Android :: Free Trial And Payed Apps / How To Switch From

Jul 28, 2010

I have published a free trial application on Android market.

Since there is a protection method now (LVL) I want to upload also the full version of that application. Unfortunantly when I try to upload the full version on the market it tell me that there is just another software with the same package name and to update that package.

When I update that package it doesn't let me choose to switch from free to payed. How can I do it?

I just pulled it up today and noticed it says it's only a trial version and I have to pay for the full version on the DX...is that true? Why isn't it free on the X??

Samsung Captivate :: Free Location Based WiFi Switch

Jul 24, 2010

For those of you trying to squeeze as much time out of the battery as possible, I came across this nifty program which I don't think has been mentioned yet: AppBrain: Y5 - Battery Saver - Android app on AppBrain Official: Y5 Battery Saver: Home. When you connect to a Wi-Fi network, it uses the GSM base tower identifier (CellID) to determine the location of the Wi-Fi network and stores it in memory. It does not use the GPS. I saved my home network earlier this afternoon and went out, Wi-Fi was turned off while I was out, then after I came home and started using my phone, I was connected again, so it seems to be working so far.

Android :: Switch Apps Without Going To Home

Nov 25, 2009

Have the Eris. One of the things I liked about Nokias was you could download an app that would let you pull up a task/application switcher from any application by holding down a key.the Eris pulls up last six opened apps when you hold down home button, but there should be a way to open one of the various task switcher/kiillers and open apps using a similar method.Cant seem to find that in app store. am i missing something?

HTC 4G : APPs Be There When I Switch To EVO From INC?

I think I know the answer to this, but, I am returning my Incredible for a EVO..When I do this, and download AppBrain, and have it sync my apps, will everything I had downloaded/purchased for the Incredible show up and be available for me to download/install on my EVO?

I assume 2.1 is 2.1, and I should be able to get all the "offiicial" stuff; things like Swype, and others may take awhile to show up for the EVO.

Android :: Free Apps And Security?

Oct 7, 2010

I've migrated over from the iPhone to Android (G2 on T-Mobile) and really like the Android system. However, one thing I've noticed is that there are a lot more fully functioning and useful apps that are free vs. the iPhone, where most apps that are worth a damn cost you at least a dollar or more. Which has me wondering whether there is some sort of tracking or information gathering going on with these free Android apps to "compensate" for giving the program away.

I don't mean to sound cynical but it just doesn't seem logical that there is an army of developers willing to spend time and energy on apps they give away for free.

HTC EVO 4G :: Downloaded Launcher Pro And Switch Pro Apps

Jul 25, 2010

I downloaded launcher pro and switch pro apps. Then I installed a non-market app I got from xda (gallery3d if it matters). After installing that app, launcher pro required a force quit. Now I have my switch pro widget near the bottom of the screen on the home screen. When launcher pro reloaded and put back all my widgets, it looks like it sort of mirrored the switch app on the bottom, behind the dock where the phone and contacts buttons are. It's sort of half on and half off the screen. I can't long press on it, or interact with it in any way. I have tried reloading the switch pro widget, but that doesn't do anything. I have also tried restarting launcher pro, which also has no effect. Rebooting the phone also does not solve. Weird, huh? What do you all think?

Does anyone have a somewhat secure method of expiring a trial version of an app a certain amount of time after an install? I do not want to use a server, because I am making a game that shouldn't need permissions. I would like the expiration data to survive an uninstall, but I am ok if it doesn't survive a manual edit of the database. Do an application's database entries get deleted when an app is uninstalled? How about preferences? Local files? Other methods?

Android :: Ability To Quit An App After Trial Period

Jun 10, 2009

I am planning to release a trial version of my app and am looking into best ways to implement the logic. My lite version of the app would have all the features but will be time restricted. I see a couple of issues:

- Currently there is no mechanism built into android that allows an app to be closed. I see that you can close the main acitivity, but the user can always press the back button and go back into the app.

- After trial period, the user can always un-install the app and re- install it. What do I do to prevent this from happening?

If yes, then the next question is can one app uninstall another with the same key, if the user gives the go ahead? In my case, the app has a listener for some events, and I don't want the trial AND the full copy both firing up on those events.
