Android :: ContactsContract - RawContacts Two Entry Get Inserted For Single Contact

Need some info on ContactsContract.RawContacts<http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/ContactsContr...> :
A row in the ContactsContract.RawContacts<[url] represents a set of data describing a person and associated with a single account (for example, one of the user's Gmail accounts).
I have found two entry for each contact get inserted when I do import contact from SIM card. Why it is so and is it right?
When I am trying to modify entry, compare function from EditContactActivity.java get called. /packages/apps/Contacts/src/com/android/contacts/ui/EditContactActivity.java
In this class in compare function checking accountType which is getting null. Wanted to know with which raw contact this comparison is happening ? and Why it is getting crashed ?

I've been using the ContactsContract api for some time now and I've come across two "columns" listed in the API page for ContactsContract.Contacts that do not appear to actually be assessable.

By my reading of the API these two values would seem to connect to the Structured Name (in DATA) used to construct the display name for the given contact. Having access to this directly from the contact table would be incredibly useful to me at the moment, but as far as I can tell they are not actually in the working api (I've tested against both 2.1 and 2.2).
The associated constants do not exist in the Contacts object, and attempting to access the fields directly (by using the lower case string versions I've seen in code dumps online) turns up with an sql error -- invalid column, as you might expect.
Has anyone had any better luck with accessing these? Are these actually in the API?
I did some more checking and here's some related values from RawContacts that are listed on the API but appear to not actually be in it: DISPLAY_NAME_ALTERNATIVE, DISPLAY_NAME_PRIMARY, DISPLAY_NAME_SOURCE, PHONETIC_NAME, PHONETIC_NAME_STYLE, SORT_KEY_ALTERNATIVE, and SORT_KEY_PRIMARY.
All of these appear to be features not yet in the API that are mistakenly not filtered out when the javadoc was released. If other folks are unable to access these features as well it might be worth filing a bug report over.

I am using ContactsContract api intent for showing all contacts from an activity. This intent returns an id of the contact. I need to get the postal address of this contact.
Here is the code which i am using for showing contacts:
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK);
intent.setType(ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_TYPE);
startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_CONTACT);
I am getting the result in the onActivityResult function..

Is there a way to delete a single entry in your call history without deleting the rest of your call history? I've been going through all the menus but I can't seem to find a way to delete just one number.
Also, I used to own a Palm Treo 650 (Palm OS). With it, you could literally hide single contacts by setting a contact privacy password. This setting was deep in the settings and upon finishing setting it up, you could password lock that menu as well, the title of it and all. So this way, if you hand your phone to a colleague for them to make a quick call, they can't go through your phonebook or recents to try to get your numbers.
I bring this up because a few years ago, this lady I worked with let another co-worker use her phone to make a call and the lady ended up copying a specific number from the woman's recent list without her knowledge. She took the number and harassed the person so much they had to get a restraining order on her. And it was later found out the only way she could have gotten the number is the time she let the woman use her phone.
Call me paranoid but the Treo offered that security feature and I haven't seen it since. Is there any way to do this on the EVO that I just may be missing?
Also, does anyone know of something like a "guest mode" app on the marketplace where the guest can only use what you allow them to and not have access to recents or phonebook, like, just the core function, like sms/mms, net, phone, or calc, etc.

Not sure if this is HTC hero only, but I'm trying to enter my dads birthday in, 17 Sep 1944, but I can't! If I select 18 - 9 -44 then press done, it shows as September 19th 1944?! If I change to 17th is shows September 17th 1944!

Or any other smartphone for that matter. I thought this would be a basic feature. I came from the blackberry where this was simple using blackberry messenger. I could send a contact to my wife and when she received it there was an option to save the contact on her end. Is there an app that will do this?

I set up HTC sync and Facebook and all that jazz. However, there are a few people in my Facebook Contacts list that I don't really want to have in my contacts list.
I don't dislike them to the point where I'd want to un-friend them on facebook, but I don't really want their number to be in my phone.
Does anybody know any way to delete a single facebook contact from your phone? Click and hold doesn't work, going to their "people" tab doesn't work, I can't figure it out...

