Android : Get Com.google.googlenav Library Package?
Mar 11, 2009
I am working on a GPS navigation App. I notice that com.google.googlenav Package is available in Android SDK-m5,but in the source code, there is nothing about googlenav. However, the package is necessary for drive direction development on the device. Could anyone please tell me from where I can get that googlenav library?

I'm learning via a few books w/downloadable code. One of the examples I'd like to get running won't even compile because the IDE can't find/import the com.google.android.maps library/package, which I found odd since I have everything possible installed that the SDK offers. The book info on the publisher site was not helpful either.
I'm using Eclipse (build 20090920-1017) with the ADT 0.9.5 plugin. SDK is fully updated (all available packages installed, including android 1.1 api 2 rev. 1 through android 2.0.1 api6 rev 1, and google apis 3 rev 3 through 6 rev 1.)

I have done some cusomtizations on general user interface behavior. I would put those features into my applications. Therefore, I package my source code as a jar and add this external library to my applications.
As my cusomtization include some inflation of xml files, I put those resource in my package. However, when I finished compiled my application and ran it, it reports error. It seems cannot locate the xml file in the jar. (My debugger stop while inflate the xml file). Do I miss any step to use my jar file?

I have a TomTom GPS that has a very out of date map. It will cost me $70 to update it, and for that amount of money, I might has well pony up the $30 more and get a brand new unit. But, after looking into the new Google Maps Navigation feature, I'm not sure I will need a stand alone GPS unit, once I take delivery of my D-X.What, if any, features would I lose by using my D-X as my primary nav device vs. a dedicated GPS like a TomTom or Garmin Nuvi? Has anyone else made this transition?

I'm looking for a zip file with every single google application. I use a lot of google apps and change devices very often and it would mean a lot to me. I've downloaded half a dozen files today claiming to be what I'm looking for but they each had less than a dozen apps.

I have an Android library project that makes calls to PreferencesManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences.
I have 2 version of my app, paid/free, and they are not able to access the preferences stored by the library code.
Can someone tell me the right way to store values in SharedPreferences in library code and have the values available to projects that include the library?

According to this SDK guide, unit-testing a Library project can be achieved by creating a standard application project, reference the Library project and then instrument the application for unit testing. However, when I do this and launch the test application I get the message. No tests found with test runner 'JUnit 3".I'm using Eclipse and the Android ADT plugin, all latest versions.the projects compile just fine. The test project also installs fine to the emulator. But in the console I can see that it looks for <library>.apk, which of course doesn't exist since I'm compiling this as a library into the test project.

But you know, on G1 with official OS image, /system/lib is readonly. I tried to call System.setProperty to set java.library.path to the location stored the thired shared library before load jni library, but the issue still exists.

i work on custom Application Manager and try to get the disk usage of installed package. So PackageManager.getpackageSizeInfo was removed from SDK on 0.9->1.0 update android.content.pm. PackageStats(String pkgName)(cacheSize, codeSize, dataSize) returns always "0" Size of phys. file (java.io.File) in "/data/app" seems wrong/not completely. Has anybody any solution to get the total disc space used by an installed package?

I've been trying to upload my music to Google Music, and I ran into an issue yesterday when I saw that it stopped uploading. I had it running for about a week and I have roughly 3700 songs on my computer (in iTunes). It stopped at around 2400 songs and won't add anymore, and I'm not entirely sure why. Of those 3700 songs, only about 300 were purchased from iTunes, the rest are CDs or songs that I permanenly borrowed during the Napster days. I double checked the songs that are missing, and there really isn't too much rhyme or reason as to why they're not there.

As I understand, the three ways of distributing my application are via Jar, Android Library and Android Library Project.Jar - cannot contain resources or XML layouts (so this is out for me)Android Library - I don't really know how this works but the Google API uses it..Android Library Project - includes resources but allows the client free rein on the code as it is distributed as source. If I am to create a closed source application that requires drawables and XML files that I want to distribute to other Android programmers, what should I use? And can someone direct me to a tutorial on creating an Android Library?

I've tried hiding my custom tones that I've downloaded at various points in different places on my phone (T-Mobile Galaxy S4), inclding the external SD, but to no avail. For example, I added a high quality .mp3 clip of a old rotary phone ring to use as my ringtone, I put it straight into the ringtones system folder.
Very next time that I start up Google Music, there's new stuff from 'unknown artist," low and behold, the ringtone.
Super annoying, part of the reason I was paying for all access to use Google Music was to have a clean, auto-organized library. I don't want all of my sounds system-wide added to my library, and I can't seem to find any way to change the folders it searches, or even to remove it from the library within the app once it is added.

