I just switched from Ubuntu 8.10 to Ubuntu 9.04 and noticed that Eclipse Content Assist isn't working anymore. I tried the following variations on Ubuntu 9.04: Eclipse 3.4.2 or 3.5 (cleaned / reinstalled) with ADT 0.93 and Android SDK 1.5r3 Using Sun Java 1.6. No combination works. I've reinstalled everything a bunch of times. I have another machine with Ubuntu 8.10 and Eclipse 3.4.2 with ADT 0.91 or 0.93 and Code Assist works for all those. I just refuse to develop without code-assist and I know lot of people would agree with me on that.

I got a huge problem with the Android Development Tools ADT running in Eclipse Galileo (3.5.1) on Ubuntu 9.10, 64bit.On this platform, I do not manage to see any property edit dialogs for layout properties. E.g. the one where you can select a string resource ID for text fields, or a drawable ID for image fields or backgrounds.Whenever I click on the button next to the property value - nothing happens, except this button disappears.Properties with a list of possible values, e.g. "wrap_content" or "fill_parent" are displayed in a dropdown box directly in the properties field. On a different system I work in a Windows environment with Eclipse 3.4 and the same ADT: no problems whatsoever, everything works fine, the dialogs come perfectly.Does anyone know what to do here? Where's the problem? Why does Eclipse not tell me that something goes wrong?

If I try to use my HTC Desire to test Apps I'm developing with Eclipse, then in the screen where I can choose the emulators and connected devices, it is only listed as unknown and a few question marks. I read that on Windows you need HTC Sync respectively the drivers in this program, but how can I solve this problem on Ubuntu?

so, i started developing an android app a few weeks ago. my very first one, and the first java code i've written since college (about 8 years or so). it's progressing rather nicely, actually...except that yesterday when i sat down to work, eclipse no longer is stopping at my breakpoints. i've tried everything i could find online...project -> clean, using a different version of the JVM...i haven't been able to get debugging to work.
obviously this is killing my development right now as i have no way to sort out a force close i've encountered.. i'm ready to smash my monitor..even more so because it worked just fine up until yesterday and i didn't change a thing on the development PC.

I have tried searching but did not find anything that would help me. I just installed Ubuntu on my laptop to try it out and start learning. I have been using easy tether with my vista with great success. Not sure how to configure Ubuntu to work. I downloaded and installed the i386 package in Ubuntu can't seem to figure out what else to do. Normally I would look for the running program in the bottom right corner and right click and select automatically connect when plugged into usb. However, I don't see easy tether application anywhere, just when I re-run the .deb package, it tells me it is already installed.

I am slowly trying to figure out maps... I want to be able to click on a point and pop up a message. Toast seemed the way to go. So I added an "onTap" handler in my class that extends ItemizedOverlay (the class is called HelloItemizedOverlay) and then tried to grab the Toast example... But I am seeing Eclipse tell me that the line is in error no matter what I do...
My code is below:

Inadvertently, I blocked eclipse from accessing the Internet, which prevented the emulator from running (see my other post). Once I removed the block, eclipse and the emulator worked again. Anyone knows why is network access required for eclipse to work?

I spent a full day to get my Android SDK sources in my setup and compiled it successfully by doing the File System for x86 and also the SDK, everything was fine but when I tried to use it in my environment (Eclipse) and tried to compile my application (which is working fine on Froyo 2.2), I'm seeing some errors, which seems that I did not get the entire SDK with all the base packages included.
Steps to reproduce:
# repo sync to android sources. # make # make sdk # make Eclipse to point to the new SDK, generated at: .../out/host/ linux-x86/sdk/android-sdk_eng.david_linux-x86/ # generate a new AVD # launch it and run the application
If I'm missing something else.

I am developing on Windows machine.I was working quite well until yesterday, when I saw the the update prompt and updated my ADT plugin. Today when I tried debugging my test project, I experienced either one the following cases:
1) Logcat stops forever on the message "sending wait chunk".
2) Logcat shows the following message, and test project fails:
3) Eclipse stops responding.
The above cases happens even when the test unit contains nothing. Also it just doesn't not work in debug. The test case runs successfully if it is not in debug mode (But there are still some glitches, like Logcat sometimes won't emit debug messages).

