View 2 RepliesAndroid 2.1 I am having a text box in the the web view where only numeric input is require but when the soft keypad pops up, it shows the full qwerty keypad. As we know that few tags of HTML 5 is supported in android 2.1 and this also can be achieved by putting some java script in the web page but that is making the user experience very bad. Is there any way to show only numeric keypad or is there any way to grab the event where whenever any text box is focused so that I can set its IME and CLASS as defined in Editor Info.

I have a login screen with a edit text password field. In landscape mode, when i try to enter anything into the field, the view kinda zooms into the field with the virtual keyboard on the bottom, and anything i type is visible as plain text; now if i were to hit the back button, it will zoom out and display the entire activity but the text in the field is hidden.
I have tried setting android:password="true", it works only in portrait and when in the zoomed in state.. thats no help android:inputType="textPassword" this by itself is useless.
I want to replace the default virtual/soft keyboard with a numeric keypad (with big keys) to simplify number entry. Anyone has any such experiences or knows any guide/tutorial about this?

How to implement this .
I use the following code to pop up the soft input keyboard in my Activity
InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager) getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); imm.getInputMethodList(); imm.toggleSoftInput(InputMethodManager.SHOW_FORCED, 0); This displays the alphabetic keyboard. But I want to display the numeric keyboard. Please note I know that using setInputType() works when used with an Edittext or a TextView but I want to be able to display the keyboard without an input area such as an Edit Text and simply listen to the key presses on the keyboard. Can anyone confirm whether this is possible and if so how can it be achieved?
I am making a math program that reads in numbers from an edit text box, and creates / LU factors a matrix. When a user clicks into this field, the regular keyboard shows. It would be easier for the user if it were a numeric keyboard. When I use android:input Style="number" the amount of numbers allowed to be entered into the field is 1. How do I bring up the numeric keyboard without limiting the ability to enter multiple numbers?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am on Android 2.1 and I have one multi column Custom listview Using BaseAdapter with an editable edittext at the end of the listview. If the data in the listview do not contain the data of user choice then user should be able to enter data. If the data is already there in the list user will be able to select the data using custom selector. If a selection is made in the list view and user wanted to enter data in the text field at the bottom after selection then the marker in the list view should be unselected. I tried to use onclick() method on edit text using click listener. First time when it is clicked, edit text is getting focus and onclick() method is not fired. And when it is clicked second time, onclick() method is fired and notifyDataSetChanged() method is called. I tried to call the notifyDataSetChanged() method from the Focus Listener, list view selection is gone in my first attempt and edit text is not receiving any data input from the keyboard (frozen).

I have an app I am working on that does some math on a few variables and outputs the answer. Well that's the plan anyway. Being a total n00b at Android & Java I am not sure of a couple of things.1) I have created text fields in the layout file for user to enter values. Instead of text fields should I use numerical value fields, if such a thing exists? 2) How can you convert from a text field to a numerical value and back again?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I have an EditText component on my screen that I have specified inputType="decimal" for (i.e. a numeric/decimal field), what is the best way to convert it to an decimal value in the application code?
Google recommends avoiding floats, and avoiding creating objects unnecessarily (and I assume any auto-unboxing code is bad too), so I take these as my constraints. I realize a small application probably doesn't need to worry too much, but I haven't been able to find a 'best-practice' solution to this.
The most common solution appears to be this:
double value = Double.parseDouble(txtInput);
