HTC Incredible :: Phone Screen Not Wake Up For Email / Text Notifications
Apr 30, 2010When the INC is sleeping I can feel the vibrate or hear the notification sound, however, it won't wake up or let me know that I have something waiting for me just by glancing at it from a distance if it's sleeping. This isn't an issue if I am in a quiet environment, but otherwise it is. I have checked all the settings and there doesn't seem to be a way to make this happen.

For example, when the phone senses acceleration, it sends a message from youdroppedme@gmail.com to the user's gmail account.
I would prefer to use the core API, if possible. I am also considering using a web server as a go between. What is the most elegant solution?

Oct 13, 2010I was a longtime BB user and despite pressure to go iPhone decided that open source was for me. I'm not a tech and not particularly patient configuring new kit so am asking for some quick pointers to apps, etc. I have looked myself but maybe I'm being a klutz or maybe just looking in the wrong place. 1. Auto off/on. How do I get my Nexus One to switch off as per a configurable schedule? 2. I don't want an alert for email (using gmail) but I do want an alert for SMSs. Is there the equivalent of a profile app to adjust sounds for this? My Nexus One is either both on or both off. Neither do I want the trackball to blink for email arrival but this isn't so important. 3. Auto spell-check in multi language (English and Spanish). Does such an app exist? 4. In email/SMS make the first letter a CAP?

Sep 2, 2010I know it's a standing issue with the androids not receiving email notifications from the regular email app but is there an APP that will just notify me of email? Doesn't have to view it or anything just alert me as I am satisfied with the original email app. I've tried K-9 and it closes unexpectedly all the time and I find it unreliable with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S). I've also tried Maildroid which I wasn't too impressed with.

Nov 24, 2009For historical reasons (from when I had a LG VX-6000 before I upgraded to a smart phone), I have several email notifications that are sent to my phone by way of <my number>@vtext.com. This is the Verizon email-to-SMS gateway that has been around forever.
The default 'Messaging' app is smart enough to extract the email address from these messages and look it up in my Contacts list, so it shows up as from the proper contact.
I have been looking for an app to alert me with a different tone depending on who sent me the message. I have tried 'Missed Call' and 'Ringo'. Both will let me assign an alert tone to a contact, but when one of these SMS messages is received, both 'Missed Call' and 'Ringo' show the message as from '6245' (which is 'MAIL' transposed with a telephone keypad). As a result, it won't look up the proper alert tone because it won't extract the sender's email address.
Is there a better solution? I could have these messages sent to my Gmail instead, but the Gmail app won't play different tones depending on the sender.

Jan 8, 2014I have a specific problem that has persisted through multiple android devices, through all ROMs and builds. Currently I am on a Verizon galaxy nexus with cyanogen 10.1 (background in case it's more relevant than I believe).
When a timer or alarm goes off on my device, or when I receive a call or text, my screen wakes automatically. I think this may be considered a "feature" in android. However, since my phone is nearly always in my pocket, it means that the screen turns on and often receives enough of a false signal in my pocket to disable an alarm or decline/accept a call. It is very inconvenient and would be alleviated if I could specify that I want my device to turn on the screen ONLY when I press the power button.
I know that others have the same problem from searches on xda and elsewhere, but I don't see solutions (except what looks like a registry hack on some specific devices)
How to get a cover to stop screen interactions while in my pocket, nor do I want to hear about a more elaborate lock screen to keep said interactions from interfering with alarms/calls. The problem is simply that the screen comes on at all with seemingly no way to change the behavior.

Ever since i updated the software, two weeks ago, my phone keeps telling me that I have a new email (outlook) even though I don't! The phone vibrates as if I actually get a new email, but then it turns out that one of the already read emails suddenly is unread and "new". This happens every 10 minutes, so it's super frustrating. I am not using any specific app, just the one email-app that came with the phone.