When I run the app in Eclipse, Android emulator starts but says "Bluetooth is not available". Need urgent help with this.
Also need help with running/installing an app on real phone. I connected my HTC Desire (Android 2.2), enabled USB debugging and run the app from Eclipse. Emulator starts as usual instead of the app running on my phone.

I'm having a small problem with some onClick events, it's probably my .java file, the problem is once i test the app, virtual or real device, there are 2 buttons, 1 for Facebook(button1) and 1 for Twitter(button2), the Twitter one won't work until the Facebook one has been "clicked" and then you have to press back to then "click" the Twitter button.
I'm new to this so knowing my luck the java file is stating that "button2 will only work once button1 has been clicked"

I am using eclipse 3.5 with the ADT plugin.when I view layout xml files, i get two tabs in the view the source code view and a graphical view.the graphical view almost never works for any of my layouts.it usually shows "NullPointerException: null" at the top and nothing else. when it does work, it often does not match what i get in the simulator or device.it seems like this thing simply is not ready for prime time; although the idea is very cool.has anyone else had much success with it?

Has anyone been able to get the sdk version 1.5 to work with Ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit)? I have tried the upgrade from and it fails with: Eclipse throws a "An SWT Error has occurred" message then I get a second dialog saying: pingUsageServer failed Android SDK Ping pingUsageServer failed. Anyone else getting this? I tried to do a reinstall of the sdk and eclipse and I have the same issue. Everything worked great with SDK 1.1 R1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It appears as though the emulated GSM portion of the android emulator is not working on my system. After scouring the web I have yet to find anyone with information about what might be causing the problem. When I fire up my avd (any avd), it says "No Service" If I go to Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators, I get an error message: "Error while searching for networks" I am running Ubuntu 9.04 x64 desktop edition. I have SDK 1.6r1 downloaded. I'm hoping this is a simple thing to fix.

Is Ubunto 9.04 compatible with development in Android? Before i ugrade, deploy on device was normal. Now, using 9.04, doesn't recognize it using "adb devices". This below is already set on my ubuntu: 1. Login as root and create this file: /etc/udev/rules.d/50- android. rules.
For Gusty/Hardy, edit the file to read: SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666"
For Dapper, edit the file to read: SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666" 2. Now execute: chmod a+rx /etc/udev/rules.d/50-android.rules

This is my first post and it should be an interesting one. Today I was trying to install Ubuntu on my rooted Galaxy S Vibrant. But, When I was moving the Contents of the download to my SD card, I realized that I didn't have enough space. I had a 2 gig SD card and the contents were just over 2 gigs (Plus the SD card really only had about 1.9 gigs) so obviously THAT wouldn't work. So I asked around and someone said that they had dropped the ubuntu contents into the internal memory instead of the SD card on their Moto DROID. Basically I am wondering if it is possible to do the installation process through my 16gb internal memory instead of the sd card. So for example in the guide telling you how to install ubuntu on android where it says to access the files for installation, they wouldn't be in the SD card, they would be in the internal memory.

I shut down my PC (running Ubuntu 8.10, fully updated) overnight and when I booted the following day, 'adb devices' failed to recognize my stock, OTA-updated, RC30 G1. I followed the instructions listed here:
http://code.google.com/android/intro/develop-and-debug.html#developin...
evan@evan-desktop:~$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/50-android.rules SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666" evan@evan-desktop:~$ adb kill-server && adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached emulator-5554 offline
To answer some preliminary questions:
- Yes, I have my phone on.
- It's on a USB 2.0 port.
- Yes, it sees the emulator(s), but not my device.
- Yes, "USB debugging" is enabled on the phone (and I tried toggling it).
- I've rebooted both the phone and the PC.
- I'm using the latest the 1.0_r2 SDK from the site.
- I'm on 64-bit Ubuntu, but it also fails to work in my 32-bit VM (that also previously worked)

During my very short time experience with Android, I found that Linux is most suitable environment for development compared to Windows. Please correct me if I'm too inexperienced. My question is, Which version of the Linux is best suitable. [Redhat/Fedora/Ubuntu..] Please let me know. Is Linux version really matters.
