I have an app which stores some files on the SD Card. After several uninstall and install, sometimes, the files just got deleted. Is that normal for android os to do that? What should I do to make sure that those files won't be deleted automatically?

I got sony xperia P suddenly i lost all files stored in memory card (photos,videos,etc,,,,) name for application to restore lost files. My device is not rooted and i don't want to root it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an application which resides on the phone memory but downloads large data to the SD card on first launch (the app needs to be able to work without an internet connection most of the time) When using the recommend directory given in Froyo it seems all files on the SD card are deleted when I install a newer version of the .apk. I'd preferably like the files removed on uninstall, but not on upgrade since the files on the SD card aren't going to change between application versions, and forcing the user to re-download a large file that is independent of the application version does not seem reasonable. At the moment it seems I'm forced to use a different directory to the recommended one in order to stop Froyo deleting all the files when the application is upgraded. Am I doing something wrong, or is this how it is supposed to work (I'm guessing it is)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using an 8gig card for a while, but in order to watch a few movies over the weekend (going to my parents) I stuck a few .mtk files on the 4 gig card that came with the phone, the object being to transfer to the laptop once I got to my parents. unfortunately the phone wont boot with the 4gb card inserted, just trying the 8gig one again now.

The idiot part comes from me getting all gitty about the 2.1 v3 update, not thinking about the pictures and videos that I didn't back up (my music and ROMs already were backed up) and deleting my SD card purposely to get rid of all the old, unneccesary files and folders. Anyways, is there anyway to get these old files back? I've seen another post about a file recovery program but it wasn't very specific.

all pre-installed folders that were on there are all gone.
I created a SQLite database on Android device. The program can read/write to database so the database file has obviously been created. The SQLiteDatabase.mPath is set to
db.mPath = "/data/data/dev.client.android/databases/clientDB.db"
but when I browse the directories on the device I can't locate the file clientDB.db. I looked inside data directory but it appears to be empty.Does anyone know what could be wrong here?
I'm wondering where files that are created while running in a simulator are stored. I'm running the 1.5 simulator on Windows Vista. The real reason I want to find the files is because I am downloading an png file and trying to create a bitmap via:
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(iconFile.getAbsolutePath());
However, the bitmap is always null. I am able to create a bitmap successfully if I have the file as a resource.
I want to show the list of media files (.mp3, .mp4...etc) available in sdcard. How can I do this?

However, thus far, I have received NO PROMPTS when installing anything (apps, pictures, etc) regarding where I would like things to go. Also, I just pulled up "SD Card and Phone Storage" on my device and it says "SD Card- Total Space 1.86GB, Available Space - 1.86GB" (clearly nothing there!)
Why am I never getting prompted with an option to store things (like photos I transfer from my Desktop) to the SC card?

I have rather annoying SD Card saving question: How do i know if a number is stored on my SD Card? I only ask because i recently got my Droid replaced No worries, nothing really wrong happened to it, just the power on/off button got like stuck, it worked fine just had to push it down kinda weird, anyhow took it in to get looked at and my friend was ill just replace it and get a new one ! he works verizon, so got a new droid ! Anyways, i figured all my numbers were stored on the SD Card, but lo and behold i lost about 2-5 numbers, but the weird thing was, it saved like the name and profile, even the email, but not the number?? So i was wondering if i could see or find out which numbers were stored on the SD Card and which on the phone?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to recover deleted files from my Android Tablet internal storage folder ( /mnt/sdcard ). This is mounted like a fuse filesystem. I've run Hexamob Recovery PRO from Android Market in my smartphone and it recovered very good some deleted files from my vfat storage folders (both internal and external sd card).
But the smartphone version is not running correctly in my Motorola Xoom because it don't detect internal storage (fuse). I asked to developers about a tablet version and they said me they are working in a tablet version but fuse file system is very hard to manage. I'm looking for an app that will allow me to view photos stored on my computer. I can access the computers on my home network from my Incredible using Astro or ES File Explorer "LAN" and open various file formats such as .pdf, .doc, .xls fine on my Droid; however, I am unable to open and view any type of image files (.jpg, .bmp, .gif, etc.) unless they are stored on my SD card or in the Droid memory itself.
When I try to open a image file stored outside the Droid, nothing appears on the Droid screen. I have installed several "image viewer" apps, such as Astro and 3D Gallery, none of which seem to be able to open remotely stored files. When I "click" on an image file, I see "Loading Image", but all that appears is a black screen with left and right arrow scroll buttons -- no pictures. Any advice, other than to copy and paste image files to my SD card, which then allows me to open and view them? I did get the 2.2 update.

I accidentally discovered that Offline Speech Recognition seems to have been bundled with Google Search somehow because if Google Search is disabled, so is Speech Recognition and looking at Google Search in Application Manager, one can notice that the data storage is proportional to the size of the downloaded language files, but so far have been unable to locate where on the device these files are stored, so that they don't need to be downloaded again.
I wrote an app that downloads web sites and all their assets (images/stylesheets) to "disk" and therefore stores lots of small files on the SD card.
Sometimes it fails to delete large amounts of files and afterward the file system is r/o. To analyze that behavior I tried to do the removal of the files by hand and then go from there. But that already failed.

There were 6.500 files in that directory. Might that be the problem? I don't access the files with queries, I always have the exact name.
Has anyone else noticed that in the FroYo ROMS, the entire app is not stored on the SD card? If I click on the SD card tab under 'manage applications' and look at a certain app (Astro, eg.), it only shows that 1.5mb is stored on the SD card. I know for certain that Astro is around 3.5mb. I've experienced this with every FroYo ROM I've had.
