Samsung Galaxy S :: Newbie - What Are Your Favorite Apps?

Sep 10, 2010

Well, I'm a soon-to-be Galaxy S Captivate owner, and I've been reading and watching practically everything I can find about the phone every single day. I even check this forum every three hours or so!I've finally ran out of video reviews and 9-page written and 10 minute video reviews to read and watch. I'm an Android virgin, so I want to know exactly I'll do the moment I turn on my device and get a chance to play with it the first time!
I've gotten some really great ideas of what I'm going to get already from Lifehacker, but what I want to know is what your guys' opinion, pro Galaxy S owners. What are your favorite apps? Discuss! <3(Yes, one-click lag fix will be my first download )

Android :: Reflective / Difficult To Read Under Bright Sunlight

Jul 21, 2010

I have an HTC Desire (that is a Droid Incredible to Verizon people in the US). I like the 3.7" 480x800 AMOLED screen but it is too reflective and difficult to read under bright sunlight. Also the pentile pixel arrangement means that very small text is a bit blurry.
My Dad has the Samsung Galaxy S which has a 4" 480x800 Super AMOLED screen. It is very beautiful, very bright, not too reflective.
As far as Android phones go the following have the best screen:
HTC EVO - 4.3" 480x800 TFT (stolen from the HTC HD2).
Sony Experia 10 - 4.0" 480x800 TFT
Samsung Galaxy S - 4.0" 480x800 Super AMOLED
Nexus One/HTC Desire/HTC Droid Incredible - 3.7" 480x800 AMOLED. Anyone my question is what is the perfect screen for an android touchscreen phone?
1. What size?
2. What resolution?
3. What technology, TFT, Super AMOLED etc?
4. As for those who care capacitive or resistive? I expect 80% or 90% want capacitive. As people know the iphone 4 has a res of 640x960 but they have crippled the size at 3.5" (as a tactic to get people to also buy an ipad no doubt). I used to own a Nokia internet tablet 770. It had a 4.1" 480x800 resistive screen. The same with the Toshiba TG01. I think 4.1" is the perfect size. Something like 600x900 resolution. And either a TFT IPS or a RGB Super AMOLED capacitive.

Samsung I7500 :: Difficult Market Downloads?

Mar 10, 2010

I seem to have a bit of difficulty with the market (ever since using Market Enabler). All the apps I choose to download just sit at "Starting Download" until I turn wifi off and on and reconnect to my network. Has anyone else experienced this?I've tried switching fake carriers a few times, which I seem to need to do anyway, cuz paid apps seem to disappear after a while.

HTC Desire :: Finding It Difficult To Sync My I-Tunes

Sep 16, 2010

Trying to sync my i-tunes from my desktop using sync 3.Wouldn't recognise nearly any of my itunes (nearly 1600 songs) and would only sync 30 odd.Occasionally sync would identify there was 8GB of data to sync for music, but would seem to hang on certain songs and then disconnect with a 'Sync failed' notification. I've added a 16gb micro card & formatted it.After much fiddling & whatif analysis, I ended up selecting the songs directly from my 'C' drive.Painfully slow nearly 600 songs added, but nearly cooked the phone in the process eventually got a fail message on the desktop system tray.I abandoned it after that, when I have the inclination, maybe just select an album at a time to stop the phone overheating labour intensive again.

HTC Eris :: How Difficult Changing ROMs Or Unrooting?

Nov 14, 2010

I'm seriously contemplating rooting my phone. I want to change my phone basically, and try out a few ROMs. I just need to know how computer savvy I have to be to install ROMs, how long it takes roughly, and how difficult changing roms or unrooting if I want to is. Also, I want to try a Froyo rom. Whats the best one out there? I tried looking through the roms threads and can only find screenshots on a couple, so if you guys could post a link to a site with them or post yours that would be cool. I would like something that has the Sense widgets, mainly the calendar, music, and clock/weather widgets with the animations.

I know there are widget apps out there but I don't feel like paying just yet when I'm not sure if I want to stay rooted or not. For the rom suggestions I basically want what the battery life is, speed, and the amount of bugs or problems you guys have had. I know I can search the threads to find the other questions I have, and with your suggestions I will, but I'll be basing those searches off your suggestions. Say I root but I don't like any of the roms out there, I don't have to install a rom to stay rooted, right? I would basically wanna just overclock it and remove a couple apps to possibly speed up my phone. I try not to sound like that, but with rooting I really just don't wanna screw up my phone.

