Android :: Get Content Uri From File Path?

Jun 9, 2010

I know the absolute path of an image (say for eg, /sdcard/cats.jpg). Is there any way to the content uri for this file? Actually in my code I download an image and save it at a particular location. In order to set the image in an ImageView currently I open the file using the path, get the bytes and create a bitmap and then set the bitmap in the ImageView. This is a very slow process, instead if I could get the content uri then I could very easily use the method ImageView.setImageUri(uri)

Android :: When Video Duration Or Date_modified Attribute Available Through Content Provider

Aug 8, 2010

I'm having some trouble accessing attributes like DURATION and DATE_MODIFIED of video and image. My app access these attributes for both type of data but if I take a picture or shoot a video the related attributes are not immediately available through content provider e.g. for DURATION for that specific video it returns 0.

If I restart the phone the attribute for the newly shoot video or picture taken becomes available.

The other way to make the attributes available is to plug in and out your phone to a computer through usb cable. Once that is done the attributes are available.

Android :: Possible To Define Each Tab's Content In A Separate XML File?

Jun 28, 2010

I would like to define each tab's content in a different XML file so the visual editor in Eclipse can be used. That is, without all of the tabs being laid over each other. The visual editor doesn't even seem to work with the XML example provided here: [link text][1]
[1]: http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html "Here", It just has a Null pointer exception.

I have tried to define each tap in it's own file, for example. code...
And when adding the tab I use:

mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_in").setIndicator("Input").setContent(R.layout.input));

But this causes the application to crash on launch. Is there any way to do this?

Android :: Switching Content Providers For Same Content URI

Aug 12, 2009

This may seem like a stupid question but I need to be sure. I was wondering if it was possible to pro-grammatically change the Content Provider used when making a query given a Content URI. The reason being I need to know if it's possible to force the Calendar/Contacts applications to read from a different database via a different Content Provider temporarily while my application is running, so that I can reuse those applications to display my own data. Since the Content URI s are hard coded in each of these applications the only way it might be possible is if we could somehow temporarily change the Content Provider used for a given URI. I know this probably isn't possible, I just need to show it isn't. Could someone confirm this can't be done?

Android : Know The Size Of The Video File

Dec 3, 2009

I have written a small video player application. In that some video files are playing well. But some are not playing at all. I am thinking that this is because of the video size.

So I just want to let the users know the size of the video and to show an alert saying because of this size, this file can't be played.

How to know the size of the video?

Android : Play A Video File

Jan 20, 2010

I have a URL for a video file which I need to play using the native Video-player of the handset. I figured using Intent.ACTION_VIEW and setting the URI as Intent data, I am able to achieve the aforementioned on G1 except HTC hero. In case of Hero, I have to explicitly set the class Name in the Intent to start the default Video Player: intent.setClassName("com.htc.album","com.htc.album.ViewVideo")

However, I am not comfortable with this approach as it might break on other Android devices.

1. What would be the best way to play this video url via Intent, irrespective of the handset?

2. How to conditionally setClassName in Intent, specific to a Handset?

Writing a standalone Video Player for our app is NOT an option we can afford at the moment.
