Android :: Getting At XML Files Inside .jar.res.drawable

Oct 16, 2010

I've seen references to folks modifying the XML files contained inside the Android.jar.res.drawable folder and then copying them to their drawable folder for use in their project.

But I can't open these files, instead I get the following error.

Could not open the editor: org.eclipse.ui.PartInitException: Editor could not be initialized.

How do I open these files so I can use them?

Android :: How To Animate A Drawable Inside An App Widget?

Oct 18, 2009

This question was raised a few months ago here: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... which suggests that animations cannot be done within an App Widget.

However, I'm sure I've seen some App Widgets animating... I have an App Widget which contains an ImageView. When the user clicks on this Widget I would like the ImageView to continuously rotate until a certain task (think synchronization) completes. This can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Android :: Animating A Drawable On A Canvas Inside A Surfaceview

Sep 2, 2010

Is there a way to animate drawables on a canvas using the android built-in animation classes?

Ive been modeling my test application, a game, after the example apps lunarlander and jetboy. They contain a lot of reusable code, but they manually update the drawable objects in real time. It seems like using the android animation built ins would be so much easier since they provide the type of animation I needŽa simple linear movement.

Is there a way to do this, or am I better off updating my canvas in real time much like the example apps.

If there is a way, could anyone get me started with some sample code? I am currently inheriting SurfaceView in my class.

Android :: Many Image Files In Res / Drawable - Access In Droid?

Feb 11, 2010

I have to make a dedicated image viewer app for Android 2.x.

There are too many jpeg image files: about 2000~ jpegs, over 100MB.

I want access the image files with their file names,
but I couldn't find such an example.

By the way, is it okay to put many image files in /res/drawable folder?

I heard that the android application cannot be installed on sdcard and

the program repository is very small so 100MB app cannot be installed generally.

I found some examples which download the large data files on sdcard online,

but I cannot run a web server to host the data files,

and I must upload the fully packaged program on Android Market. (Should I build one apk file?)

What are the best practices for managing too many resource images (or something) in Android?

Android :: Drawable Resource Images - JPEG Files Supported

May 28, 2010

Can I have sub-folders to hold my drawable resources. For example can I store an image in, say, 'res/drawable/content/images/myimage.jpg' and then find that resource via a call to:
id = context.getResources().getIdentifier("com.mycompany.myprog:drawable/ content/images/myimage", null, null);
I have tried this and it doesn't seem to be working (but I may have something wrong). Is it supposed to work or do all the resources need to be in the root drawable folder? Also, are jpeg files supported and drawable resources?

Android :: How Are PNG Files Defined As Drawable Objects Resized Based On The Resolution

Oct 8, 2010

I have a PNG file that is 32x32 pixels. I use 8 of these as drawables in a row for my app. These drawables are not in the hdpi, mdpi, or ldpi folders. I've found that when starting any of the 3 standard size emulators, the screen view with all 8 drawables looks pretty much the same.

I note that the ldpi emulator I'm using (QVGA) has a resolution of 240x320. 8 x 32 = 256, so since I can see all my drawables (and space in-between) I'm betting something is changing their size.

I've read the Supporting Multiple Screens document at the Android developers page, but I still don't understand what is actually happening. Could you put your own words to explain what is happening to the size of my drawables and how the SDK knows to automatically modify them?

Android :: ScrollView With Buttons Inside / No Response Until Second Click On Any Button Inside

Oct 30, 2010

I've been a couple of days trying to solve this thing but I can'f figure it out.The problem is, simple activity, with simple layout, ScrollView -> LinearLayout -> and a lot of buttons inside the layout (within the scroll content). Everything works just fine but one tricky thing. When I click a button let's say at the top of the scroll content and inmediatelly I scroll down to the bottom of the content and I click other button there, nothing happens until I click a second time and all come to normal again. This can be reproduced anytime and it's code independent (i've tried more than 20 scenarios). I've not much experience in android yet but looks like the scroll listener stops the onclick listener or something like that.

Android :: ListView Inside LinearLayout Inside ScrollView

Jul 7, 2009

So I've been extremely frustrated by this for a long time now.I've posted before, but can't seem to find a good solution. My goal is to have something pretty much exactly like the installed application details page in the Android Market.I need a list of items displayed along with other content above the list, and would like the content above to scroll up along with the list (exactly like the application details does for the "My Review" and other descriptive info).Due to responses to my previous posts, I came to believe that it really wasn't possible to do this with a ListView. So rather than using a ListView, I refactored my code to use a simple LinearLayout and add individual View items to the list, thinking I could just set each View as clickable and add an OnClickListener to each View in the LinearLayout. That's not working at all though, and now I'm getting even more frustrated. If someone can help me get the OnClickListener working, then I think it'll work, but I do need a separator for the LinearLayout. How do I add a separator like the one used for ListView to my LinearLayout?

Android :: Add XML Drawable In Eclipse

Oct 19, 2010

According to official documentation Google says that "Once you've defined your Drawable in XML, save the file in the res/drawable/ directory of your project." is the way to add a XML drawable to the project. But when I created the project ADT created 3 different drawable folders for mdpi, hdpi, and ldpi. So when I wanted to create my XML drawable, I right click on my drawable-hdpi folder and select "Add new Android XML file", and there I have to select what kind of XML file I want to create, but there isn't "drawable" to select. If I create new text file and save it as button_drawable.xml Eclipse says that there is an Error in the file and that It can't build my project.

Android :: Converting Canvas To Drawable?

Sep 5, 2009

Is it possible to convert a Canvas to Drawable?I may be really off in my solution, so if you have a better suggestion, please do tell me. This is what I'm trying to do.I'm trying to create a custom RadioButton. to set different states of the radio button, I need to use this parameter and one of the parameter to addState is Drawable. I know I can easily provide an image file and use it as a Drawable, but I want to do some image manipulation to the image before using it.There is a tutorial in ApiDemo called AlphaBitmap. It uses the onDraw method of a View to change a PNG file to full red and draw something with a gradient. So I customized it to shade an icon with gradient. So the problem now is that this is a View, and the View works perfectly fine if I add this View to the main view. But i want to convert this View to Drawable so I can use it as one of the parameter in addState. What I really want to achieve is to have different colour shades for different state of the RadioButton without providing different images to do so.

Android :: Gallery3D Apk Does Not Contain Drawable Hdpi?

I found that the whole drawable-hdpi/ (it really contains in the Gallery3D source code res/) is not in the apk package, and cause lack of drawable-hdpi/icon_cancel.png. The apk only contains drawable-mdpi/ and drawable/. My question is why the drawable-hdpi/ resource is dropped when building apk? Per my understanding is that, which drawable-* resource loading is determined on runtime, and all the drawable-* should be in the apk package.

When an image is placed in drawable-hdpi it automatically replaces the mdpi version. I need to know when this happens beacuseI am using bitamp.resize() to fix the image sizes. The problem is that the getDensity() method (in the if statment after the && ) returns the screen density and I need the original bitmap density. This allays matched the screenDPI and returns false. I have a lot of artwork and do not want to duplicate everything for every size screen. I am trying to just create hdpi bitmaps for the ones that don't look good when re-sized.

Android :: Drawable Or Uri For Notification Icon

Mar 25, 2009

The Notification API allows to set a drawable resource id for the icon of a notification. This drawable resource id is used to put the icon in the status bar and in the expanded window shade. This is a limitation if the icon images are to be represented by a Drawable or from a content provider at runtime. I propose that the Notification class adds fields (or methods) that would allow to set a Drawable or an Uri for the notification icon. This Drawable or Uri would then be used by the system notification service to put the icon in the status bar and in the expanded window shade.