So, I was sitting here, and adding music to my library with google play music.. Now... I think the big GMan might have overlooked something. I had around 200 songs uploaded from my computer to Play. Now, I got the trial of All Access, and ive been adding a bit of music with the search and add feature.. So then i thought.. Maybe this is a free way to get audio files. I went to the "Music Manager" application on my computer, and i hit "download my library" and its now downloading all 291 songs, allowing transfer to any device (Like an iPod) 91 of which, keep in mind, I had added via the search feature from the Play Music app on my phone. So, is this a glitch overlooked by Google? Or is it intended to be this way?

I extracted com.google.android.map.jar and com.google.android.map.xml and Map.apk files from the another development device which has google maps in it. I started with following procedure..
1. adb -d shell
2. # mount -o rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system mount -o rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system mount: Device or resource busy. I can't copy the above files to the /system/framework/ , /system/etc/ permissions/ , and /system/app to these directories.
C:>adb -d push C:GoogleMAPSMaps.apk /system/framework/ failed to copy 'C:GoogleMAPSMaps.apk' to '/system/framework// Maps.apk': Read-only file system
Is there any way to change the system image to Read write mode?

I'm attempting to override an Android View class to tweak the functionality just slightly. But I need to modify a field that does not have a setter method. I've placed the subclass in a package called android.widget. Why can't I access any of the package-private member fields? I notice that the compiler says they "cannot be resolved," rather than not being accessible. Does this have something to do with how Android.jar is built?

Android AMF client library Aftek has extensive experience in developing enterprise Flex applications. We have used BlazeDS extensively and we believe that it would nice to provide all the benefits provided by AMF for Android applications as well. We have developed an Android AMF client library which would enable Android application developers use the same extensively. The Android AMF client library supports remoting and secured remoting. This will allow all android applications to use the existing backend like .NET, Java, or PHP. The implementation is asynchronous in nature providing success and failure callbacks. This allows application to perform other tasks without blocking the application. We are currently performing some performance benchmarking and plan to release our library very soon. We would also be incorporating the messaging feature as well.
Android RTMP client library:Aftek has extensive experience in developing voip and audio/video and media applications. Media applications has a huge market and there would be quite a few people eager to develop the medial applications on Android. We believe that it would nice to provide all the benefits provided by RTMP for Android applications as well. We are developing an Android RTMP client library which would enable Android application developers use the same extensively. Our Android RTMP client library would support some add-ons that would help developers to deliver robust media solutions.

I have installed the new SDK 1.6r1 on Windows and I realise that 1.6 does not included the older APIs so ran the android.bat tool to download them. The "available packages" only offer me SDK Platform Android 1.1 API 2; I was also hoping to download 1.0 API 1 as I am developing an application that only needs very basic functionality and I would like to be compatible with as many devices as possible.

My Android application can be divided into a client UI layer and a API layer. i would like to deploy them as separate "applications" so that the API layer can be reused.
In Eclipse, i write them as 2 separate Android projects. In the client UI project, i declare the API project in its build path (Project -> Properies -> Java Build Path -> Projects).
When deploying the client UI project through Eclipse (on my actual G1 phone), it automatically deploys the API project (packaged into APK) as well.
However, when launching the client UI application, i hit this error:
CODE:.............
Looking around, it seems like i should declare uses-library under application in the manifest file for the UI client.
Question is, what should i put under android:name for uses-library? Dev guide says "the name of the library" but what is the name of the library? (i mean, in my API "application", i haven't declared any library name anywhere.)

Just wanted to know, if we participate in ADC2 will we be required to use a different package name (to the ADC one) for our app *after* the competition is over? Reason for this is that I'm wondering whether I should assign a separate package name now for ADC and keep my standard one for later.

I'm looking for a way to get the certificates from a package that are used to sign it. Using the PackageInfo class it is possible to get the signatures. But what can I do with signatures if I don't get the public keys to verify these.
The next question I have where does the PackageInstaller verify the signed APK file? The PackageParser class loads the APK file into a JarFile object but does this automatically verify the signature?
