View 5 Replies View RelatedDo the adds in free apps drain your battery? How do they work. Are they always connected to online? Well, i dont have any problems with the apps on my phone because they dont even show up. Does that drain my battery even more? I have a rooted phone and in all my apps that have ads only show some white circle showing that something is loading but no ads show. My battery only lasts 8-12 hours of use. And it sucks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have a personal (HTC Touch Pro) and business phone (iPhone). With Sprint now offering unlimited any-mobile (freeing up 1300+ minutes a month on my family plan) and Google Voice allowing me to get a separate business number, I'm thinking about dropping my iPhone, and replacing the HTC with either a BlackBerry Tour or a Hero. I work in project management; I know that the BB does have applications that would be useful to me (as does the iPhone), but I can't find comparable apps for Android. As a personal phone though, I would rather have the Hero. Given that I've only been able to spend a limited amount of time browsing the Android Market in a Sprint store, I was hoping someone here might know of some good replacements for my "must have" apps.
1) PIM / Task management. I have a lot of tasks, meetings, and deadlines to manage. I need something similar to the functionality provided by Outlook. I currently use Pocket Informant on the iPhone, which allows me to view multiple calandars, see my schedule from the month-level view, and integrate my to-do lists. I can also assign calander events and to-do tasks to projects, give them priority, provide extra notes, add multiple reminders, etc.. I could probably live with the Android's calander, but I definately need a good to-do app.
2) Time tracking. I have an app on the iPhone (TimeLogger) that lets me track how much time I spend on projects for clients. The one I currently use allows me to start a timer and then come back later to stop it, which is helpful but not a must.
3) Personal finance manager. I track all of my purchases, have several accounts / cards, and need to be able to track/filter business vs personal purchases.
Searched the forum for an existing thread, and couldn't believe there wasn't one on this subject! I didn't expect the battery life to be great, but it's worse than I'd hoped,Obviously, setting the screen brightness to minimum is one way. I've also tried to see if you can 'turn off' applications which may be running in the background, but can't find a way to do this. My previous Nokias allowed you to see what programs were running, and you could turn them off to save battery power. I know a selling point of the Hero is that you can switch to applications quickly without 'loading them up', but is this killing the battery?

View 24 Replies View RelatedIs there any way I can make my android behave like iphone does with apps and processes when I'm noy using them?On ios 6 and previous (in ios7 it is optional) background app processing is disabled, so battery when not using the phone isn't almost wasted.I don't really need that full multitasking android provides, but I do need better battery life.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI saw a nice calendar on one of the threads showcasing the diff screen people have. What are the best calendar apps out there, anybody?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo this morning I successfully rooted, and upgraded to 2.2.
EXTREMELY happy with the speed, and general changes with my Desire now.
However.........
I used to use Pure Calendar, and Pure Grid Calendar pre root, but now they can't see my Google Calendars. Or any calendars for that matter.
The wierd thing is the STOCK Calendar, can, and is syncing just fine with my Google Calendars.
I just wanted to know if there were any free weather APIs available for commercial use without any issue of license or open-source or etc.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI thought I had read on here that The Weather Channel App is free, but it looks like there's a monthly subscription. Does anyone know of a free weather app?

View 6 Replies View Relatedwhy does weather bug show up advanced task killer even inside the 6 hour time frame I set up for it to update. Wondering If I use the weather bug short cut on my home screen and not the WB widget will that stop it from ever opening/updating unless I open it by tapping the shortcut icon.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLooking for ideas. Since this is fairly new to me, I like to have several styles to play around with and didn't want to purchase Beautiful widgets or something similar just yet.
View 22 Replies View RelatedHey guys this is my first post, so don't get upset, I am new. But anyway my question is this: what is the best way to get all paid apps for free? I hope I can do it straight off my android device, in my case the Motorola Droid.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've migrated over from the iPhone to Android (G2 on T-Mobile) and really like the Android system. However, one thing I've noticed is that there are a lot more fully functioning and useful apps that are free vs. the iPhone, where most apps that are worth a damn cost you at least a dollar or more. Which has me wondering whether there is some sort of tracking or information gathering going on with these free Android apps to "compensate" for giving the program away.
I don't mean to sound cynical but it just doesn't seem logical that there is an army of developers willing to spend time and energy on apps they give away for free.
Many times when I look at different weather apps, the current temp is always either the low or the high. Never seen this on a news or weather channel.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo here's the thing, my battery life before the update was incredible (20 + hours.) I received the update, and now by battery barely lasts 11 hours with little to no use at all. What's going on? Will Verizon give me a free new battery if I argue in the case of a defect?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWas doing fine until rain was coming, then battery dropped big time. Charged last night before bedtime, didn't use my phone all day and checked a little bit ago and was down to 50%. Normally I'd be at 80-90% under similar circumstances.
Here's the confusing part (Battery use):
42m 36s since unplugged.
Display: 67%
Cell standby: 26%
Phone idle: 8%
EDIT: BTW, this is LIVE weather.
i look in spare parts and i go under battery history and click on network usage and i see that the weather channel is taking up alot of battery. I dont have the weather channel widgit or just the icon on any of my home pages and i dont have any location for it. Why is it still taking up so much battery? Also is there a way to change the update time with it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am so worried about my battery, nothing is wrong with it i just worry a lot. I am afraid to use my phone outside when it's warm or hot because i am afraid that it'll damage my battery. Will warm or hot weather damage my battery? Should i worry about using it outside?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I got a replacement for my Milestone yesterday, I logged to my google account, went to the Market->Downloads, and I only found my purchased apps nothing of my free apps.I did a backup applications with astro on my old phone, then restore apps on the new one, but that doesn't give access to the updates. Is there a way to find my free apps list, or I have to search for them one by one in the market?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have come across several sites that advertise that you can spend $9.99 a year and get all the apps that are on android market for free. How legit are these sites. The site that I keep coming across is url removed I have come across others, but I can't think of their names. Does anyone use this route to get apps? If so which sites do you recommend to use.
View 10 Replies View RelatedOn the iPhone, if I use my husband's iTunes account, then I can get the apps he's already purchased for free. Does the same work on the Droid? Does he need to use my google checkout account then? Or do you have to pay per phone?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI got my hands on a Sprint Samsung Moment couple of days ago and already am missing my little HTC Touch Vogue(Customized with Windows Mobile 6.5). I was always flashing all kinds of custom ROMs into the Vogue and realize it's not that easy on these android phones. Anyway, I would like to know if there are android apps that will display the Flip clock with the weather and also if there are widgets or apps which will display the email, text message and missed call count on the desktop. I don't care for the notification bar so much.
On another note, I am using K-9 Mail for email but now I get notification from both the stock email client as well as K-9. How does one make K-9 the default? The latest version of K-9 has taken out the Email frequency check from the settings so I'm not sure hot to set the interval for email check.
Looking for a way to take screenshots with a ppc mac and i cant get the android apk to work on my older powerbook. (its not supported through google) also looking for any weather radar widgets preferably a scrollable widget, if one exists, working with launcher pro launcher.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAll I really want to do is root my phone to allow free wifi tethering so I don't have to pay sprint another $30 a month, be able to control my CPU so I can try to help my battery a bit.... and whatever else I can do to help the battery.
What is my best choice for rooting to get what I want? And also, do I need to install a ROM to get this.
I know I need a wireless tether app for rooted phones, the setcpu app for my cpu control.
