Android :: UI Window In Camera Preview Application

Nov 27, 2009

Let's say in my example I am working with SurfaceView for my CameraSurfaceView. I have a few questions, hope you can help me.

1. When this SurfaceView gets created (I assume via final CameraSurfaceView cameraView = new CameraSurfaceView (getApplicationContext()), this will result in a call createSurface() in SurfaceFlinger with format, width and height. Am I correct?
Is this SurfaceView also my UI window if I want to draw anything? I thought if I call setType(PUSH_BUFFER) on this surface, I won't be able to do any drawing on this surface.

2. How does the application pass these information like format, width and height to SurfaceFlinger for the allocation? Is it by using .setFormat, .setFixedSize?

3. How do they methods .setFormat, .setFixedSize related to the surfaceHolder.surfaceChanged() callback?

Android :: Simulate Recent Application Window

Mar 14, 2010

I am wanting to simulate the look of the "recent applications" display that you get when you long press the home key. At first I thought it was a custom dialog but apparently (according to what I see in the Hierarchy viewer) it is a PhoneWindow$DecorView. I presume the DecorView is the main layout for this. According to the docs there is no layout or window named this, so I can not extend from it.

Android :: Closing Old Methods / Activities In Application

Nov 24, 2010

Need help closing/accessing my views in a simple app (included an img of my program layout) but I might have been too confusing. Basically, I have an app that has a main menu where the user can click a button to open a camera. The user then snaps a photo and it is displayed on a page. The user will then click another button that detects faces. If faces are detected, the user is sent to a final page that shows the cropped face, etc. I give the user the ability to return to the main menu or snap a new photo.

Let's say a new photo is snapped and the user does it a few more times. Now I have multiple saved instances of old snapped photos (presented on the layout). How do I kill the previous instance (the layout from before he decided to snap a new photo)? So when I try to close the app it doesn't go back to the previous instance (displayed layout of said snapped photo). I am so confused on this one thing.

Android :: Programmatically Connect To A Bluetooth Headset From An Application

Feb 4, 2010

I am looking for a way to initiate the audio connection between the Android phone and my headset within my application. The idea is to simplify the connection process in such a way that the user doesn't have to go through the different settings menus anymore (Apps -> Settings -> Wireless & Networs -> Bluetooth settings).

Both devices are supposed to be already paired and the Bluetooth address of the headset to be known.

As far as I learned, the Bluetooth capabilities (available since version 2.0 of the Android SDK) are restricted to Bluetooth discovery and the connection of RFComm channels (host/client) between the Android phone and a Bluetooth device. Is there another way to request Bluetooth profiles on the Android system to initiate a connection to a known device from an app or is this impossible?

There is no option to close an application. I read that android closes the applications as and when more memory is required. So there is no chance one can close an application manually? 2. The phone only imports the picture and birthday into the contacts. Is there a chance I can import the email address and the telephone number? I require that more than the birthday info. 3. The WiFi signal seems to be very bad. Not sure if it'd an issue only with me. The location where I have full signal in my laptop and my Nokia N82, I only have one bar of signal in my HTC hero.

CODE:.................

I'm creating it by calling showDialog with the display's id. The onCreateDialog handler logs fine and I can step through it without an issue, but I've attached it since it seems like I'm missing something:

CODE:............

Is there something missing from this? Some questions have talked about having this problem when creating a dialog from onCreate, which happen because the activity isn't created yet, but this is coming from a call from a menu object, and the appContext variable seems like it is correctly populated in the debugger.