HTC Desire :: Music Setup - Album Folder Difficult To Deal

May 5, 2010

Generally music setup is good, much better than on the Blackberry. However, when I go into the album folder all the songs show up from that album as individual albums; on some of them when I click, it will show about 3 songs, others 1 etc. Also, showing 3 of the same song, not sure how that occurred but can probably fix that.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Will Zagg's InvisibleSHIELD Make Using Touch Screen More Difficult?

Jun 11, 2010

I had an InvisibleSHIELD for my old Blackberry and I loved it for its durability. I was thinking about putting one on my new Sprint HTC Hero, but I remember it having kind of a tacky, gummy, sticky feel to it...kind of resistant to sliding your finger over it smoothly. That doesn't matter to me whatsoever when I'm not using a touch screen, but has anyone used one on a Hero? I don't want to buy one and find out it makes my phone harder to use.Specifically, I've just gotten pretty good at using SlideIT (wish I could try Swype), and I have a feeling that with an InvisibleSHIELD it will be much harder to accurately move my finger to the right spots on the screen at the right times. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Samsung Vibrant :: Blue-Green Hue Of White Makes Browser Difficult

Jul 19, 2010

One of the first things I've noticed about the Samsung (coming from the iphone) is how blue-greenish the background is within the browser. The difference is striking when the iphone is side to side with the Vibrant. It makes the reading mobile pages such as m.cnn.com a whole lot more difficult, relatively speaking.Anyone else notice this? I've also taken notice of this on a friend's Droid, although not as pronounced. Is this common to Android devices? I would think that the Vibrant screen could deliver a bright white with no color imbalances and should surpass the quality on the 3G(S) iphone.

How To Create Android Apps

Oct 30, 2011

how to create Android apps so I recently installed Eclipse and Android SDK. I made a new AVD (2.3.3) and everything worked fine for a while but now I get the following error messages when I try to run my application (which is a simple "Hello World" program):

Code:
Emulator] NAND: nand_dev_load_disk_state, restore failed: size required (3546398242485400641) exceeds device limit (69206016)

Emulator] Unknown savevm section type 114

HelloTest] emulator-5554 disconnected! Cancelling 'ema.test.HelloTestActivity activity launch'!

I have also tried deleting the AVD from the AVD manager but it says the emulator is running and therefore unable to delete it.

These problems persists even though I've restarted my computer several times.

I'm on Ubuntu 11.04

Android :: Newbie / Upload Photos From HTC Incredible To PC?

May 3, 2010

I've taken several photos on my HTC Incredible and want to upload them to my PC. I tried using the Hard drive function but when I look in the file manager on my PC desktop, I don't see any folders containing the photos I just took. They're in the phone, honest, just can't upload them. How do I do it? I even downloaded a file manager (Astro?) from the droid store but it had dozens and dozens of folders and I have no clue. The manual says photos I take are stored on the sim card so I even tried taking that out, putting it into the SanDisk adapter and plugged that into a multiple card reader and still couldn't find the photos. Where the hell are they?

HTC Desire :: Tips For A Newbie To Android / Whats Os For Rooting - Roms Etc

Aug 28, 2010

I'm soon to be getting my first android phone, htc desire on t-mobile UK (so from what ive heard it will be branded), i will be rooting it and ideally a custom rom. im happy with the rooting process (done quite a bit of modding with consoles), im just at a loss with custom roms for it at the minute, if anyone could suggest one that would suit my needs it would be awesome.

Im after a fairly similar to stock, idealy 2.2, but with some performance tweaks, im after:
-HTC sense
-a2sd
-the ability to overclock (and ideally auto underclock settings when in sleep mode)
- battery performance tweak

and also what is the difference in omoled vs slcd screens when it comes to custom roms and rooting, and also just generally in day to day use? are there any differences in quality, display etc?

and also whats the best os for rooting, roms etc? i mainly use a mac but also have xp, vista, 7 and linux. i understand theres no software currently for mac? and id rather stay away from 7 if at all possible (my copys not that stable) all help would be greatly appreciated, and i hope this is in the right forum

HTC EVO 4G :: Newbie / Way To Turn Screen Back On?

Jun 17, 2010

I'm a former Palm Pre user who recently purchased a Sprint Evo. Although I miss the hard keyboard, I'm learning to use swype. I have a newbie question. Is there anyway to turn the screen back on, once it has turned off, other than pressing the on button. On my Pre, all I had to do was slide the keyboard to turn the screen back on. The Evo's power button is difficult to press, especially using the phone with one hand. Looking forward to any answers. Maybe there is a program that will turn the screen back on when I shake the phone?
