Jun 2, 2009I am trying to play mp4 video file from mediaplayer demo given in the api demos along with android sdk.I changed the path to /sdcard/video.mp4.If i run mediaplayer_video demo, the audio output is coming, but no video is being displayed, the screen is black.when i seen the logcat,it reports, surfaceCreated called and surfaceChanged called.

But the problem i m facing is when i change the orientation, the previous playback disappears (if was playing) and the new surface view is getting created ..but the callback method surface created is not getting called in which i want to take further action.

Oct 10, 2013I just switched from WebOS so I'm quite a noob to Android. Anyways, I bought a new Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.4.
Now to my issue: I like to watch video streams. The problem is, that the display will turn automatically off.
Solutions:
1. Play a stream with a video player - how can I do this?
2. Change settings so the display will not switch off on a stream, but will turn off when idle - is this even possible?
3. Turn off "turn off display when idle" setting - but I don't like this one.

Sep 29, 2010I have an issue with displaying videos on android devices.When any video is displayed it does not take the entire screen size of device even though i have given android:layout_width="fill_parent".There will being some blank space on either sides.for eg.if i have a video of 480 by 320 it will work on 480 by 320 device fine but on a device like say Nexus one it wont take the entire display of device ,there will be some blanl spaces on two sides. Is this a default feature of android devices or is there a solution to resolve this ?Why does not the "fill_parent" attribute work?

Jul 22, 2010I was trying to use VideoView to play a Video from the SD card, but the only thing working properly is its audio, while I see the first frame of the video which doesn't play on and after a few seconds the Error message "Cannot play video - Sorry, this video cannot be played" appears. Nov 20, 2010I am doing a video based course, and what is infuriating about playing video on my Android is that you have to watch each segment (up to 40 minutes) in one go, as the next time you play the clip it will restart and fast forward does not work (it forwards for less than a second and then jerks back). What would be really handy would be if I could put a bookmark every time I have to stop the video file (such as when I have to get off my train), and return to the same place the next time I open it. Is there any app that can do this? I will pay for one that works.

Dec 3, 2012I am using the Alcatel OT-918d (stock rom, root access enabled) and while playing videos in the browser, I do not get an action prompt to choose from the available video players and browser plays the video using "default video player".
The so called "default video player" has been uninstalled though. Have cleared cache, clear defaults, clear data for the browser but still do not get a prompt to choose a video player while playing videos from the browser.
Also installed the "Default App Manager" to check for the default video player. However, it indicates no defaults to play any videos (either from file or streaming videos).
(If I play a stored video from phone or SD card, I do get the prompt to choose a video player. But do not get a prompt if playing any video in the browser.)
