will agree with me, or will think I messed with something in my pictures. But these are all completely stock settings, not messed with at all. I only touched the flash on/off button.
My decision is I like the X camera better, it is easier to focus, and much snappier. Plus designated camera button! I found on the Incredible while the pictures look great on the phone itself and in gallery, that as soon as they were uploaded the colours looked washed out and not as great. I know this is due to the AMOLED screen. But both overall great. My decision is the X though.

NOTE: Inc would NOT focus any closer without being extremely blurry, tried a gazillion times.

I'm Trying to fine tune the Camera settings and was wondering if you guys changed the settings around and got better Pictures/Video and what did you change your settings to? I'm more concerned about fine tuning the video Settings even though i know both the Camera/Camcorder share the same settings.

Are there any good pdf readers that save where you are up to in a pdf document so that you don't have to try and find the page you are up to every time you open the document. That is the one feature that the standard one is missing (unless I am just not seeing it)

Considering (heavily!) the Evo but the boss just asked me how well it handles things like pdf's and .doc's and such. We're coming over from blackberries and I'm having trouble finding anything definitive about whether the Evo (or android in general) can handle those things natively. I see that there are apps that do it but come with mixed reviews. Just wondering what your experiences and/or expectations are.