Sep 13, 2010I switched to a Droid X from a BlackBerry. On the BlackBerry, not only could you set phone and SMS custom alerts and ringtones (in addition to custom ring profiles for certain contacts), you could also set email alerts.
So for example, if my husband emailed me, it would ring a custom alert for his email, not just for an email to that particular account. That meant I didn't need to look at my phone every time got an email to see who it was from. (I have a web-based business and I get literally hundreds of emails every day.)
On the BlackBerry, not only were there custom inboxes for each email account, there was a "universal" inbox. There doesn't seem to be a function exactly like that for the Android (I tried adding my Gmail accounts to the one there, but it keeps defaulting me back to each Gmail box).
Is there an app for this?
I have Ringo Pro for my custom sms and call alerts, but an email alert would be a lifesaver. There are a lot of BB converts to Android (and I'm sure more to come) who would gladly pay for an app to handle this. So far, it's the only thing I can see where the Droid X doesn't beat the BB.
Samsung Moment :: 100 % Wake - Screen Not On
Dec 15, 2009Seems like all of a sudden my Moment never sleeps. I can press the red end call button to put it to sleep, but when I turn it back on after a few minutes or even an hour or so later, when I check spare parts it says under battery history 100% running. The screen is not on and shows a small % and since this started the battery life has gotten horrible again. The only thing I see that is running when I look at partial partial wake usage is android system and it is showing the full bar in blue. Does anyone have any idea what can be causing this problem. When I had advanced task manager installed it showed many things running in the background like music, system update, messages ect ect ect and these programs were never opened by me. I thought maybe this was the program that was running all the time because after I uninstalled it the phone started sleeping. But now it is back to staying awake 100% of the time. Any help would be appriciated.

Jun 24, 2010Need some help with phone locking behavior, good peoples. here's what i'd like to end up with:
1. always wake based on volume OR power button
2. when on phone - no locking at all, (additionally wake based on orientation like is done currently)
3. some sort of "lock phone" widget on home screen for manual lock
4. auto-lock timer set to say...5 minutes (longer than sleep timer)
5. sleep/screen-off timer set to 30 seconds
6. disable the slide lock (sense UI?) and only use the pattern lock. why do i have to power button wake, slide unlock, then pattern unlock my phone after it goes to sleep after 30 seconds, it's ridiculous! i want to pick it up press a volume key and put my pattern in - after 5 minutes. before 5 minutes i want to just pick it up and wake it unless it was manually locked.
I'll root it if that's what it takes. this is pissing me off daily.
HTC Incredible :: Screen Won't Wake - When I Want To Hang Up
Sep 1, 2010I have the HTC Incredible. Sometimes when I want to hang up a call I can't get my screen to wake. Does it really sleep in the middle of a call? I feel like I should just be able to touch it and it should give me the hang up option.
Sometimes it responds nicely by lighting back up when I tilt the phone away from my ear and then I can press the hang up button, but other times I have the problem that I just described.

Sep 20, 20091) I can press a button to 'wake' up the phone to the lock screen, but I may have to press a button 2 or 3 times to wake the phone up. it seems like it's not waking up correctly and on the first button press.
2) Twitter and other notifications 'sometimes' dont happen until I unlock the screen...this COULD be coincidence, but I thought I would throw it out for people.
3) I didnt get a voicemail given on Friday until today, which appeared as a result of me switching off my phone and switching it back on. has anyone else heard of this???
4) I cant figure out a way to stop apps from starting on bootup, such as peep? I use twidroid, so dont need two apps running of the same ilk?? Any help here?

HTC Hero :: Blank Screen Not Wake Up / Locking Up
Dec 5, 2009I own a hero on orange with the latest orange firmware. Over the past couple of days I've been having a few problems, mainly with my messengers from what I can see. Sometimes when using ebuddy or meebo, my phone's screen will go to standby (blank) as normal but will not wake up or do any functions. I have to take the battery out of the phone and reboot. I tried re-flashing the firmware just incase but it still does it. I'm trying out hi msn to see if that is any better. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and also does it sound like a firmware issue?