I don't want to add the Favorite's tool aka People Widget. I want to add a single contact to one of the pages. I had my boyfriend on one, but I wanted to move it to another page, and I accidentally deleted the icon (he's still in my People contact list). But I can't figure out how to add just ONE contact to the desktop.

I have a question about the "People (Contacts) app". Is it possible to have more than one phone number for a single contact? I am assuming so by the way the manual is written. I have tried to follow the instructions on page 34 of the manual "adding a number to an entry in People". Step 2 directions do not exist. "Tap ADD>PHONE". I do not see that as an option. Am I missing something?

After backing up my contacts to google, and synching with it, I now have two entries in my people app for just about every person. It's not a problem in the people app itself, since I have that set to only show google contacts now. The problem is in handcent, as it still shows both entries (phone and google apparently). I've looked in the settings for handcent, but I haven't run across anything for contact lists. Is there any way I can get it to just show one listing per person?

I'm having issues receiving text messages from a single contact.I'm using the Huawei X1 - running Subpsyke's latest rom. I use GoSMS.The thread I speak of has 5522 messages in it - and I am unable to recieve messages. They send fine and I can't get them.
I believe that this may be because of the huge thread size. Is there any way of preserving these messages but creating a second, new thread for the same contact?

adding new contacts in address book and apply them in batch by using new ContactsContract API. I could not find a proper tutorial on this. I am able to add a single contact. But batch update fails with Unknown contacts being added. Currently I am looping through while loop while collecting info. of users to write, store it in the ArrayList and applying and ContentProviderResult[] result = getContentResolver().applyBatch(ContactsContract.AUTHORITY, op_list); But only one contact is updated with name and other are updated as unknown contacts. Please help with a sample code which adds the fields like name,nickname,mobile,title,email,skype id,work-country etc.

The application I have uploaded into my cellular device is shown without the pictures I have insert to it. While the APK runs without problems on emulator when installed on Motorola milestone picture and icon doesn't shown as they were on emulator.
Steps I have done in order to install:
- I have inserted the xxx.apk file into the device via usb
- I downloaded an apps installer via the Market
- I opened the app using the installer and instead of picture an white background appeared
when I opened the xxx.apk file using file system I found the pictures.
Note: even an application icon weren't appearing. Apparently the res library having problem to be bined to application.
- I might need to add something to my appliction manifest?
- I might need to change something on my device ? (I already made a change and enabled user's not Market application).
I also tried an example as shown in hello android book the same example worked perfectly on the emulator where on my android device (Motorola milestone) the picture and icon weren't shown. Please tell me what I might be doing wrong guys I need to apply my project back at uni (I was the only one in uni who did it on android and in my country most of pep don't even know what android is so getting help outside of forum's like this is not an option).

Is it possible to get notified every time a new image,video is inserted on the sd card of your android device and how? I have looked at the Media Scanner class which indexes files but I can't find how to do get notified from that only how to notify Media Scanner of a new image I have created.

This is a rooted Chinese tablet running Android 4.2.2, and I would like to have it boot up automatically when plugged in. Currently, if the tablet is powered off by holding down the power button, it will turn on automatically when plugged into a USB charger. If the device is shut down using the power menu or the reboot -p command, however, it will not turn on when plugged in. It will only display the charging symbol. Running the "adb shell reboot bootloader" command reboots to a black screen.

My x10 has always been saying I have no SIM card inserted even though I do and it works perfectly. My status bar always shows my connections to be changing all the time, going from 5 bars to 1 bar, to no connection then no sim card and all over again. I'm just wondering if it was the updates fault, and do I have to re-update or factory reset the phone. P.S the SIM card message disappears after a phone restart but will come right back once you put it to sleep.

i bought x10 mini in february 2012. after some days i rooted the phone. and after some days it starts auto turn off while sim is inserted. and sometimes it restarts automatically. when charger is connected, there is no problem, but when disconnected, it shuts down immediately. and sometimes it turns off while sim is not inserted but the "on time period" is about 2/3 hours. but when sim is inserted, it turns off immediately just aftrer switched on the phone. and there is a battery draining problem too. sometimes, as example, 90% charge becomes 23% after autorestart. i send it to sony ericsson service centre, but nothing has improved. and now i can see the phone is not rooted.
