I want to try some fade/blur effect like in winamp visualization plug- ins. getPixel/setPixel way is very slow and do not allow to achieve decent frame rate. Direct access to pixels array could speed up processing.

To any normal android Widgets based on View( Button ,TextView ...), I wanna manipulate the bitmap data before it is drawn on screen. I have tried the onDraw(Canvas canvas) method, But when the programe hit the onDraw(Canvas canvas) method, I think the bitmap has already been drawn to screen.
If there is any way that I can get the bitmap data before it's drawn to screen, so I can prevent it from being displayed , but grab the data, put it on the intent for some further use?

In ActionScript development, there are two classes, Bitmap, and BitmapData. Bitmap uses information from BitmapData to create a Bitmap. Is there an equivalent to BitmapData in the android API? I did some digging and BitmapFactory seems to be the closest, however, I'm facing problems with it.
I tried Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decode Resource(getResources(), R.drawable.buster);
As that was what I was seeing in most of the examples I came across, but it is telling me that the method getResources is undefined. I'm not really sure what is causing this as in another tutorial I did, getResources didn't cause any problems.
I'm not looking to simply draw a bitmap to the screen, I want to copy a section of the bitmap and place it on a new bitmap. In ActionScript, the method is bitmapData.copyPixels(), and I'm looking for a similar method in the Android API. The closest thing I could find was copyPixelsToBuffer(), but I'm not really sure if that does what I think it does.

My app will have an SQLite database with some embedded JPEG images -- basically the binary contents of a JPEG file stored as a Blob in the database. Can someone point me in the general direction of where to start to figure out how to convert this "array of bytes" into a Bitmap object that can be further manipulated and displayed in an ImageView?

I have a very large image and I only want to display a section the size of the display (no scaling), and the section should just be the center of the image. Because the image is very large I cannot read the entire image into memory and then crop it. This is what I have so far but it will give OutOfMemory for large images. Also I don't think inSampleSize applies because I want to crop the image, not lower the resolution.
Uri data = getIntent().getData();
Input Stream is = getContentResolver().openInputStream(data);
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(is, null, null);
Any help would be great?

I am 1) taking a picture and 2) then draw another Bitmap on top of it 3) then I store it
I am doing it as follows and it works on the emulator.
On the device I get a OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget android.graphics.Bitmap.nativeCopy(Native Method) android.graphics.Bitmap.copy(Bitmap.java:199) in the line copy the Bitmap to get a mutable Bitmap.
CODE:...........
What I am asking:
a) Is there a better way to do what I am doing? 1) take a picture 2) draw another Bitmap on top of it 3) then I store it
b) What is the best way to create a mutable Bitmap from the picture I just took with the camera?
In my app, resolution is not an issue. If it works better for small photos that would be fine.

I have two questions actually:
Is it better to draw an image on a bitmap or create a bitmap as resource and then draw it over a bitmap? Performance wise... which one is better?
If I want to draw something transparent over a bitmap, how would I go about doing it?
If I want to overlay one transparent bitmap over another, how would I do it?

I am new to this site, and I come with a question about Android.
Is there any way to convert a Bitmap to grayscale? I know how to draw a grayscale bitmap (using canvas operations: http://www.mail-archive.com/android-developers@googlegroups.com/msg38890.html) but I really need The actual bitmap in gray colors (or at least something that could be converted to a bitmap later on).
Do I have to implement it by hand (pixel by pixel operations)?
I've searched a lot, and still could not find. Anyone knows a easy/efficient way to do it?

I am trying to build an Android application which can take several photos taken by the camera, and merge them into one giant image. For example, I might take three photos and arrange them in a vertical stack for output as a single image. Ideally, I'd like to be able to keep the images at the original size. Unfortunately, using Bitmap.createBitmap() causes an OutOfMemoryException before even approaching the size of one photo of camera dimensions. Is this possible? Or do I just need to resort to scaling the photos before trying to merge them into a single Bitmap?

I will try to explain what exactly I need to do.
I have 3 separate screens say A,B,C. There is another screen called say HomeScreen where all the 3 screens bitmap should be displayed in Gallery view and the user can select in which view does he wants to go.
I have been able to get the Bitmaps of all the 3 screens and display it in Gallery view by placing all the code in HomeScreen Activity only. Now, this has complicated the code a lot and I will like to simplify it.
So, can I call another Activity from HomeScreen and do not display it and just get the Bitmap of that screen. For example, say I just call HomeScreen and it calls Activity A,B,C and none of the Activities from A,B,C are displayed. It just gives the Bitmap of that screen by getDrawingCache(). And then we can display those bitmaps in Gallery view in HomeScreen.
I hope I have explained the problem very clearly.
Please let me know if this is actually possible.

Is there way to dump the current screen to a bitmap in Android?
And what about dump screen of other applications? For example, running a service background, the foreground app could send an intent to start the service, and capture the current screen and save as a bitmap.

I am banging my head against the wall trying to create a Bitmap from a Path object (android.graphics.Path). Is there any way to do this? I've browsed through most of the classes now but can't seem to find any way to do it.
Actually, what I have is a Path that consists of many cubic Bezier curves. It is really expensive to draw with canvas.drawPath(). So I figured that I could perhaps "cache" the Bitmap of this Path by converting the Path to a Bitmap once and then just drawing the Bitmap every time instead of calling canvas.drawPath().
Is there any way to create a Bitmap from this Path?
Or is there a smarter way to draw tha Path multiple times without having to recalculate all of the Beziers? For example, if I created a ShapeDrawable from PathShape from the Path, and just draw the ShapeDrawable objects every time, would that be more efficient than drawing the Path every time?

Is there a way to draw a circular gradient mask on a bitmap in Android? Trying to produce something similar to a foggy window. Click the window and a transparent circle shows up revealing whats behind the window. Prefferably using a gradient so the center of the circle is completely transparent and the further out from the center the less transparent. Is this possible?

I'm making an Android Java app game (although this question applies to all languages really) and hope to release the first version soon. I'm nervous about how I save data in my game. My problem is that, if in a later update, I decide to store more data or store the same data in a different way, I need to be careful I don't lose or corrupt data for users that upgrade (i.e. I want users to be able to use data created by an old version in the new version, like their high scores from before).For example, say I want to save high scores in version 1.

Can anyone help explain what this does? I did a small search around the internet, and it came up with just about nothing.My first question is: I turned mobile data off, and yet, during the night, I was charged for data, so something leaked.Personally, I thought if this was because of this particular function. But maybe it was something else.So, I turned it off, but around the forums for other androids people seem to think that syncing doesn't work as well with this disabled.Does anybody know what might have happened? And could this function have been the thing that caused the leak.The leak, was actually for only 50 KB or so, but because I'm on Page Plus, it caused me to go under the required balance to refill of $29.95 and caused my plan to lapse. It's important for me for this not to happen again. Can anyone give any tips?

I'm trying to figure out how to draw on a bitmap in android, and keep a copy of these changed bitmaps for an undo function.
Bitmap b = ...
Paint p = new Paint();
canvas.drawBitmap(b, new Matrix(), null);
canvas.drawCircle(0,0,20,20);
//does Bitmap b have the circle drawn on it next time?
Or how do I get the bitmap after its been drawn on with the canvas(I want to preserve a stack of bitmaps with the changes applied by canvas drawing)? Maybe I'm going about this entirely wrong.
