Android :: Keyboard For Multiple Languages

Jul 6, 2010

i'm pretty happy with the stock keyboard on my HTC DESIRE but i get really annoyed that there is no fast key for switching between the input language. i live in sweden and write often in either swedish or english and would like a keyboard that has a button on it somewhere for fast switching between these two languages.
as it is now, i go into options and select the language which is not so bad to do once a week but its a pain when your switching 10 times a day. and why do reviewers say the android keyboard is no good and always praise the iphone one? is the stock keyboard really that bad? whats a good alternative?

Android : Multiple Activity Instances Launched By Same Intent. Bring One Uniquely To Foreground?

Nov 12, 2010

I'm struggling with my app that launches multiple instances of the same Activity using the same intent. My main activity is of class type A and it does a startActivity() of two children that are of the same class type B. So we have B1 and B2 launched. If B1 and B2 are both paused (by pushing back button and making sure finish() is not invoked on them so they are truly paused), how can A uniquely bring either B1 or B2 to the foreground again? I do want to launch a new B activity. I want to uniquely bring B1 or B2 to the foreground.

so both B1 and B2 were created like this... Intent intent = new Intent(context, B.class); intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); startActivity(intent);

Now I want A to bring B1 (or B2) to the foreground/front so I use the below code, but how do I distinguish B1 or B2 when starting the activity? This only brings the last instance of B that was on top to the foreground.

Intent intent = new Intent(context, B.class); intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_REORDER_TO_FRONT); startActivity(intent);

I've tried keeping around references to B1 and B2 and doing something like this, but this also only goes to the last instance of activity class B that was on top...

Intent intent = new Intent(B1context, B.class); intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_REORDER_TO_FRONT); B1context.startActivity(intent);

I even tried this, but it still doesnt get me my unique B1 or B2... Intent intent = B1.getIntent(); // i.e. the original intent that started me startActivity(intent); // still only brings to front the last B that was on top.

Android :: Application Forces Close When Launched From The Market

Jul 2, 2009

I have uploaded application to market and met weird problem which I never received before - when I click "Open" button when the application is installed I receive error dialog and the application is forced to close. I do not have this problem when start application from desktop launcher panel. I have already receive 2 stars for that though the exception even comes not from my cod - very unpleasant surprize from market app.

Application uses vibration and declares corresponding uses-permission "android.permission.VIBRATE" - this is what the exception tells me about, but I can't see such problem with other apps that use vibration on market.

Here the exception:

CODE:..............

Here is application manifest:

General :: General Voice Search Punctuation With Non-English Languages?

Jan 5, 2013

It seems there is a general voice search / voice recognition issue with non-english languages. The problem is basically that punctuation is written in plain and not recognized. It seems to affect a number of devices (if not all?) running ICS / JB.

So period will write "period" and not "." .
Same for comma that will end in writing "comma" and not ",".
(this of course in each different Language)

This basically makes the voice recognition totally unusable and useless for anything but English. So far, this issue has been reported with the following languages:

French
German
Spanish
Italian

I'm not allowed to post links yet but if you go to Android official project page, in the Issues and search for punctuation, you'll basically see all those.

Android :: Having Multiple Versions Of Same App In Market

Feb 19, 2009

I am planning to have two versions of the same app available in the market - let's say "App-Lite" and "App-Advanced". They both almost the same core functionality, but App-Advanced has a bit more specific features, than the App-Lite has. Now I am thinking what would be the strategy of deploying those two apps in the market. The simple way is to provide different name space in AndroidManifest.xml for both apps, so "App-Lite" and "App-Advanced" would show up as two completely different applications and could be installed parallel on the same device. But I'm also thinking about another way of installing the App-Advanced version - like an upgrade to the App-Lite which might be already installed. To do this, I can just set the same name space for both app in AndroidManifest.xml, so after installing one app would replace the other one - I can do this from adb command line, but I'm not sure how android market would behave in this case. Will it show them as two different apps, will it show them as two different versions of the same app with the ability to upgrade from one version to another, or it just will not allow to publish two apps with the same name space? Is this scenario doable with Android Market?

Android :: Building Multiple App Versions For Market

Feb 18, 2009

We're thinking about building light and paid versions of our app for the Market. But I am not clear what we need to do, or how to do it. (1) Do we definitely need the two versions to have different package names for the two builds ?It seems logical to do it that way, but I have not found a clear answer from Google to that question. Though I have found several people asking the same question. 2) Is there any support in Eclipse for building two similar apps with different package names from the same java and xml files ?In most of the IDEs I've used, it is a doddle to define multiple build targets for one project, but none of those mechanisms seem to be present here. And, the package name is embedded in every java file, as well as in many places in the manifest, leaving me without a tidy way to build to alternate package names.Is there a tidy way to build multiple version ? Or are we really going to end up copying the whole codebase and search-and-replacing the package name.

I recently returned to android. I was hoping this issue with google voice had been worked out, especially as I am about to do a full convert/port to google voice.

So the same contact will text me but often times google voice will create multiple threads making it very annoying to sift through them on the Voice SMS Inbox. It does this also on my browser window. Its not 100% of the time, but almost seems like if its a text on another day, another thread is made. Is there a way to fix this or merge the threads under the same contact?

Android :: Set TTS Languages?

Aug 26, 2010

I am playing with the Android TTS engine. I am trying to set it to speak in Spanish from Mexico, rather than from Spain. I have tried several combination's of language code / country code but I have not been able to get anything by Spanish from Spain. Here is my code currently

loc = new Locale("es", "MEX");
myTts.setLanguage(loc);
say("Hello");

I have also tried ("es","US"), ("es","LA"), ("spa","US"), ("spa","MEX") with every combination that I can think of it is showing me this in the log: TtsEngine::setLanguage found matching language(spa) but not matching country(MEX). loaded es-ES successfully. I can exit my app and open up the TTS Service Extended. If I set the language to either Spanish[es] or Spanish-Latin America. Either way when I hit 'listen to preview' I get "Hola" which is expected. But from my application I get "Heyyo" instead of "Hola". Can anyone see what I am doing incorrectly to set my language?
